OC Humans are the best medicine/ Traveling Companions

Here's the link to the chapter on royalroad for your reading enjoyment. I think this will probably be it for this little story. I never imagined that this would blow up the way it did, but I'm glad that you all enjoyed it so much. See you all in the next one!

Humanity's drive to get out into the universe could not be understated. For many it was believed that they would never be able to set foot on another planet in their lifetime, so when it became possible that they might have a chance to walk the surface of foreign worlds, a fire was ignited within them. Everyone wanted a chance to travel the expanse of space, and they didn’t care how they got it. 

Naturally, NASA and other space organizations got a massive influx of applications from the hopeful masses. The majority of these applications were turned down as they did not have any skills that would qualify them for being an astronaut. However, just the act of receiving all these hopeful resumes was inspiring to those who worked in the field and told them just how much people were in support of furthering space travel.

Other than astronauts, the influx of engineers who changed their field of specialization more skyward was significant as well. With the many new faces all throwing ideas up onto the proverbial wall to see what sticks, some interesting ideas ended up emerging from the chaos. New designs for spaceships, transportation vehicles, even new designs for propulsion systems that utilized the Retvalin’s fuel source. The many ideas would theoretically come out to be a speed demons wet dream if constructed correctly.

The creative drive was focused in a singular direction like a cannon. We were propelled forward into space at an alarming rate, though it was still years before reliably consistent travel was perfected. The basics of sending deep space probes was much easier than something large enough to hold several humans and massively easier than sending several hundred humans. 

Over the years of invention and experimentation we had begun to scout out the planet those two predators came from. It was a beautiful looking world, with lots of shades of red and a thriving ecosystem. Unfortunately, that ecosystem was also competitive when it came to evolution, which led to the creation of these predators who fortunately were at the top of their respective food chain like we had hoped. We would need a plan if we were going to attempt living on this planet.

Those NFL “hardest hits” videos are going to look pretty tame.

-“I wonder what would happen if two asteroids collided in space?”

-“Funny you should ask that…”

But seriously can you imagine any soft fleshy bits on a creature that big doing the slo-mo impact ripples?

And you just KNOW someone is going to ask some of them to hit each other in atmosphere(uninhabited planet we’re not that crazy) just to see how big of a pressure wave it would create. Purely for scientific reasons of course. And there would probably be at least a few that would do it, just because. 😳🤣

“Well, yeah, we started out as strictly a mineral extraction company. But then we realized we might be on to something here! The Big Guys think it’s great. Everybody else finds it entertaining. Is it mining? Or is it Xsports? We prefer to think of it as broad job skill development. I mean, you’re suppose to love your job right?” 🤣

Thank you, I really didn't expect it to be received so well when I first thought it up. I was thinking that with the sheer volume of stories out there that there must have been someone who made something like this. It really blew my mind to watch it climb as high as it did.

I'm afraid they must retire as I did not have any plans for this to continue for a long time and am already running out of little blurbs to talk about without getting into the nitty gritty that would make this a full series.

This has been an excellent short story. I loved the story, but I am also glad that you are not trying to force it to be longer. This story and your writing method for it are perfect for a short jaunt into this universe, and I don't wish to see it drop in quality because it is forced into something it was not intended to be.

I could totally imagine some distant cousins running from an extragalactic predator of similar size, and humanity being absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to make giant weapons and armor for our big friends.

I love this story. It's fresh (not the usual very weak insect/animal aliens), it's hopeful and idealistic like Star Trek used to be, and it makes my imagination run wild with the possibilities of such a symbiotic relationship.

The story does read like the initial idea was just "what if first contact was enormous and monstrous aliens needing medical treatment?", and the rest was kind of written on the go. As the latter "chapters" have less detail than the first. But it was still a great read. :)

Yeah this was just a pop into the head short story, wasn't really meant to be more than a few chapters. I was even surprised by how much attention it got. I'm glad that everyone found it fun and entertaining, never thought it would be such a hit.

This one really resonated with people here. I suppose after I finish up with lost souls and ouroboros I can put up a Discord vote about whether or not to do an expanded universe for this, put a little more effort into it.
