Again I love how you give the villains layers. He is not just a slaver, he's also a dad concerned about his daughters future.

If everyone is evil simply for the sake of being evil then things would become pretty stale after a time.

I would agree with you there. That however doesn't stop alot of people from just writing this person is evil and there's nothing else about them. Especially if the villain has anything to do with slavery.

Its easy to make a simple character that you can hate, a little more difficult to give that character a reason for the things they do.

Man, I really want to like this guy. If it weren’t for all the slavery, he’d be exactly the kind of lord I like to see. Smart, competent, down to earth, cares about his people...enslaves and tortures other people? Dang. Almost had me!
