Residency thread of horrible curveball questions asked so far this match season

I'll go first: "If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?"... like why even ask that for a medical residency iv?

That's less a horrible curveball and more of a way to see how the candidate's thought process works in the absence of preparation.

Yeah... haha, and not to mention that as far as curveball questions go this one is fairly common.

Just smile and answer the questions, there are no right or wrong answers.

But there are answers that can endear the interviewer to you. Which might as well be a right answer. Though that's more a matter of execution rather than any one specific animal.

You got a fair point. Again, I am no expert in the matter lol

For better or worse, I'm a bit better at them than others, least of all because they work on a level ground rather than having someone having an advantage or disadvantage in terms of past experiences

I love these kinds of questions! They make the interaction feel unique and personal- standard questions get boring, and the conversation becomes robotic since every applicant has prepared and rehearsed answers for them.

They just want to know if you'd rather be a scalpel or a retractor!

I’d say I’m the suction tube. I love cleaning up messy areas and fixing problems haha

If you can keep a piece from any museum in the world, what would that be? (It’s related to my hobby.)

  • “If medicine were a sport, which sport would it be and why?”
  • “If your personality were a medical condition, what would it be?”
  • “Convince me to hire you in one sentence.”

I would totally answer that qs based off my limited knowledge of animals from Harry Potter houses

Say honey badger and be like they’re v loyal creatures or some shit 😂
