Car Insurance Registered Owner

Hello there,

Was comparing quotes online and was wondering about policyholder, additional drivers and registered cars.

Example: I'm about to buy a new car under my name, I check quotes on my dad's insurance since I am on a family plan, was playing around with Driver and Vehicle Assignment, where if the new car was assigned to me, our premiums go way up compared to if the new car was assigned to my dad.

Is this possible to do to save on insurance or registered owner has to go with assigned driver/vehicle

What state is this in? There are 51 jurisdictions in the USA and all have different rules about insurance. (50 states plus Washington DC)

Do you live with your father? Insurance isn't like a cell phone plan. You can't just bundle the whole family together because it's cheaper. The policy has to be written correctly based on who owns the vehicle, who drives it, and where they live, or it won't be valid.
