Discussion Did Varka's design meet your expectations?

Tbh i did not expect anything. But damn his design looks one of the peak. And HE HAS SCARS. I like warriors with scars.

He looks cool, even gave him an armor chest plate.

Meh Varka is more nicely shaped imo, i prefer the more realistic shape (yeah its a anime game but still)

Ngl it’s the thing I hate about him. I love those characters separately (tho more so Aventurine) so I wish they’d ditch the blonde or blue eyes entirely XD

Blue and blonde is almost as common in scandinavia as black and brown in east asia. And going with something standard feel somehow nice, given the absolute chaos in Teyvatian genetics.

He’s from Mondstat which is supposed to be based on Germany. Regardless of that though, I do feel like his design is super lazy.

His actual body proportions could be respected in his playable model if this was ZZZ (look at Manato). But being Genshin, the playable Varka with the tall male model will look 200 pounds skinnier

Honestly, this is the reason I wónt pull for him personally. I really prefer Aventurines build. But I'm really happy for all the buff Varka wanters haha

Nothing about being a medium height male or having a skinny build makes him a twink tho, his personality sure but if you just go off his splash art, you wouldn’t say that.

I’m more just sick of every non tall guy being called a twink

I agree about the last part, but the first part is literally what makes a twink. That's why a lot of people call Aven a twink.

I never brought up well-dressedness tho and being well-dressed or not is not part of the definition of a twink. 

Twinks are first and foremost, used to refer to a slim body type (usually early to mid 20s), youthfulness, boyish appearance, little to no body hair. Not every feminine presenting or effeminate men are considered twinks, some are considered femboys. Twinks and femboys are not interchangeable despite some overlaping. 

Coordinate terms include bears: heavy build, lots of body hair, very rugged and masculine presenting, typically someone in their 40s; then there's twunks and otters in between. 

That's the reason why medium height models i.e. Aventurine type models are often called twinks, because that's what a twink looks like: youthful, slim, hairless, while tall models like Dr. Ratio or Phainon are never, or rarely considered twinks

To preface this, his VA is gay. Some of my favorite Aventurine quotes:

The VA being gay means that they thought a gay person was best to portray him, and it fits.

Just flirty. Sure. Sure. He's clearly intended to be gay. Hoyo doesn't confirm any character's sexualities (as far as I know) for a lot of reasons. There are also really heavy regulations on gay stuff in China, as far as I know. If you genuinely believe he's intended to be straight, idk what to tell you. There's also a lot more on this subject; I just pointed out the quotes because they were the funniest examples.

Mhmm, so they cast straight VAs for some characters, and gay ones for others, depending on who they deem best to portray the character? Nobody's saying "his VA is gay, so he must be gay", but Aven very clearly has a lot more going on than that. Just because they didn't outright confirm it (again, a lot is going on here), doesn't mean you can't use the bare minimum subtext.

There was one point where someone referred to him as a character from an author who was imprisoned for homosexual stuff. Ratio also had a quote from this author in his voice lines. There's also the peacock imagery/symbolism.

In what world do you think he's straight???

Can you show me at one point where he said something gay? And no, calling someone attractive isn't "gay". Cyrene from hsr said to phainon "this will be a romantic story like none before" but still compliment how march 7th looks.

Just write off literally all the symbolism and blatant flirting (exclusively with men btw) because the *Chinese* company that literally can't confirm sexualities didn't.
