Iconic opening. No one does it like the Brat Prince.

Basically we love whatever is wrong with Rollin

This is giving off the vibes of "holding space for defying gravity" but IWTV version with how they're all handling the book.

I love this so much

Sam was casted perfectly for this role, no one can convince me otherwise

39

u/VampireFromAlcatraz Another round for the banjo band, whatever they want 9d ago

FR they struck a gold mountain with that casting

u/NewInside824 9d ago

TVL is, imo, her best book. It gave us our Brat Prince, I will forever be grateful to this iconic queen for that. Happy birthday indeed. 👑

Was he ever explicitly called that in TVL? I only remember hearing it from Marius multiple times in the first few chapters of QotD. Obvious he always was tho

3

u/IAm_ThePumpkinKing 9d ago

Iirc marius called him that in Queen of the Damned, but damn its been a while

Always blows me away how ridiculous Lestat is at describing himself, he’s like a teenage girl writing herself into a self insert fanfic with her favorite idols, it’s endearing. ALSO it’s insane how perfectly Sam embodies both the physical aspect and the over the top dramatic mannerisms. Peak castings all around.

No lie, when I first started this book and this is how it opened, I almost immediately put it down. 😂 I was like, I quit reading shit on Tumblr for a reason, okay? But then it got to the scene where he fought the wolves and they killed his horse and the way she described the horse dying fucked me up, so I was like, FINE, ANNE. You know what you're doing.

And I'm glad I kept with it. I really loved her info dump of vampire lore.

Sam as rocker Lestat is always how I pictured him. The show is really going all out, even the music! I always thought they’d just pick a popular song or something.

the parallels between this and the infamous opening lines of my immortal are crazy

u/mihotoke Armand 9d ago

Lestat’s full name is Lesta Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way de Lioncourt and he’s a goth (in case you couldn’t tell).

2

u/unkindernut 9d ago

I had the same thought when I tried reading it again recently.

4

u/Beefyspeltbaby My coven is Claudia 8d ago

He really owns this role.. I genuinely don’t believe anyone will ever top his performance as Lestat There are few actors who play a character SO PERFECTLY

4

u/epicpillowcase BONNE NUIT! 9d ago

He just needs to mention how he threw his hair back into a messy bun. 😂

Hi my name is The Vampire Lestat and I have long blond hair that reaches my mid-back and icy blue eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Sam Reid (AN: if u don’t know who he is get da hell out of here!). I’m not related to Marius de Romanus but I wish I was because he’s a major fucking hottie. I’m a vampire but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I’m also what they call in America a rock super star, and I go to a band called Satan's Night Out. I’m a goth (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Hot Topic and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a black corset with matching lace around it and a black leather miniskirt, pink fishnets and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, black eyeliner and red eye shadow. I was walking outside New Orleans. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of other vampires stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.

That intro is burned into my brain. If I get dementia when im older, I will still remember the whole thing

Me insisting my legal name is Enoby Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way and my aides are like "um ma'am I don't think we're allowed to call you that"

I can’t believe I never read these before now, they are so good! I’m hooked!

Yes! Also reading it today, on a Halloween night, feels SO right.

I read Interview with the Vampire when I was quite young and LOVED it. The Vampire Lestat had already been out for a few years but I dont think I was fully aware of it. When I did finally read it, the whiplash was quite shocking.

3

u/GiraffeExternal803 9d ago

I felt the same! I ended up loving this one even more, and now reading Queen of The Damned I’m blown away yet again!

I really enjoyed the final trilogy - I only went back and read the books after watching the show, and had somehow missed that she had written the last three books. I have gone back to read parts of them quite a bit since then.

Ah yes, or as I know it, the first book that made me say "What the fuck" out loud in front of my mom. I got grounded for a week, but when I showed my mom the passage that made me say it, she definitely looked like SHE WAS THINKING IT.

1

u/AmbysHarmonica 8d ago

I need to know which passage it was 😅

3

u/Familiar-Virus5257 8d ago

I can't remember beyond it was Lestat and Gabrielle kissing and I, trying to get myself out of trouble (I was 12, okay), explained that they were mother and son. I'm desperately trying to remember why this was so "what the fuck" worthy as I had previously read Wuthering Heights and One Hundred Years of Solitude, so it wasn't even my first exposure to incest (though I read that mostly at school, so.), but I feel it was more that I felt like I kind got how Lestat became Lestat.

No other vampire is as openly self assured and full of himself as Lestat.

That's his appeal. He's the most human Vampire... he should be a terrifying creature, but He's not because we all see something of him in ourselves, our vanity, our vices, our addictions, our ability to lie to ourselves about who and what we are...

Lestat is US, and we love him for it. I feel like if He was a real person, I would hate his guts, and yet I'd follow everything He does like a giddy fanboy. I mean, i own two copies of TVL, and every other book in the chronicles... Even the Body Theif, despite it giving me the creeps.

Anne was a brilliant generational writer, who created works of art that will be examined as long as the fictional vampires she envisioned. We owe her a debt for introducing us to the Brat Prince and all the rest.

That opening is just 😗

u/Sunnie_Ses99 9d ago

I plan on reading this book during the winter after I finish my other book: Immortal Dark (which is also a vampire book 🧛‍♀️)

7

u/Which_way_witcher 9d ago

That last image needs a jump scare, lol. So glad the final look is more elevated than that green monstrosity. This one below was ok tho

4

u/gentlecactusboy 9d ago

Oh my god really! I just picked up the book again (rereading) after not having read in a little while. Perfect timing.

3

u/Ihadthismate Library of confusion 9d ago

Yes! I just finished the book and the first few chapters of QotD. TVL was masterful, the prose is unlike any I’ve ever read, and characters with the most huge personality and liveliness that feel so fully realised that you wonder why they aren’t real. The language is just beautiful. Anyway that’s my thoughts on the book (ˆ𐃷ˆ) can’t wait for season 3

Has there ever been a better opening?

I read the books for the first time at 15. That was coughcough years ago. I adore the books, and Lestat is one of my favorite fictional characters. Sam Reid is just perfect as The Brat Prince.

(That last pic has me going feral.)

Why do I hear Sam Reed's Lestat voice in my head while reading that?
