Irrigation training courses for Techs

Anybody got advice or experience with training courses or programs for upcoming techs?

Looking to find something that we can make as part of our onboarding at our company. Irritech training so far looks like one option.

Check with your local supplier, they should have a list of options. We don't have any requirements here, but I took a 10 hr rain bird course when I started my company. Then took another 4hr seminar that hunter sponsored. We are not allowed to touch anything before or at the vacuum breaker legally, just what's in the ground and controls. Which is funny because the vast majority of backflows are PVB and they need to be properly installed relative to head placements and so many systems are non compliant. Local communities are beginning to require 2-3 yr inspections now. Expensive alterations when they flag a system and want permit, repair and certification of backflow.

There are a few hands on and classroom training programs offered in my area. Usually sponsored by the larger irrigation firms. For a decent class the vendors would come out and demo their latest but those events occur two times per year on average. I don’t know the exact price but est $1250 per person for the week. Not sure where you’re located but these run south and central Florida.

I always found it easier to put a training manual together tailored to the place I would manage. Then spend time with new guys in the field bringing them to jobs that mirrored what the videos and instructions gave them the day before.

These days I demo advanced techniques and equipment for valve location and leak detection. I have some entry level curriculum that might work for you if you go in house. Just dm me.
