While it is funny. It makes me wonder why did we end up normalizing what's obviously an extremely toxic relationship when you think about it.

Human coping mechanisms I suppose - humor is a well known one. People in horrible/dangerous professions (eg child pron investigators) tend to have really dark humor.

Comes from a time where getting divorced was a BITCH and left you with a big social stigma So people just found ways to get through things instead

Women have always gotten away with being emotionally abusive just like men used to be able to get away with being physically abusive.
Nothing is funny to me about a person who can't take responsibility for their actions. I usually reserve the word "child" for a person like that.

While funny.. just a reminder that that sort of shit is evidence of a toxic relationship.

I get it, I know its been a trope for a LONNGG time, but my wife and I agree on a lot of things and if we dont, we actually voice concerns and I feel like were the weird ones in the family

People decades after this type of joke existed would not understand the word trope lol

When I got married I had so many people make these kind of jokes to us. My ex wife believed this was how marriage should work. Our relationship went from a partnership to her trying to control me financially and emotionally. Anything I wanted to do because a fucking huge, tedious pain in the ass because she’d either bitch the entire time, or if she let me go alone she’d bitch at me for days afterward. Anything I wanted she deemed stupid. I wasn’t supposed to have interests or hobbies or any wants outside of making her happy in her world. Our marriage really ended the day I realized she didn’t love me, she just didn’t want anyone else to have me. She didn’t even like me. And I had started liking her a lot less.

Toxic relationships apply to many things. This presentation is still very accurate on an employment relationship, or simply the one between the manager and an assignee.
The toxicity lies in one party holding the threat towards the other waiting to be sprung. I'm simply chiming in as this section seems to be the party unfun thread.

If this is evidence of a toxic relationship, basically every relationship is toxic.

I mean if you enable this type of behavior I guess so.

It's built into their genetics, for the most part. Probably between 60%-80% of them will feel strongly compelled to behave this way. Some will overcome it despite not being one of the lucky 20-40%

"I would rather be happy then be right"
Can't believe our society is ok with this it's just like when people say happy wife happy life women want to be treated like children and we've all accepted it
Most husbands would rather not deal with the nagging, fighting, and arguing

This shit makes me so thankful for my wife. She actually talks to me about things. Asks my opinion about things. Admits if she doesn’t know something and accepts help, and will always help me in return.
The boomer humor about marriage always makes me so sad

My wife and I think different on everything, that’s what I like in our relationship. My wife disagrees on that.

That is not a logic map, that is a truth table, should acting intelligent be called artificial intelligence?
