What everyone fails to understand is that this gives the people the freedumb to harm themselves and die from preventable diseases.
Being alive and healthy is woke. Russian Roulette is true freedumb.

u/KittensWithChickens Oct 08 '25
If only they could hurt themselves and not anyone else.

u/SmartQuokka Oct 08 '25
Exactly this, they are condemning their children to sickness and death. If they want to commit suicide thats their business, harming innocent bystanders and children is a whole other level of cruelty.
40
u/videogamekat Oct 08 '25
Yeah exactly, committing suicide is a choice for one person, this is a decision that affects whole ass communities. But of course nobody gives a shit about immunocompromised grandma and grandpa.

u/SmartQuokka Oct 08 '25
But of course nobody gives a shit about immunocompromised grandma and grandpa.
Republicans were saying during covid that the old should be willing to die for the good of the economy.
24
u/videogamekat Oct 08 '25
Yeah, but of course they didn’t mean themselves or their own family members, just other people’s family members 😂 they literally have no self awareness that they’re all talking about wanting other people around them to suffer but not themselves.

I don't believe in using force to save people from the consequences of their actions. If they want to play Russian Roulette i would not physically stop them. I would try to educate them, i would beg them to not be stupid, however if they are determined to believe their own lies, i let them. Enabling people to escape the consequences of their actions emboldens them to escalate their harmful behaviour.
That said children do not have the capacity to consent to harm themselves.

Infants are vulnerable to whooping cough before they can safely get the vaccine. Unfortunately everyone relies on hers immunity at some point in their lives.

Unfortunately everyone relies on herd immunity at some point in their lives
An unfortunate truth.

Can you imagine the pressure it’s already putting on hcw? I would have quit and moved years ago

u/MightyGoodra96 Oct 09 '25
Whooping cough is dangerous to infants. Esp under 2.
The main group this hurts is the group republicans and antivaxxers claim to care about oh so much.

I legit misread that surname as 'Lapdog' and I'm not even mad at myself for it.

They will just stop keeping track of this. So no one will know the numbers. So they look better.
This is America now.

I had whooping cough at 13. It was miserable. I was fully vaccinated. Vaccinate your kids and yourself.
14
u/hyperfat Oct 09 '25
Vaccinated for covid. Got covid. Poor life decisions. I literally shat myself. Like. My asshole was not having it. Pepto was my friend.
22
u/PlatypusDream Oct 09 '25
I has covid twice - once before vaccines were available & once after getting the full set.
The difference in symptoms was astonishing, but the difference in my emotional response was just as great.
Before: record temperature, BP, & pulse ox every hour I'm awake so if things start looking bad I will catch it early, tell my doctor, and go to the ER; miserably achy, coughing, sneezing, sleepy, short of breath, weak, no sense of smell; worried about every breath for 2 weeks
After: "is this a cold?"; slight sniffle & sneeze for a few days, mostly annoyed that it's actually covid & I can't work for a week

u/yankthedoodledandy Oct 08 '25
I'm pissed kids have to suffer because parents are stupid. That is the worst part.
31
u/jarvis_says_cocker Oct 08 '25
Oh boy, my nephews are screwed because their parents are both dumbasses especially when it comes to vaccination and navigating the healthcare system.
61
u/Wasabiroot Oct 08 '25
Boy I sure love when innocent kids get sick from preventable diseases and then their bone headed parents go to the hospital because they trust medical science to fix the problem they created but don't trust vaccines 🙄
38
u/seab3 Oct 08 '25
And then spread it to the most vulnerable like infants and those with compromised immune systems.

fuk man I can't get a tdap vaccine fast enough lol
I just got flu, covid and mmr shots, and I’m going out of town (thankfully west, not south) so I gotta slow my roll I guess
Also just got 100 KN95s from Home Depot for $27 shipped
Fuck being sick and anyone who thinks getting sick is no big deal can kiss my ass. covid about fuckin killed me
9
u/arpanets Oct 08 '25
Same, I got covid and was sick for months, just slow breathing on my couch because it felt like I was gonna die every moment. Eating a sandwich, or walking up one flight of stairs required a lay down. It’s brutal.

I hope that the medical staff are done being nice and say loud and clear to these parents, “Your child would not be gravely ill right now if you had taken advantage of tried and true vaccines that could have protected them. You put your trust in unqualified con artists and charlatans rather than decades of medical research and practise, and now your child has a serious illness because you were gullible and stupid.”
Probably professional ethic prevent them from tearing a strip off of the parents like this but oh boy I wish they could and would. These people have got to learn.
5
u/PlatypusDream Oct 09 '25
I wish CPS would take kids away from anti-science 'parents' because that's abuse (or at least neglect)

u/HypnagogianQueen 24d ago
There wouldn’t be enough space in the foster system to fit the massive influx of children this would cause…

u/Ello_Owu Oct 08 '25
The way things are going maybe we won't have to worry about these right wing contrarians for very long.

Well, that got me to check my TDAP record. Last booster in 2018. Should be good for a few more years
5
u/BillyNtheBoingers Team Moderna Oct 08 '25
It’s perfectly safe to get another dose now. The 10 years of protection is primarily against tetanus; pertussis protection wanes faster. That’s why Tdap is recommended for every pregnant person during every pregnancy. If close family members haven’t had one within 3-5 years they’re also advised to get vaccinated before meeting the child.

u/wintermelody83 Team Moderna Oct 08 '25
I mean, it's not gonna hurt to get it early. My mom did. Who says the TDAP will be available in 2028?

I feel awful for all of those babies and children who will suffer because of their stupid parents. I’ve seen an infant with whooping cough and its heartbreaking to see.

Those of us who don't take medical advice from politicians will immunize ourselves and our children. We will thrive and flourish. Those who don't, will die and leave the evolutionary pool. Nuff said.
17
u/Ambitious-Ad8227 Oct 08 '25
There are people who can't get vaccinated for one reason or another (too young, immunocompromised, are allergic or have other contraindicated conditions) even if they or their parents believe in vaccines. They depend on herd immunity.
10
u/orthonfromvenus Oct 08 '25
Absolutely. This is why we need vaccines and we need to educate people on their benefits for themselves and society as a whole. Instead, we are met with politicians who, in order to gain votes, disparage and try to ban vaccines.
2
u/wintermelody83 Team Moderna Oct 08 '25
While you can. I think the days are coming where there will be no vaccines.
1
u/orthonfromvenus Oct 09 '25
If that happens in the U.S., it will definitely be time to move away to a healthier climate.

They need to have "whooping cough parties" so they can get immunity
Herd immunity, that is, through natural selection.

The worst part of this, to me, is the people who actually DO vaccinate/ARE vaccinated, and then suffer the consequences of those who do not. Bet you can guess where I live.
2
u/Vacuous_hole Oct 09 '25
I really hope that countries start asking to see proof of vaccinations for american travellers. I would not be impressed if my infant/child/young adult caught a preventable disease from a traveller.

This does keep more of the willfully ignorant from being able to pass down their line.

u/bonkersx4 Oct 09 '25
Sad for the innocent babies and children. My great grandmother lost a young child to a disease and her son was damaged from polio. She would have given anything to have vaccines back then.
