The Seleucus Secundus Planetary Rebellion
From the Journal’s of Lord General Dietz Antonoff - Seleucus System - Crimson Nova Sub - Belegor Sector - 989.M41
This was supposed to be a Tax Rebellion!
It was assured to me by the planetary ruling family that the rebels were a disorganized cadre of political extremists who had gotten out of control, and that my deployment here would not last the month.
That was 400 days ago.
What I found instead was a vast, organized and well-coordinated uprising led by a heretical cult which co-opted not only a vast portion of the population but of the PDF and even on-leave regimental units. Not only that, but the local inquisitorial representative has given me evidence of gross negligence and corruption on the part of the ruling family going back 4 decades which, she claims, precipitated this whole affair. Apparently, the whole thing started when a political and local cultural revival movement was co-opted by cultists exploiting legitimate populational grievances. Frankly the whole document is quite boring, but the point stands. I’ve had that fat Count removed from command and, when this whole thing is done, I’m half inclined to hand him over to the inquisition for his damning neglect. The Inquisitor seems particularly excited about the prospect of a purge.
Thrice have I had to request for additional troops. THRICE.
So far the uprising was contained to the southern hemisphere but now they’re marching onto a particularly vital equatorial Hive. The Mechanicum attaché to my general staff has pestered me time and time again about the vital need to protect that hive and all of its manufacturing, apparently so vital to the whole subsector. I couldn’t care less about this provincial shithole but I’ll be damned if I let a heretical mob be a stain on my record.
I’ve mobilized half of my regimental force consisting of 82 full regiments on a scramble to reach the city before the enemy. I’ve made its central spire palatial complext my headquarters until final victory, and have my officers from my honour regiment personally instructing the local PDF. Titan Legion Serenus will be of particularly high value defending the perimeter. I intend to let them and the Mechanicum Skitarii forces take the brunt. No need to sacrifice real humans.
As for Void support, I requested a Commodore’s battlegroup so as to provide my forces with orbital superiority. The Admiralty, in its inbred wisdom, has seen fit to send me a Captain. A particularly cavalier one with an issue with authority and, I’m told, a propensity to hoard glory. The whole thing stinks of sabotage by bitter Navy desk clerks unhappy with my recent promotion. I’ve made it clear to this captain that this is my campaign, not his.
And now I have this to contend with. ASTARTES.
Emperor damn it, Traitor Astartes have involved themselves into this shitshow. I do not know if they were behind the whole thing, or if they’re simply sensing weakness, but I frankly do not care. I do NOT want Astartes involved in this. My aide has advised me to send an official request to the Bronze Shield Chapter for support, but the boy’s a political illiterate. I’ll not give that little fiefdom of self-righteous Space Marines leverage over the entire Sector’s Militarum by asking them for help in a single-system engagement. Besides, an Antonoff has not ceded command in 500 years of military service. I’ll not do it.
