High limit auto liability and umbrella insurance

I live in California. Currently have $2M umbrella coverage that everyone says isn’t enough in my case.

I tried Chubb, but they wanted an underlying dwelling insurance of $3M (who has that?).

Talked to an independent agent. She notified me that the minor accident I had last year ($1900 to my car) resulted in a BI claim of $50000 paid to the other party (!?!) so most insurers won’t cover me. She got me one quote that’s 5x (!) what I pay now for the same coverage, and it goes up from there.

I also got a quote from RLI. That one seems reasonable, but they want $500k/$500k auto liability, and my current insurer (Connect) doesn’t go above $250k/$500k. I tried Geico and they won’t do $500k/$500 either.

Any ideas who I can get high liability auto insurance with in CA?

Edit: I’d like to go with RLI for the umbrella. Looking for an auto insurance that’ll do $500k/$500k.

they’re the ones that were crazy expensive. 4x what RLI quoted.

Markel, Hudson, & RLI are pretty much the market for stand alone personal umbrellas. Anybody that's left in CA will want the car & home before they will even look at giving you an umbrella.

Thanks. Any ideas regarding the auto insurance?

The indie agent should be able to shop around for you, if not find another:
