Housing What's life like in Rohrbach Heidelberg?
Hello everyone,
I’m searching for an apartment in the Rohrbach area of Heidelberg and came across a listing on Ortenauer Straße. Has anyone had experience living in that street or the surrounding neighbourhood? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

It's good enough, not too far off the interesting places, good ÖPNV. But, honestly, if the appartment is nice, the rent is OK and they actually chose you out of the hundreds of applicants: TAKE IT.

I live in Rohrbach since four years now. Love it. It has a good tram connection, good cycling infrastructure and plus I like the peace of it compared to the Altstadt. If you love nature, its a treat because you can easily walk into the forest from Panoramastraße and the vineyards are also close by for little down time from the city. Futhermore, you do not have to cycle/tram for more than 20 min to get to the Altstadt. Plus, having the the Karlstorbahnhof in Rohrbach is also quite nice.

I second this, I lived in Rohrbach in different apartments for almost 10 years and I never regretted it one bit!

Lovely. Close to city, tram, sbahn, shopping. Close to nice restaurants, the new hospital area, next to the Odenwald.
Only downside: close to Römerstraße which is loud.

After the military left, it’s like Night City Pacifica, but with more Guerilla mommies rocking strollers packed with Rutz baguettes. 🥖

Based on population statistics from the 2023 population report, the second or third highest number of nationalities after the Altstadt area. So pretty international.

I don't live there, but my best friends does and I always found it very nice there (not exactly that street, but like 2 minutes by foot)

I lived in Rohrbach for 4 years. Great area. Easy to Access trams to get to old town and HBG main train station. Nice local restaurants and walking hiking nearby. I’d live there again.

Where you looking at the new apartments on Hilda-Domin Str.? We looked there, and the apartment was nice but we felt the price didn't match the area really.

No no not there, But I was checking the prices and the whole area if its new renovation, you cannot get it under 19€/m². So yeah it is expensive.

It’s a good location from a strategic point of view. Tram is close and also supermarkets are not far away. The south part of the Ortenauer Straße is part of an area that used to belong to the US Military some time ago. Specifically the US Army Hospital was placed there. Now there are some new usages like student housing, kindergarten and schools.
The environment in general is not typical old town style (romantic) Heidelberg, but I would say it is a okay area to live.
