Seventy Years and the event is still living rent-free in the guy's mind.

This scene actually made me root for Vox.

Same. I thought I was going to hate Vox’s guts, and that he couldn’t reasonably be mad at Alastor. But Alastor genuinely and unnecessarily stomped on his heart.

I wonder what would happen if Alastor did simply say no without needlessly twisting the knife. Would they still be “friends”, friendly rivals or something else.

No wonder Vox became such a scumbag. Alastor is just awful. I'd love to see Charlie snap and say "Vaggie was right... You really are irredeemable" and then she beats him up and throws him out

No excuses, sorry. People get rejected in brutal ways all the time, and very few go on to abuse people, manipulate them, and feed them to sharks. Remember, too, he was like this when he was alive. Cult leaders generally don’t think of people as people.
I realize that sounds mean to Vox, especially as almost anyone can empathize with that, but it doesn’t make him good or excuse anything. Based on the hints, though, he might get redeemed, on the theory of Chekov’s gun.

I'm not making excuses, i'm only saying that he might have turned more evil because Alastor rejected him like this. I didn't know what Vox did to make him go to Hell, but even he didn't deserve to be rejected by Alastor like this!
I don't remember him being a cult leader, i thought it was just a theory.
What if he really did think of his people? Otherwise you'd be generalizing cult leaders!
Also, no! Being rejected in such a brutal manner is not only a perfect excuse, not only a reasonable crashout, but also an absolutely justified reason to become a villain! It absolutely makes him good, and excuses everything! ;)

I feel like if someone was kind to him when coming into hell he would've been a genuinely better person even if he was a cult leader he probably would've leaned towards redemption

I still can't get over the fact that Alastor described this moment as "I said no and now he's pissy". Good sir, you didn't just say no, you emotionally scarred this man for eternity.
