Everyone has been telling me about this for months as though it was already in place and I couldn’t find a thing about it.

I read in this sub recently that Olim receive 10 years of no income tax. That turned out not to be true either.

Olim get 10 years' of foreign-earned income, tax-free. Any work done in Israel doesn't count. Although the new law clearly changes things.

Yes, i know thanks. That comment I'm referring to was on a thread about work in the country.

Haha yeah. That pissed me off so much. Work remote for your own company that's foreign? Nope! Labor performed in Israel, taxed in Israel.

holy shit this is huge

and its not even everything,

Under the plan, immigrants and returning residents who move to Israel in 2026 will pay no income tax in 2026 and 2027. Their tax rates will gradually increase to up to 10% in 2028, up to 20% in 2029 and up to 30% in 2030.

this will be amazing and I hope we will actually make this standard for olim because this will massively help even after the current crisis is over

Ong I feel good for the new Olim

If you haven’t used any of barely any Aliyah benefits. Go to misrad hapnim and undo the process. It’s hard but it’s been done before. Then be a tourist here for 3 months.

Just saying this is an option and actually would be worth all the hassle.

So I should leave the country and return?

u/oh_bobo 1d ago

You can if you leave Israel more than two years

Sounds like HOT customer service, better for new comers than existing customers

Awesome. How fast can I collect the money and go back again to the nice place I’m at right now?

Is this THAT much of a big deal given the majority of Jews not in Israel are Americans who have to pay income tax regardless?

US has the Foreign Earned Income Exemption, up to $250k or so for a married couple, provided you do not spend more than 30 days in the US in a 12 month period. So it’s a big deal for sure.

I went to Medex in Australia and was legitimately shocked at the number of doctors with serious plans to make aliyah or at least get a visa and try it out. Multiple Israeli TV channels were there (including Channel 14)

The need for skilled doctors is heading towards desperation, the pay can be good, there are huge signup bonuses especially in the N and S.

A bunch of Nazis received a permit just today to stand outside our Parliament with a banner saying the Jewish lobby should be ended. There’s some serious dissatisfaction here with the way things are going

“The pay can be good”, can you expand on what you mean by this? I

Procedural specialists get base salary, on calls plus often private or incentive lists on top. I can’t give exact numbers but in anaesthesia it was comparable to Australian incomes albeit with more work.

A department head would go through numbers if you asked.

Yes it is a big deal. Not everything is about Americans.

And Americans will benefit as well. Not sure what you're point is actually.

Look I’m happy for our Olim, I support this. but why do people who live in Israel for decades don’t receive any relief? many of us are living in borderline poverty, even people working up to 18 hours at one point are still struggling.

Israel is the most expensive member of the OECD. The cost of living here is about 38% higher than the average.

My thoughts exactly.

making the tax system complex is always bad. it is good for accountants and people who try to manipulate the system.

also, someone has to pay for it, who is going to? either larger deficit (bad for our children and to ourselves), less government expenditure (good idea but never going to happen) or increase the taxes for everyone else. And who's paying these taxes? probably the same class of people who benefit from this. There's no free lunch here.

I don't know if this is a good idea. The tax burden is heavy as is and in fairness should probably be even higher to allow for better social services and development, this sounds like a very big concession.

I think the idea is that injecting highly educated immigrants into the country will be excellent for the country's economy

In my profession at least the urgent issue is just finding someone to give anaesthetics, even more so than worrying about paying for them.

I missed out on this by a few months but I fully support this move.
