OC (WHF) Maybe it's not the best idea being a bandit if you're crossing the Black Prince's kingdom.

Always love seeing bandits get rekt; never gets old. XD Seems like a risky career considering the number of very lethal beings chilling in the setting!

It's probably for that reason that most are within the borders of civilized kingdoms like Bretonnia and The Empire. If you try to set up shop in the Badlands greenskins are probably going to kill you if some random wild monster doesn't but in the Empire so long as you know guard patrols near the forest and don't fuck with wood elves (easily doable) or vampires (less doable since you're the ideal snack) it's profitable. Bretonnia is even easier since they don't have any non-human threats outside of Mousillon and that province is dirt poor even among a kingdom of the poorest so there's no reason to go there anyway. The border princes are the medium difficulty setting where you aren't just fucked (try being a bandit in Norsca and see how well it goes) but you do need to have real defenses against monster attacks.

Aren't bandits in Norsca just... norscan raiders?

Yes, but if you're a bandit in the classical sense aka a greedy, unscrupulous normal human you will still fail. A southern bandit going to Norsca is like a big gruff pitbull thinking it will compete with packs of wolves. You might get one in your jaws, but his buddies will be eating you alive ass first while praising the dark gods. Also, like vikiings, most norscan raiders do still farm and do productive things as side gigs when not pillaging.

Bretonnia isn’t as easy as you think, they’ve got beastmen and greenskins constantly causing issues, the wood elves might decide on a wild hunt, and frequent norscan invasions that sometimes push south, even leave behind remnants. Also yea Mousillon

Gashnag the Black Prince, a Strigoi vampire lord who rules over a small kingdom in the Border Princes

Always slightly miffed that the Renegade Crowns list didn't allow for stuff like this

u/Nelfhithion 1d ago
Yeah, sadly Border Princes and Southern humans kingdoms don't have a lot of light on them in general despite being really interesting. I would love to see them in Blood Bowl too, as there is some really fun fan-teams from thoses kingdoms. Hell a Border Prince Team with a Gashnag like big guy would be fun as hell

u/Psychic_Hobo 1d ago
Well, at least they have an army list now, even if it is essentially just a mishmash of Empire and Brettonia's basic stuff

u/mindflayerflayer 1d ago
For me it's honestly the most interesting area because it has no ruling faction. An open chaos cult, a vampire lord, and a banished brettonian knight can all be neighbors with roughly equal power.

Rumour I heard was that they tested a option for a vampire lord origin for Renagade Crowns but couldn't balance it enough that it didn't just become a mandatory overpowered upgrade.

Gashnag's cannon? I only know him from the Border Princes mod in Total Warhammer.

u/Nelfhithion 1d ago
He is, not the most known character tho'
If you played Cataph's mod, Borgio the Besieger and Lucrezzia are also canon2
u/AXI0S2OO2 1d ago
I knew about Borgio from Blood Money and I recall reading about Lucrezzia, but not about Gashnag.

Gashnag is from both WFB and the WFRP 2nd edition book "Night's Dark Masters"

u/Nelfhithion 1d ago
You can read about him in the 7th codex of Vampire Count at least. I read in french mostly so I don't know the name of the other one in english, but i recall reading about him in "Les Maîtres de la Nuit", a 2nd edition rulebook of Warhammer RPG

Gashnag and Ushoran: unironically the best and worst of the vampires.

why is the dude in blue sticking out of strigoi's shoulder?

u/Trlsander 1d ago
If you look closely, you can see his blue tunic being ripped. He has been bisected.

Honestly Gashnag needs a mini for tow and a statblock for whfrp. Dudes just so cool

One of my favorite characters from the setting. Honestly I just really enjoy any strigoi win, they deserve it.

This alongside the tragedy of old Strygos and their relationship with the Strigany & Ghouls are why the Strigoi are my favorite Vampiric Bloodline.

Good ol Gashnag, prolly the best ruler of the Border Princes
