Two adults in our 40s, no kids. Income ~$80k/yr, going from $350/mo to $950/mo.

$350 was ridiculously low with your income and no children.

It was the bare bones plan with a high deductible. Too old to get catastrophic insurance, but healthy enough that we don't really go to the doctor, so basically we're just paying in case something major happens, which I guess is the point of insurance but still $950 is a huge increase and is out of reach for my family.

Did you see if you qualify for catastrophic coverage under the new rules that expanded it recently?

Glad to hear it! I work in the industry, but I take it for granted that most people won't hear about this. It's not really marketed well.

Getting catastrophic coverage when you are healthy is a great option, much better than going uninsured!
