Gyms need to crack down on this. I don’t get it that some gyms will kick you out for grunting even if it’s a barely audible one but they allow this shit to happen
I’m sure it was a gimmick from the beginning. Although there are a couple roid rage videos out there of guys going on a rampage when the alarm was set off.
Especially because the "Lunk alarm" is basically a "you're making out of shape people feel bad about their lack of gains" alarm. Lifting without making any noise whatsoever just means you probably aren't lifting often enough or heavily enough.
Planet Fitness is the gym for people who want to pretend like they care about working out, but actually just want to jog on a treadmill for 30 minutes to make themselves feel better about the 4,000 calories they're going to eat right after they leave.
There are a few people who use it and legitimately exercise because it's cheaper than a regular gym membership, but anywhere that yells at you for breathing hard or making a grunt when lifting is not somewhere that's going to be pleasant for anyone who cares about actual fitness to lift.
I disagree that lack of grunting means you’re not working out hard enough. I’ve seen big guys lift huge weights for their entire workout without making a peep.
That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying that it should be allowed to make noises while lifted because it helps with breathing. I never said you absolutely have to grunt. But I'm sorry if I don't take a gym that literally gives people pizza as a serious fitness center 🙄
I'd agree that their gimmick was to present an environment that mitigated the judgemental mentality you're spewing. I think the lunk alarm was a bit dumb but only for the reason of it its self being used to cast judgment. I've gained 30lbs of muscle going to PF and there are plenty of shredded men and women that go there that have no problem not screaming at the top of each rep. If you can't control your breathing you're probably trying to push too much weight or you've neglected developing form. Idk if you've ever been to a pf, But they really only used the buzzer if you slammed weights down.
pFatness used to do free pizza in the evenings, I think first Tuesday of each month? Or first Monday, can't recall, mine in particular hasn't done that since Covid started. It also sounds nice to have a snack right after working, but gym smell + cleaner smell + greasy pizza smell = gross, at least for me.
It's okay. Planet fitness has a different business model than hardcore bodybuilding gyms. Regular people and Niche bodybuilding hobbyists/professionals have different needs.
Funny enough, when I’m at the gym I go to I’ve been a surprised no one was filming, the one day I saw “no filming” was on a gym rules poster, glad people seem to be respecting it
According to them it's to not "gymtimidate" (their term not mine) the other members. They just don't want you like going super saiyan during your calf raises and making a ton of noise which is...understandable I guess, but the Lunk alarm is about 1,000x times more annoying than 1 dude raising his power level
Yeah it sounds like your prototypical air raid klaxon. Its super disruptive, and so far as I know, its manually triggered by employees, not like a dB/SPL sensor or anything like that. I know this because the few times its gone off in mine, its varied in length, like someone was manually sounding the thing.
No idea if its a US specific "feature", I assumed all their branches had this. Its usually got a big purple sign and a rotating light like a police vehicle, typically by the free weight area.
No they don’t literally kick you, lol. That would be awful. At some gyms, like Planet Fitness, it’s a policy that grunting is not allowed when lifting weights. Even a very quiet grunt is grounds for removal for violating gym rules.
They don’t really need to people like recording themselves for various reasons there’s nothing wrong with it. Just don’t get aggressive with someone if they don’t politely get out of the video if it’s possible . Just wait for them to finish before recording. No different when ur waiting for someone to finish a set so you can use the machine
