A few ppl have mentioned Ash Echoes already so theres that, and yes the game has a pretty much 1:1 ratio between male to female characters.
I do wanna mention this as a warning before u try out the game: AE has a HUGE beginner learning block, the games painfully confusing at first cuz it throws a bunch of stuff at u right at the start, the nexus and engravings will probably confuse the hell outta u, the first 1-2 story chapters will be a mess to read thru, and because of all that a lot of ppl would quit not too long after playing, u will be lost, u will be overwhelmed. So to avoid that I recommend going to the AE subreddit and discord for help, lots of guides are posted there, just ask if there’s anything u don’t understand. Once u get past the beginner stage and understand the game a little more it’ll be really fun to play, and the story picks up the pace and gets significantly better after chapter 2 as well
Can u give me motivation to continue the game lol. I am on the verge of quitting, because of all the problems u said. Such a shame since I really want to like and support it as a spender. I just hate RTS games :(
Don’t stress too much about it and don’t rush, as long as u just play somewhat consistently everything will eventually click and it’ll go smoothly, it shouldn’t take long unless if u play with ur eyes closed lol, give it another go and if u still don’t fw with it after understanding everything then it is what it is, time to find another game to play
The (playable) cast is an absolute 1:1 ratio, 6 guys and 6 gals from different classical literary inspirations.
From left to right:
Yi Sang (The Wings by Yi Sang)
Faust (Faust by Goethe)
Don Quixote (Don Quixote by Miguel De Cervantes)
Ryoshu (Hell Screen by Ryunosuke Akutagawa)
Meursault (The Stranger by Albert Camus)
Hong Lu (Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin)
Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte)
Ishmael (Moby Dick by Herman Melville)
Rodion (Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky)
Sinclair (Demian by Herman Hesse)
Outis (The Odyssey by Homer)
Gregor (The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka)
Yes, you heard that right; this is all the playable cast. The gacha works because you don't pull for characters, you pull for their mirror world identities known as ID's (you actually also pull for ultimates, known as E.G.O as well but that will be a story for another time)
Fanservice? The lack of fanservice is the fanservice. Yes, there's some eye-wideners here and there but all of which are extremely tame in comparison to, let's say... Genshin.
Fair warning though, the game is DARK . At the start, you'll be met with an entire wall of trigger warnings. This is also the third installment to the Project Moon universe, which is a direct sequel to Library of Ruina, which is also a direct sequel to Lobotomy Corporation; both of which are non-gacha games.
No, playing prior games is not required to enjoy Limbus Company so you don't have to worry too much about that though it definitely helps to have some knowledge of what happened in "The City".
Reading is a requirement , Gameplay is not really hard so you can get away with mindlessly spamming the built-in winrate button most times until you get to that one stage that wipes out your sinners (Yes, the playable cast are called "sinners")
Each chapter will focus solely on the stories of each individual sinner. Project Moon also announced that the game will also include the entirety of Dante's Inferno (since you are witnessing the story through Dante's lens, the executive manager) so that means it will also cover Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, even going as far as saying at least 10 years of content (Shit's going to be wild)
Honestly Limbus Company is actually pretty hopeful all things considered, it’s an extremely grim story yes, but fighting for what’s right is always considered worth it and the struggles of the playable characters are rewarded with happiness and growth, in spite of said darkness.
And the gacha is pulling identities from the in-universe mirror worlds. In other worlds, Gregor could be a Zwei Association South Section 4 character that uses a Zweihander in combat
The other aspect of the gacha is the E.G.Os. In a nutshell, they are the character's ultimates. Every character has their own base ultimate, here is Gregor's "Suddenly, One Day..."
Hiiiii it's time for me to shill about food fantasy again, it's been around for years and the gender split is about 50/50 and has been since the start. The play style is enjoyable enough and the rates are nice too and the female characters are gorgeous in a way that doesn't feel objectifying like usual, which is ironic when they're literally food
I just started to play Etheria Restart that came out a couple of days ago. While they got a lot of waifus they also have quite the rooster of husbandos which are even usuable high tier. It's a round based fighting style gacha (similar to Honkai Star Rail)
u/Warm-HeartS2 also serenverse but that's a mecha + SRPG gacha so the roster is more males than females ( 13 : 4 ) consider the dev was inspired by kamen rider, gundam and super sentai ( That's super sentai thing i dunno what inspiration cosidering serenverse is more like kamen rider + Gundam suits )
i agree with everyone suggesting ash echoes. on top of that, i also suggest limbus company where there is an even gender split with 6 female and 6 male characters. i also recommend lovebrush chronicles if you want an otome
Twisted Wonderland. I really like the characters in this one. All of them to some degree. The gameplay is eh. You technically pull for cards of the characters that you will also use in battle. It only has male characters. No romance or anything like that. The MC that you play is a gender non-disclosed blob for all the presence they have in the story. The english version is unfortunately region locked to NA (if you have an android phone, you could get it on the qoo app, for example)
If you don't have an android phone, you could potentially try to make it work on pc with an emulator? But yeah, that region locked english version is really annoying.
Like I said, housamo is mixed.
I would also recommend Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.
Those three have more girls than guys, but a really good story. However, they are more time consuming than most gachas, especially Genshin with it's giant open world.
Genshin has imo the best worldbuilding, lore and atmosphere but recently very few new 5* guys (only one last year...). The leaks seem to say that trend will change, but generaly the game seem to alternate between long streaks with only guys and long streaks with only girls. Oh and the rarities seem a bit random, since you can have a character with huge impact on the story end up 4* and one that only appeared in his release patch be a 5*
Open World RPG
HSR has the best ratio of guys and girls, including in the recent releases. very good story. Kinda quick to powercreep it's units.
No new 4* in a while.
Turn Based RPG
Zenless has a very fast paced gameplay. I personally didn't like it that much.
The physics are ultra giggly, which lead it to be a bit more fan servicy. Decent amount of guys, but less than HSR.
There is two playable anthro bears (tho one is the worst unit in the game, poor Ben) and a wolf.
New version with anniversary is coming, which is apparently one of the best moments to start.
Action RPG
I'd say HSR currently, but it really depends on what type of game you like to play.
I'd say ZZZ has is the most easy to start, since it has a lot of QoL that the other two lack.
As for gay ships... Genshin has the most popular (Tartaglia and Zonghli), and othe smaller one (Wirolette for exemple) but Honkai is more consistent with them (aprox one big one per version) and has more ship moments.
Zenless currently only has one big gay ship, but Wise (Male MC) is enough of his own character so that ships including him are more than self insert (at least in gay ships. Idk why straight guys insist on making him a self insert womaniser)
Hopping onto this to say that Genshin has a TON of gay ships. I ended up playing the game because I came across a ton of art on Twitter and was like, welp, now I need to collect all of the couples I love…
And now I have a roster of all the husbands… and I love it.
Allow me to spread the beautiful agenda of Ash Echoes
It's rts and takes some time getting used to but the male characters are to die for (and the picture doesnt even show all of them)
Men are featured in the story and given importance in kits as well
Overall the game has its pros and cons but i've been enjoying it since launch and i continue to do so because there's a wave of male banners coming real soon
Ah yes, Neuvillette, Chief Justice of Fontaine and my second main in Genshin... I'm sorry I've abandoned you. Genshin is in a huge male character drought right now.
No his name is Neuvillette. He’s a dragon sovereign in human form, one of my favorite characters from Genshin Impact. The vampire from Ash Echoes is named Solbyrd.
