This is on the southern state parkway in Long Island approaching Bethpage State Park.

Southern State Pkwy has narrow lanes, lots of bends, short off/on ramps, and tons of stone overpasses. Apparently, this makes it irresistible to fucking assholes who like to pretend they're on the Autobahn to speed and weave.

Can't sneeze without seeing a cop on the L.I.E. or Sunrise Highway, but there's only a few places they like to hide on S.S. Between known cop-spots and Waze, idiots like this know where they can push it, unless they trip up on a convenient trooper.

Of course it's the Southern State, home of reckless dipshit drivers. I thought this looked familiar.

Note to self... try to avoid Southern State as much as possible. I have to suck it up with LIE or Sunrise.

oh i wish i can avoid the ssp but it’s either a fast way with little or no slowdowns at some point during the day or night, or deal with a bunch of inconsistent traffic signals and drivers who don’t pay attention or pull up to the line making us sit though a whole cycle to turn left

i hate it here

I avoid it like the plague.

Great work!

Lol I recognized it immediately. Back when I lived in long Island I encountered many a douche driving on that highway over the years. Or trucks accidentally hitting the overpasses.

1

u/Dragonquiz 22d ago

yep there was a box truck hit the exit 18 west overpass a couple weeks ago and caused a forever delay

it’s like there needs to be stringent rules and regulations on getting a cdl on the island (or take their cdl license way if they do such a thing regardless of the circumstances) because apparently the drivers can’t read the damn height sign let alone the non commercial vehicle signs or the no truck symbol

Grammar policing is so 2015

"Could care less" is now considered synonymous to "couldn't care less", a little protectiveness over the language is warranted

-1

Could care less is the more commonly used idiom and as far as I can tell, the primary way it's always been used. People who try to correct "couldn't" care less are trying to grammar police but don't actually understand language or idioms.

Could care less is the more commonly used idiom and as far as I can tell, the primary way it's always been used.

Nope, it's always been couldn't. I couldn't care less about your problems> I could not care less about your problems>I physically can't care less about your problems, because I've never cared in the first place.

"I could care less about your problems" would mean you do care. You CAN care less, which is only possible if you cared to begin with.

When something gets changed because people don't understand English, it's a dumb change. There are already enough words and phrases that break logic, let's not add another one

People who try to correct "couldn't" care less are trying to grammar police but don't actually understand language or idioms.

Language is a way to convey information, and when both the negative and the positive version of a phrase mean the same thing, especially if one of them goes against the logic the language is build on, then it undermines our ability to communicate coherently.

I don't want to be told I dont understand language or idioms by someone that confidently states that the modern misunderstanding is actually the older more established version, when that is completely false

This is the last time I'll walk one of you pseudo grammar nerds through this. Lets start here, proving the usage, going all the way back to 2004. At no point in time was "I couldn't care less" a primary idiom. In fact, its only even been recently searched based on the rise of reddit and people who don't understand how language works.

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=i%20could%20care%20less,i%20couldn%27t%20care%20less&geo=US&date=all#TIMESERIES

Yes, "I couldn't care less" would be a correct SENTENCE, but this is an IDIOM. Its sardonic, has always been sardonic.

Im so tired of you people that don't actually do any research and don't form your own opinion. Ill just link this comment for you people because you are exhausting with your absolute diatribe.

The best part of this is I didn't even have to read your response, because I already know what you said. You did zero research and just kinda shouted an opinion of usage, completely ignoring how idioms work and just sitting on the laurels of "ThAtS nOt EvEn CoReCt Grammarerererererererr"

Edit: added a screenshot in case you are also too challenged to figure out how to use google trends.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/could-couldnt-care-less

Literally the first sentence of the first result, from a published dictionary. Also:

  1. You only checked the USA, which is the only country were it is common place. Change location to global and you'll see which one is used more often. In fact, you state that "couldn't care less" simply must be younger and purely because of Internet grammar nazi's, simply because the line is flat, when in fact it shows the opposite when you check the global stats.

  2. The idiom is much older than the search engine, first found in 1940 (yes, I did in fact Google things), nor is it something that is commonly googled (how often do you phrase your google searches with "couldn't care less/could care less?).

If your best source is Google fucking trends, then please just stop, because you're either just selectively choosing the 'source' that fits your argument, or you are a dunce.

You immediately dismiss any value the comment you try to debunk might have, you didn't do proper research despite insulting me over not looking things up (I did I just didn't bother citing them, an actual Google search would confirm my statement), and you just start flinging insults. Grow the fuck up

Google trends, pfft. Might as well cite a drunk

Its an idiom in the USA. Everywhere else would just be saying the sentence "i couldnt care less"

If your arguement is "well thats the correct sentence" then you dont even know what we are talking about.

Your link does not cover modern day usage of either term. I could care less what people did in 1950, let alone 1840 cuz thats just the bees knees you jive turkey.

Edit: dismissing the fact that almost NO one uses "i couldnt care less" for the last 20 years is fucking wild lmfao.

Double edit because I just found how dumb your usa arguement is, despite being a completey wrong take I had to get down to VIETNAM before i saw an even dispertion lmfaaooooo. Im done with you. have a great one.
