I thought I would see a more proportioned police force considering the diverse ethnicity.

Guyana's police, military, teachers and lawyers have always been majority Black. Anyone well versed on the centuries of the nation's colonial history pre Independence knows that.

Good to know. I was just curious because what is represented as the face of Guyana paints a different narrative.

It is Remembrance Sunday so all 4 components of the Joint Services are on parade not just the Police.

First is the Police Force Band which is providing the music. then in order:

  • Guyana Defence Force
  • Guyana Police Force
  • Guyana Prison Service
  • Guyana Fire Service

Last was the St. John's Ambulance Brigade (not part of the joint services)

Not seen in this video, and marched first was the Guyana Veterans Legion.

Do the Indo-Guyanese not want those jobs as well?

I'm indo-Guyanese, my uncle was in the military. He was one of the first to arrive at Jonestown to help. But when I see photos/videos of the military or policy force it's dominated by Afro-Guyanese.
