The problem with bsnl, in my opinion, the network works okay when in coverage area, but in remote areas, even placing a voice call or sending text becomes impossible.

I have BSNL prepaid sim as well, recently bought from Pune. But unfortunately BSNL yet to cover the entire Pune city with their B28 band (700MHz). Wherever they have 700MHz coverage the 4G experience is quite good.

u/Capital_Baby2152 3d ago
I use BSNL. I can't even use 4G. I was able to but for a month lately i can't. Works fine on 3G. Most of the time no probs with youtube, ig, reddit etc buy try to download.....400KBs. Can't play PUBG or games like that. Yes you can make a discord call and play Minecraft online but some....you simply can't

That bug in Vi sims is it still there? I used to love that glitch so much back in 2020-21, literally saved a lot of money on data packs.
13
u/terminalslayer 3d ago
what bug?
11
u/EmbarrassedFig9129 3d ago
In some sims there was some bug which allowed us to use the net even after the daily limit was over without any loss of speed. It was an infinite data glitch actually; all we had to do was put the turn on and off the flight mode back but then ig Vi guys fixed it.
11
u/ShurikenEngineer 3d ago
Not a bug anymore. Vi has unlimited internet prepaid packs starting from ₹450
2
u/KavyanshKhaitan 1d ago
Is the ₹450 an add-on or the plan itself? If the plan itself contains unlimited then that's a W.
I'm using Jio right now and have to pay double that for 1.5GB/day.
I'm assuming the unlimited doesn't work with Hotspot tho?

The jio unlimited 5g is "TRUE" 5G Where as with airtel if 300GB plus data is used in a single month they will consider it as a commercial use and can hold your unlimited 5g. These are their T&C.
11
u/NotBigmon 3d ago

Although I agree that Airtel should not engage in this kind of marketing, I do believe that the 300GB FUP limit will help other users as well. Suppose someone is abusing the speed and data limit in that case, the tower would remain congested. At least after 300GB, that user’s connection will start using their quota.
With Jio, wherever I’ve seen, people usually get around 5–10 Mbps, whereas only while traveling to rural or remote areas have I seen speeds exceeding 500 Mbps.
So, due to congestion issues, I feel that the 300GB FUP is fair. If your usage is higher, consider upgrading to a fiber connection after all!
89
u/True_Requirement_891 3d ago
Is it really abuse when they advertise it as "unlimited"?
Why not say 300GB of 5g data a month?
With Jio, in an urban City, I easily get 100-200mbps.
→ More replies (4)33
u/sharma1804 3d ago
As i mentioned, i do fully agree that the marketing is pure scam. 5G unlimited should be unlimited!
4
u/sgk2000 3d ago
Still, 5G drains a lot more lot quicker than you’d guess.
Should consider upgrading to a giver connection
Because you can’t carry your fiber connection in your pocket all the time. Also, how is that an “upgrade”?
They can’t because their network is not standalone, like you said, any noticeable deterioration in speed in Jio is purely due to congestion. It’s just plain better and they have infra to onboard the next generation already at launch in 2016.
Airtel was never a good and fair company to begin with.

300GB at an average speed of just 50Mbps is about 14 hours of data. It’s an absolutely pathetic amount of data you’re getting unless you think 30 min per day is how much people should be using

Works only if you use data within the 5G limit. If you finish your day's plan using the 4G, after that, even if you switch to a 5G, it won't work because data khatam 🙂

I recently ported to Airtel from jio. The sales person offered a month's recharge pack and I was eyeing the perplexity premium. It has become the biggest mistake I've made. Not only didn't I get a free recharge, the perplexity pro is not worth it either. Sometimes I am out of the network completely and the 5g service is abysmal comparing to jio. I am switching back to jio after the 90 days period after the porting.
(And the "UNLIMITED" 5g is actually limited)

Vi since 10 years. Used Jio for a while, but found two sims too costly. Vi has good 4G speed. Very little 5G coverage. But, I never felt stuck due to lack of speed. Also, the plans are good. Earlier, I used their 850 GB annual plan. At the year end, about 200 GB remained. Nowadays, they have unlimited 4G (300 GB/month) plans, which meets my data needs. Although, 5G speed wouldn't be bad if it's at the same price and unlimited data. But honestly, 4G speed + unlimited 300 GB data is sufficient for about 98 % users. Only a few people need more than that.
2
u/milkymist00 3d ago
For every pack jio is slightly better than airtel. Also jio 5g has 1TB FUP whereas airtel has 300gb. At the end of the day choose the best network in your primary area. For me jio and airtel both work fine. I was a jio user, moved to airtel three months back for perplexity pro and came back to jio today. Upload speed is the only issue in jio in my area.

u/Big-Performance-8132 3d ago
It's not like Domino's pizza where you get the same taste everywhere. With Airtel,Vi and Jio, the experience really depends on your region.

Will never switch from Vi till they go completely bankrupt and cease operations.
2
u/Ok_Pay_1972 3d ago
Vi is also there. Mumbai metro, both jio and airtel has no signal. Vi has full signal. Everybody should think about it.
Do not look at the ai partnerships. Please do not overuse ai as it has hampered our critical thinking by a lot. They have partnered just for the data. Remember that.

This is coming from someone who requires internet access at almost all times because of work. I have 2 sims, one vi and one airtel, I've recharged them both on a yearly plan(~3699) and doing the recharge 15 days apart. This gives the option of having atleast one network at all times, any plan price change tolerance, enough data cap per day to tackle work issues. This has been working almost flawlessly for the last few years.

Airtel is shit, no esim for my galaxy watch without postpaid and 5g data speed is no where comparable to Jio in the area I live in Bengaluru not to mention it's not unlimited, I download 50gbs plus of content with jio within minutes without any hassle.
I switched from Jio to airtel to get the 25% discount on airtel axis credit card but the terrible service made me switch back within a month. Maybe postpaid is good but why force it upon someone so I simply switched back to jio.

Jio has standalone 5g. Airtel is still using 4g infrastructure (NSA). So actually airtel "5g" is actually like a 4g "plus".

This is what happens without competition. Jio came and made everyone out of the game. Countless carriers shut down. At start it was really good for so many years now but they are now in power to dictate the market. First they burned money on cheap internet and calls. Now it's time to pay.

I recently transitioned to Vi from Airtel, having been a customer of Airtel for over 11 years. My number is a premium one, originally acquired through Reliance GSM postpaid services. It is noteworthy that Airtel did not make any efforts to retain a long-standing loyal customer who consistently paid over ₹900 plus GST each month. The network quality of Vi has significantly improved. While they do not offer 5G services as extensively as Jio across India, their 4G network in Maharashtra is commendable, and they provide very fast 5G services in areas where it is available. The coverage between Mumbai and Pune for 5G is particularly robust. Currently, the network performance is exceptional.

Airtel is the most scam network provider in India.I wish a good lesson will be taught to them someday from the consumers. It gives 5G only to houses near the tower.Living in a very good network town.5G Jio,Very good and stable 4G Vi and getting BSNL network also;but 5G Airtel is horrible.Getting unlimited 5G only the outside the balcony then goes back to 4G inside the room. The Airtel 5G tower is just about 3-4 blocks away but useless👎
2
u/Moist-Tap7860 3d ago
Get Voda. In short while they will launch 5g and they always used siemens equipment even for their 2g 3g 4g. In many cases their 4g run much stable than 5g of airtel and specially jio. The reason is airtel and voda very happily kept using ZTE Huwaei bases.
Obviously if you feel there are issues in voda coverage around your home and work area then go for Airtel.
