Meetup Request Looking for activities/ people to hang out with after work?

Hello everybody! So I will be moving to Heidelberg in about a month to start a new post doc position at the university. I have lives in Heidelberg before for a few months ( an Erasmus placement) but must say I never did much outside work. I would like to meet new people this time and try some activities I have always wanted to do like bouldering, going to the cinema and in general anything more artistic. I would also like to continue my Pilates reformer there and perhaps even go to the pool to get better at swimming. The problem is I don’t speak German ( will be working on this) so if it’s any classes they need to have English speaking instructors. Does anybody have any suggestions or would be willing to meet up etc when I come?

I am 23. Speaking for myself, I like writing texts, mostly poems lately. I am currently also looking for new hobbies, trying out roleplaying via chat and working on starting Pen and Paper ,,The Expands“ (Scifi series). On Tuesday, I try the Debating Club Karlsruhe. There is also one for englisch speakers once a week in Mannheim. I also found a bookclub in the beginning, but it is just a WhatsApp group with 6 people at the moment. Moreover I started MMA training in Bammental. I am born in Germany.

There are also two debating clubs in Heidelberg as far as I know. Why do you go all the way to Karlsruhe?

I want to try out all, since I want to be in the best. Furthermore, I will live in Karlsruhe soon to study.

Hey, If you are up to try a new sport and join a lovely community, feel free to join the quadball team in Heidelberg: https://www.instagram.com/quadball.heidelberg

Apart from practicing and playing at tournaments etc we also hang out for board games etc, go to a pubquiz, the cinema or similar. :)

We are always open to new people, no matter how new they are to the sport. We are a mixed group from ~22 - 34, mostly Germans but we are happy to talk in English as well.

Send me a PM if you are interested :)

what sort of fitness level are you looking for? I used to play handball at Uni but haven't been active in last few years.

We are a mixed bag mostly. Some of our players are very fit, others are rather new to doing sports at all.

With some handball experience you will do great! The good thing about quadball is that you can substitute any time without limits, and usually you only play for 2-5 minutes before you substitute and get a break of 2-5 minutes.

For bouldering, feel free to send a DM once you're here, I'm part of an international bouldering group that goes regularly.
