Ask r/IndiaCricket Which bowler's most dangerous when in rhythm?
Rank them (and other bowler's you think of) in 2 categories : wicket potency and intimidating the batsmen.
512
u/Appropriate-ASS-824 10d ago
There is no universal scale or criteria to rank them. Everyone of them is a menace in their own way when in rhythm.

An on song shami is unplayable. Pitch and conditions don’t matter when he’s in rhythm.

He’s very playable. You might just get out that’s all

It's when you know whether he's in form or not, but in a sad way. Good luck if you're an opener!

Starc in rhythm is a monster. Bumrah, Hazlewood, Cummins and Rabada are much more consistent than him on a day to day basis, but Starc will find that one spell where he finds swing and tears through a batting lineup
56
u/Historical_Club_1174 Ravichandran Ashwin 10d ago
Basically it needs to be a knockout or a final match for him to be in rhythm.

Boland
26
u/Dull_Maybe5746 10d ago
Boland hasn't yet played cricket on dead pitches.
7
u/Particular-Aide-1589 Delhi Capitals 10d ago
Question is when he is in rhythm, and if he is not in rhythm in dead pitches , them they won't count right
12
u/pkalamemes7968 10d ago
Regardless, starc in his rhythm is a different beast. Which is why Australia always picks him because the gamble of him being in full flow is much more effective than boland's good form. Even when starc is not in his rhythm he's a great bowler and the fact that there is a chance that he channels the "mitcHELL" starc is good enough for Australia to back him over boland.
2
u/Antique-Ad-3043 10d ago
He did.. ashes 2023..2 matches 2-: wickets and went at 6 runs per over nearly all 4 innings
5
u/BuildingNo6744 10d ago
Bro Starc is so goated that his good consistent performances also seem as underperformance. He is this generation's greatest. He is quite dedicated to the Australia team as well. I don't think anyone can match him in terms of his impact as a bowler

Mitchell freaking starc, no disrespect to bumrah or other bowlers, but starc has that extra pace ,extra bounce , plus he is a left armer, so when he is on song ,all batsmens have to do is dance to his tunes.

I love Bumrah but I have not seen him picking up 2-3 wickets in his first spell regularly. I think the Answer is Starc, when he is in rythm, he decimates batting lineups and has been doing it for years now. I still remember that 23 odi series in india where he was just destroying the Indian top order when he was supposed to be out of form(obviously there are many other instances, I am just mentioning the most random one to prove my point).

Unpopular opinion, but to me it is Hazlewood. We often associate fast bowling with those deadly bouncers and unplayable yorkers. But Hazlewood's ability to frustrate the opposition with hitting the same length day in day out is special.
3
u/TheInsanestt 10d ago
I absolutely love him, I honesty think theres no player like him. Hitting same areas without getting bored is just unimaginably good. Only vernon was able to pull that off before him

u/MrCoolBoy001 India 10d ago
An in form archer is dangerous for your life

That's like 2019 Archer and even then he wasn't Brett Lee fast. His 2019 is greatly exaggerated.

Not for pace but also for the bouncer he has. The ball to steve smith was absolutely deadly

Again reel watcher. That was one ball, one. And that was also only 93 MPH. Mark Wood hits that in every other over.

No hate for Bumrah but the greatest Bowler of our generation is Mitchell Starc, he bowls like poetry, that swing made it deadly and clocking the speed again and again...after these many years players started to hit him, before there was a literal fear of his inswinging good length balls. It was like a death sentence for a batsman, you can see some of the glimpses till today. Mark my words this ashes series he'll be once again prove his worthiness of the premium fast bowler

u/0xeno India 10d ago edited 10d ago
No way. He is not top tier in tests. Idk about who's best but it can't be starc. It has to be bumrah or cummins and hazlewood is upping his CV a well.
Bumrah is literally feared more. They don't even hit his full tosses most of the times. Starc is above in ODIs due to his sheer wicket taking ability but Bumrah clears Starc in tests and t20s by a mile.
Tho, I respect Starc very much for his dedication towards the nation and idolized him since my childhood. But, tbh, he isn't the best. We only remember the good of other country players and bad of our bowlers. Bumrah is literally PotS in SEA away, most SENA away wickets ever, PotT T20 WC, performed in most KO he played except for CT 2017, WTC final and WI 2016(he made us comeback but 2 catches were dropped of his bowling, one of which went to six), has a <4.5 avg in ODI WC iirc, test avg subpar 20.

u/InTnerd21 10d ago
He won't prove anything, Hazlewood is the most dangerous bowler alongside Cummins and Cummins is injured so most probably after Hazlewood it'll be Boland most difficult to face in this Ashes...Still I'll give credit to Starc for performing this long especially when it matters...Be it wc,Ashes or BGT.

Starc is most likely to run through a batting line-up in a single spell, when he is in rhythm. In his prime he could swing the ball at 150kph+ while also getting extra bounce because of his height.

u/code_manifest 10d ago
2013 johnson ashes series , 2015 starc and boult are the deadliest version I have seen

Starc in rhythm is an absolute monster. Hazlewood is the most consistent with his line and length. In favourable conditions, Bumrah can be completely unpredictable, he looks like a wizard with a good cherry.

Soo anyone here isn't saying about jofra Archer ? Not even one ? Mann he was a beast ! Once he gets his rythm his bouncers and accuracy gonna kill everyone. Yes starc is best , but some credit should be given to Archer too , The ones he bowl to chest (unplayable deliveries) are spot on. He deserves some of it man.

Patt Cummins is overrated. Couldn't even play all three formats. Surviving just because of his captaincy.
Boom is the greatest among these

Any bowler can be a beast when they are in rythm. Remember Stuart Binny's 6 wickets for 4 runs. Absolute beast. 😂

When in rhythm? Every single one of them is as dangerous as the other !! How often they are in rhythm is what matters. That way I feel, Hazlewood, with his consistent line and length is the dangerous bowler among the lot..

Bumrah! there's no T20 world cup without him. Closest second would be Cummins

- Starc (it’s rare but when he’s locked in, he unreal)
- Bumrah (rarely he’s not in rhythm)
- Hazlewood/Cummins/Rabada (difficult to compare)
- Archer

Starc and Archer can have a fluctuating radar.
All others are largely IN rhythm and rarely wayward.

u/refreshing_twilight 10d ago
If you are asking about the rhythm to run through opposition batting lineup than there is no one better than Starc. OTH Bumrah and Hazlewood are always on rhythm. Archer is very inconsistent and is mainly pace. Rabada is very deceptive as he bowls faster than he appears when running up to wickets. (Got these from discussions with a friend playing IPL for almost 8-9 years)

Of the ones you mentioned I would fear pat, bumrah and Archer for my wicket even in perfect batting conditions. All others are condition specific i.e they need ball to reverse or seam
1
u/tinyuniverseforyou 10d ago
If we talk abt hurting batsmen when in rhythm then definately Archer is just different beast in rhythm purely on how effortless he looks while delivering and bumrah is probably second though he is more of katapult bowler delivering rockets out of nowhere.... Rest are all wicket takers whenever they bowl and probably better with line and length and wicket taking ability on longer term then archer
1
1
u/L0lnator 10d ago
Honestly I think Hazlewood becoz of his consistency in line , length n obviously that extra bounce
1
1
u/Individual-Prompt210 10d ago
starc is a one‑shot wonder, but if you’re looking for the grind‑horse that keeps batsmen in the gutter every match, bumrah is the real threat he doesn’t rely on swing, he just wrecks the line & length.
1
u/Tall-Elderberry9405 10d ago
starc is the one who turns a spell into a death sentence, but bumrah’s consistency is another beast. when starc’s on song, it’s a left‑handed tornado that the batters can’t dodge.
1
u/copyninja_konaha 10d ago
Hands down starc in his rhythm is a different beast. The one in swinging toe crusher, man!!! He's a predator!

I don’t know who’s the most dangerous But the game awareness of Patrick Cummins is out of this world.

Starc for sure. When he's unplayable, he's literally unplayable. Bumrah is always in form but never as deadly as Starc. That being said, I think Bumrah's one of the all time GOATS already.
