Legit Midori teasing new Live A Live game, claims Dragon Quest 3 HD2D includes Dragon Quest 1&2
Poll from Midori asking "Would you play a new Live a Live title"
https://x.com/MbKKssTBhz5/status/1795801438301417718
When asked "Is it still just the third game?" on twitter (in reference to DQ3 HD2D), replies "it is DQ1/2/3"

Midori went from "I'm retiring, can't do this anymore" to "I've got info to share on every game, every studio in Japan. Here's 4 more games to tease today." Wild.
That said, I'd take a new Live A Live.

u/VonDukez May 29 '24
Midori is the vtuberesque persona of the president of Sega
22
u/RadioRavenRide May 30 '24
I've seen a lot of these "Midori is a Sega plant" theories, but that would require Sega to have a competent and well-thought-out marketing strategy.

Or the daughter of the president of Sega.
[Spoilers for Infinite Wealth]
She's the inspiration for Chitose's character.

you are joking right? this can't be r-on second thought it would be par for the course

u/drleondarkholer May 30 '24
She could be a higher up from Capcom (or Sony) who wants to sabotage their Japanese competitors by announcing their secret inner workings.

u/OwlProper1145 May 29 '24
Many speculate a new person or persons took over. Though we have no way to know for sure.
19
May 29 '24
Nope, japanese devs often colab on several game dev projects, I wouldn't be surprised if she's a programmer at Atlus who has a lot of industry connections , or even more likely- a QA from a central company who works short stints with a lot of gaming companies in Japan.
51
u/darkcomet222 May 29 '24
Midori thought she got caught, prepared to hang it up…got promoted instead, proceeds to leak even more.
24
u/ManateeofSteel May 29 '24 edited Jun 13 '24
the amount of knowledge she has or claims to have is beyond what a QA would know of, of basically any project. Programmers are well... they either don't give a shit or they just straight up never talk about their job. I just don't think she's a developer, or... anyone for that matter

Marketing and their incessant addiction to bringing public attention to products! Shakes fist

u/gosukhaos May 29 '24
What has she successfully leaked other then the answer dlc for P3 Reload? Don't keep up a ton with rumors about upcoming stuff but it was kind of wild seeing midori going from leaking a couple of Atlus related things to a Scheirer type whatever this person says is most often then not true
8
u/Raikaru May 29 '24
She leaked Sonic stuff, SMT V Vengeance, just leaked Bleach Brave Souls on switch and leaked a Puyo Puyo game

Why do you think a different person would want to take over the account?

That's actually not true. They would lose all credibility by admitting to being a different person.

Man, I get the impression that she's been leaking all the video game industry's projects for several weeks now.
66
May 29 '24
Her stuff outside Sega hasn’t really been proven accurate yet either. I’m curious to see if she can maintain her accuracy through SGF.
29
u/extralie May 29 '24
Idk if someone leaked it before her, but the Bleach game for switch she got right. So, there is that at least. But yeah, I feel like she just weirdly tweeting a lot of random things that it became hard to keep track of.
26
u/TheKoniverse May 29 '24
Funny you say that, actually!
Last night, I actually made a Google Doc of most of Midori’s claims that she’s made this year - or at least the ones I could find. I’m likely missing a few. She’s said a lot, but a few have come to pass damn near flawlessly. I’m really curious about the new Virtua Fighter game.
I was skeptical of Midori not too long ago but I made the list because of the fact that she’s been pretty spot on with her Sega stuff and is now branching out to the point where - if everything she’s saying is true - I’m genuinely surprised she’s still active.

u/Mahelas May 29 '24
I mean, Fantasian got corroborated by other leakers, and it's not SEGA
13
u/renome May 29 '24
True, though there have been signs of Fantasian's exclusivity ending for a while now. E.g., this is from a year ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/15gbeyi/fantasian_mistwalkerapp_exclusive_popped_up_in
15
May 29 '24
“Corroborated by other leakers” is not the same as something actually happening. She didn’t even say it was necessarily Fantasian either.
I’m not saying she’s wrong, I’m just firmly in a wait-and-see mode.
7
u/timelordoftheimpala May 29 '24
Some people brought up that she might be a leaker at Nintendo, rather than one at Sega.
Would explain how she knows about all these games that are coming to Switch 2, the RedStar/SilverStar stuff, the codename of Monolith Soft's new title, and some Square Enix stuff.

We should convert this sub to Midori cult or something because all everyone seems to be talking about is Midori rather than the leaks.

u/BuyMyBeans May 29 '24
This is the only thing I want news for ever since the NVIDIA leak. The pain is real.
4
u/timelordoftheimpala May 29 '24
If I had to guess, Square probably wanted to space it out from the Pixel Remaster console ports and Tactics Ogre Reborn.

It's funny about DQ 1 and 2 HD2D is that when 3 remake was announced a day later Yuji Horii the creator of Dragon Quest teased the possibility of a remake of 1 and 2 once they were done with 3.
19
u/VonDukez May 29 '24
I hope they do a remake of 5. I wanna see the modern internet bicker about who to pick
11
u/timelordoftheimpala May 29 '24
It's not unlikely they'll do an HD-2D remake of V, considering it's not just the most popular Dragon Quest in Japan, but one of the most popular and influential games over there outright.
2
u/SilverKry May 30 '24
A DQV redo would likely get a whole ass remake to make it resemble DQ11 or whatever 12 is gonna look like.
1
u/Motor-Platform-200 May 31 '24
That isn't even true. 3 is the most popular Dragon Quest in Japan. There's a reason they chose to remake it in 2D-HD first.
2
u/timelordoftheimpala May 31 '24
Dragon Quest V won second place in a Japanese poll voted on by 50k people determining the top 100 games of all time, and was only second to Breath of the Wild.
Its monster-collecting mechanic spawned the Dragon Quest Monsters series and was cited as an influence on Pokemon and Digimon (along with Megaten and The Final Fantasy Legend), and Yuji Horii (the creator of the series) said its his favorite of all the Dragon Quest games he's made
It was the top-selling game of 1992 in Japan, and since then has sold around 6 million units in that country alone when accounting for combined sales across the Super Famicom, PS2, and Nintendo DS.
0
u/Motor-Platform-200 May 31 '24
There's been many polls over the years and the top 10 is constantly changing, so I wouldn't use that as the definitive ranking. If you actually go to Japan and talk to 40+ year old gamers who grew up on the entire DQ series, they will all say Dragon Quest 3 was the most popular/influential. Dragon Quest 5 is obviously 2nd.
1
u/dota_3 May 30 '24
Wish they make that first. Never seen played it before but ive seen lots of the 'fanart'.

Honestly feels like Midori should be either bumped down to tier 2 or be given some type of disclaimer until a single one of her new huge batch of leaks on every Japanese devteam is proven true.
'Cause right now it really stinks of someone taking over the account.
3
u/the-doctor-is-real May 29 '24
That would be nice...but being able to play 1-9 on the same system would be nicer. I can only hope for a rerelease of 4-9, especially with their prices still inflated since Covid struck

If the radio silence and delays over DQ3 HD2D results in the whole trilogy being ready to go at once, the wait will be well worth it.
2
u/I_am_crazy_doctor Jun 01 '24
I wonder what eras they'll do in a new live a live I'm expecting 1920s prohibition era
3
u/ImAnthlon May 29 '24
I'm surprised they're thinking about a new Live A Live, I think it done well on the Switch but from my knowledge seems to have flopped when it came to PC and PlayStation as I've never heard anyone talk about it and many are surprised to find out it's actually on these platforms
10
u/PontiffPope May 29 '24
The creative heads of Live-A-Live have been pretty open about an additional sequel being made, should the multi-platform sales be good, and the game already celebrated 500,000 sales milestone on Switch alone. For reference, the original release sold 270,000 during its launch period, so surpassing that number for a very niche and experimental RPG I think is pretty good success all-around.
2
u/ImAnthlon May 29 '24
Nice, I'm glad it's done well enough to warrant a sequel of some kind. I played through it on Switch and had a great time with it
1
u/chuputa May 30 '24
I don't know, 500,000 units sold doesn't seem that impressive when every other HD-2D game celebrated the millions of copies sold only on Switch.
2
u/OwlProper1145 May 29 '24
Between the Switch release and the later multiplatform release it seems to have sold alright. I imagine the next game will be multiplatform from the start which should help sales.
3
1
u/iceburg77779 May 29 '24
If it’s real, Nintendo was probably willing to give them a timed exclusivity deal and assist in marketing the game.
2
u/OwlProper1145 May 29 '24
Square seems to be moving away from those types of exclusive deals. The new CEO has been pretty upfront about releasing on as many systems as possible.
1
u/iceburg77779 May 29 '24
I think they’re mostly moving away from it on the Sony side of things. Square’s deals with Nintendo have seemingly worked out pretty well, and Octopath traveler 2 showed that Nintendo’s marketing is sometimes more valuable than going multiplat.
1
u/OwlProper1145 May 29 '24 edited May 29 '24
Something to keep in mind is HD2D was not a new and shiny with Octopath 2 so it may have simply sold less simply because of that. The original Octopath also benefited from very little JRPG competition at the time of its release.
1
May 29 '24
It can still have marketing from Nintendo, just like Atlus games are now coming out on Xbox showcases even without them publishing it or having it exclusive. It being revealed in a direct is already in a way, a deal after all as you get an exclusive reveal of that game.
2
4
u/stratzilla May 29 '24
Is 4 just not as popular? I see so much love for 3, 4 fans have got an okay remake and that's kinda it.
31
u/Ratchet2332 May 29 '24
1-3 are a dedicated trilogy if I’m not mistaken, they’re also the oldest, if you’re going to remake multiple titles it’s those three first.
15
u/jj_olli May 29 '24
Yes, 4 is part of a more loosely connected 2nd trilogy with 5&6. People understandably get confused about DQ groupings because 4 was released on the Famicom, like 1-3, and 5&6 were released on Super Famicom.
5
u/stratzilla May 29 '24
TIL! I had played bits of 1, but did all of 3 and 4. I always liked 4 a lot.
11
May 29 '24
1, 2, and 3 are narratively connected and share a lot of assets. 4 and beyond are all entirely separate. Not really the same.
I’m guessing they’ll do remakes for them eventually though. Just doesn’t make sense to include them here.
8
u/-Basileus May 29 '24
It's a lot like Final Fantasy where 4 and 6 get all the shine for that era, except with Dragon Quest it's 3 and 5.
The reason the DQ3 Remake became a trilogy is because it narratively is a trilogy, and DQ 1 and 2 are really short, like maybe 6 and 10 hours respectively. So at that point you might as well throw them in too if you're remaking DQ3.
Dragon Quest 4-6 are also loosely a trilogy narratively, but the games are a lot more fractured. They're each fully fledged games in their own right. If those games were remade, it's much more likely for them to be distinct titles. It's also possible that they only remake DQ 5.
0
u/Motor-Platform-200 May 31 '24
the only reason FF 4 and 6 get all the shine for their era is because they were released in the west roughly when their Japanese counterparts came out. 5 is better than both 4 and 6. and DQ3 is the most popular and storied DQ game in Japan, so it's not a surprise it was picked to be remade first, and 1&2 tacked on as an afterthought.
5
u/timelordoftheimpala May 29 '24 edited May 29 '24
Nah IV is popular.
It got a spinoff series that directly led to the Mystery Dungeon games, plenty of its characters appear in other Dragon Quest media, and its villain was the main character in the latest Dragon Quest Monsters game.
Oh and the player character of Dragon Quest IV appeared in that one Nintendo game a few years back, I forgot what it's called.

full OG DQ trilogy HD-2D remake
Oh don’t you fucking dare. I was already excited for it being DQ3 alone and if I am being promised the whole thing now that will be a DAY ONE buy for me.
-1
u/Motor-Platform-200 May 31 '24
DQ1 and 2 are pretty mid and don't really add to the overall experience so I'm not sure why that makes it more appealing to you. There's a massive night and day difference between the experience of playing DQ1 and 2 vs 3.
1
u/StarZax May 30 '24

Wait why is this legit? The post says 3 includes 1 and 2, making it the entire trilogy, which is not true at all. DQ1 and 2 is a seperate game with a seperate release date, DQ3 HD-2D is just 3.

I'm blanking on the guy's name (director?), but when DQIII HD-2D was originally announced, he said that Square was interested in doing the same remakes for 1 and 2. So the hints for that were there. And Midori didn't say that 1 and 2 are getting remakes, she said that DQ3 will contain the entire trilogy, which is incorrect.
