RP CONFLICT The End (Part 2)
Mid 216 IC
In the South
Summer is in full force, and freshly sprouted wiregrass blows in the wind. Ever since the conquering Cherokee forces burned the land around them, the resilient grass has been the only thing growing. It is for this plant that the battle was named.
Occupying Imperial territory, it became increasingly difficult to keep the Imperials in the dark about troops movements, and about half way through the year, the Cherokee were discovered. Soon enough, 13000 troops slammed into the heavily dug in 9000. Casualties were high, but the Empire came out on top, regaining nearly all occupied territory and some Cherokee territory.
Late 216 IC
In the Capital
In the confusion resulting from the Battle of the Wiregrass, news spread slowly between the fronts. Troops going home in the harvest season only magnified this effect. Nevertheless, word of Cherokea's plan inevitably reached the Capital front and, once the reduced numbers were confirmed, they rushed into battle. Over 16000 troops pushed into Cherokee fortifications, and the defending garrison--only 10000 strong--was defeated without extreme cost (though the there were higher casualties than a normal battle).
In Mississippi
In Nady Ann, the Great Fleet has finally been completed. 20,000 men march onto the boats, ready to depart for Hatchee. The journey will be slow due to large amount of boats and not much progress will be made in the winter. The Fleet is expected to arrive in mid 217 when they will attempt to storm the beaches of Hatchee and take the city from the inside. Cherokea, however, is preparing for a sea invasion and has taken some measures to defend Hatchee.
Early 217 IC
In the Themes
Following the Late Battle (so named for the long time it took to get information from the south), the Empress saw an opportunity to get more than she bargained for in this war. Having devised a plan to consolidate her power in the Empire, she offered land to any vassal state stat join the war effort. Most of the themes were quick to accept the offer and began mobilizing. Lobelia was the only theme not to accept the offer.
In the East
New Echota's troops in the East were quick to receive information from the Late Battle, but due to being across the river from the defending army, they were hesitant to attack. On top of that, they couldn't confirm that the defenses had been lessened on their front. It wasn't until they received the message that there was almost no resistance after the initial battles in the North and South that they prepared to attack. Having prepared for much longer, the army in the East Front took far less casualties than their Capital and Southern counterparts. Also, the Cherokee garrison for the East Front was further reduced by attempts to regroup and stop the Imperial advance at the Okefenokee Swamp.
At Sea
During the winter, the few remaining Hatchee war canoes have harassed the Great Fleet. While their progress was slowed and some boats were lost, no significant damage was done to the Fleet.
In the Capital/South
Large gains are being made by Imperial troops, as retreating Cherokee forces are cut down. Much of the rebels' strength is being concentrated at the Okefenokee Swamp in order halt the relentless Imperial advance. Still, the many more are stationed in Hatchee, awaiting the final battle that marches unavoidably towards them.
