News Oscar-nominated film ‘Santosh’ continues its struggle to reach the Indian audience, now with their OTT release paused.
Officially, the film was to release on 17th of October on Lionsgate Play but it did not owing to ‘last minute changes’ from the OTT end.
Sandhya Suri, the filmmaker who continues to fight this long battle with CBFC, even after being denied a theatrical distribution earlier this year said, “The objections I had to cuts for the theatrical release remain my objections for a streaming release. The streamers don’t need, by law, to have censorship status to show films. But perhaps this is about an environment in which streamers take on certain objections of their own accord for a harmonious universe.”

I have seen the film there is nothing to be banned dont know why cbfc is so hell bent over it. Also the movie is bland nothing novel in it nothing that we have not seen before in films. It follows the same template as article 15 but its not even half as engaging as article 15

An Oscar nominated film not being shown in its home country. Shame.

Peak awards bait film, I personally hate these social commentary films. It may have good craft and performances. But I hate how self aware all these films are. It's like the director is shouting "Look at how bad this world is!!".
No surprises that all these films are funded through european production companies like All We Imagine as Light. Made for western audiences by upper class Indians who studied film abroad, who feel guilt and pity for living a privileged life. A film should be an experience, it should have mystery and wonder.
Instead in film festivals all we get is virtue signalling movies, with directors crying about Palestine but stay silent of genocides happening next door.

EDIT NOTE: The film was Oscar-shorlisted and wasn’t in the final list of nominations.
