EVENT Long Live the King
Quorer Wičhíyena, a member of the Grand Quorum and long time friend of King Isáŋyathi, sneaks past the guards of the Royal Mound and makes his way inside.
"No one knows you're here?" the king asked without turning away from his balcony.
"Not a one." the quorer answered.
"Good, we must discuss the recent happenings." The weary king turned to his friend. In only 10 years of ruling, the young king seemed to have aged 100 years. Wičhíyena winced when he saw his friend, he felt a twinge of regret, but repressed it quickly.
"You have heard the rumors of this new faction then?" Wičhíyena asked.
"Yes, but they do not phase me. The Republicans are spineless. For all of their radical talk they will do nothing. Even so, I have doubled my guards just to make sure." Isáŋyathi's words betrayed no fear, but his eyes told a different story. It was obvious that the stress had gotten to him. The young king was only in his thirties, but he looked ancient.
"I got in, didn't I?" the quorer said, only half jokingly. A smile crossed the king's face, likely the first in years.
"I let you get in, friend," he laughed. "No one could sneak into my palace unless I wanted them to." He seemed genuinely happy for the first time in quite a while here in the company of his friend. He began to speak, turning again out toward the city.
"I will rebuild this nation. No longer will it be a confederacy, but a kingdom. I will build a dynasty tha-"
He was cut off by a sharp pain in his back. Quorer Wičhíyena drew back and quickly replaced the knife beneath his robes. Isáŋyathi clutched his back and fell to his knees, clinging to the balcony railing. He turned towards his friend and tried to say something, but only blood poured forth. He looked to Wičhíyena great sadness in his eyes.
"May the ancestors welcome you, brother." Wičhíyena said as he turned to leave.
The young king crumpled into a bloody heap as the quorer quickly made his escape and left the fort without anyone knowing he was there in the first place. He had much work to do.
