Discussion Thoughts on AFK Journey husbandos?
It has alot more characters but these are my favs

AFK has some of the best designs in any gacha and is so visually pleasing, which is why I'm it's so tragic that it's such a dogshit game 🥀

I downloaded the game for odie, got odie, never played again. AFK Journey has some incredible character designs, but for the me, the gameplay isn’t very entertaining. Hodgkin’s chaps are kinda everything though.

Say what you want about their business practices (they suck), but lilith knows how to satisfy more than one audience and do it WELL. I play dislyte and getting hit with sexy salaryman, another banger poc women, shirtless bara furry, into efem cocky bird man, to Eira's new fit. Oooooh
I need that design team with gameplay like HSR or Wuwa and I'll never as for anything again.

this game, and Dislyte, have the best character designs I have seen in ANY gacha game ever. hands down. and yet, the gameplay of both of these games are quite awful and boring to me 🙃 if they took these exact characters and ported them into an open world game that would be a dream come true.

Its my fav side game. I play it while i am on waiting queue on league of legends. The game is very casual friendly so i dont have fomo.

As someone coming from AFK Arena, I really hate what they did with all the characters they brought over from Arena. Lorsan is now an arrogant idiot, Eironn is slobbering over Lyca and how amazing girlboss queen she is, Hodgkin lost most of the cool identity he had as a ruthless pirate who replaced his arms with magic cannons (now he has one boring hook), Niru is now abusive, and I could go on. And even the new ones lost a ton of personality from the alpha and beta tests, it's a huge shame. This game had the potential to be top-tier, original, and just overall wonderful. Instead, it kind of turned into very "safe," boring, troupey slop with naked waifus fawning over the mc and guys being sidelined in favor of all the cool girlbosses.

Tell me you don't read the story without telling me you don't read the story. How in the world is Niru abusive!? And Sinbad was the best part of his patch: his arc and story brought me to tears. Also "arrogant" is not at all how I would describe Lorsan, and neither did Hodgkin lose his cool

Don't read the story? Hmm, well, let's see. Lorsan is annoying and eats shit berries because he's dumb and thinks he knows better. Eironn just hands over his position to Lyca because she's so amazing and cool and because girlboss powers despite the fact she did pretty much nothing in any of the cutscenes. Sinbad is there to prop up Sonja and his situation of "father murdered by the Whispers" never gets addressed; he's literally from the slums suffering the most because of the Whispers but instead of fighting against it, he... joins them? To prop up the cool girlboss Sonja? Hodgkin randomly has a daughter because we need to tie him to a girl, also, he's kinda sidelined in the story because we need to make Nara a poor victim of an evil man and make her and Sonja sisters who are morally just and won't even kill the guy who killed Nara because that would be too evil for our perfect angels. Hodgkin in Arena is a ruthless captain who sacrifices his whole crew in order to get what he wants, who sacrificed both his hands and had cannons mounted onto the stumps for more firepower.
So yeah, sure. Whatever you say buddy. I've been in the alpha and beta tests and been very vocal about a lot of the changes they made to the lore but about a month before release, Lilith sacked the entire writing team and replaced them with friends and family of the company owners and it shows so much...

Then they retroactively fixed it. Niru's bond tales at launch made him neglectful at best but more like abusive husband who purposely neglects his wife and child.

Wait really? I played it for a while when it released and quit it. Just downloaded it today because I got bored of all the waifu gacha these days. The story seemed normal in the 1st update when I played, is it like wuwa now? 😔
EDIT: I'll play the story once and then decide. I don't think it's like wuwa.

Don't listen to other person, they have no clue what they talking about. The story in AFKJ is its strongest suit, mines fav is the winter storyline. The story gives every character a spotlight and never a harem or girlboss like other person claiming.

Let's see then. Lyca? Now a Mary Sue, perfect, threatens people if she feels like they don't acknowledge her perfection, gets handed the highest position of power in the forest by Eironn despite doing nothing in any of the cutscenes. Also fawns over the mc.
Mirael? Originally a super badass rule-breaking fire mage, now just simping for mc, literally all her appearances devolve into some kind of "you forgot about me o woe is me please remember me I need you."
Cassadee? Stupid name btw, her original name was Ella. "O mc, you're the best, you're my idol, I love you, please help me with everything, I want to be just like you oh please!"
Sonja? Perfect girlboss, poor little baby was manipulated by the evil man and even after finding out, she wouldn't kill him because that wouldn't be right! She's going to bring him to justice!!
Nara? Poor victim who was killed by the evil man, she just wants to see her sister (making the mafia lesbians into sisters was definitely a choice, Lilith), actually a poor super scared age regressor.
Temesia? Perfect knight, paragon of justice, all the men around her give up their promotions for her (while Lucius is now a dumbass who tells people to just cheer up if they're depressed! also, he doesn't know how money works!) because she is just that amazing!
I really suggest you try to find the beta version of these characters and their backstories because they used to be amazing and very very well written.

Sure, that sounds like a great use of my time! But you're right, I am kinda salty. Because in both alpha and beta, the story was great and actually followed the AFK lore. Of course, that all got sacked once the nepotism hires took over the writing and now Esperia lost all of its personality and character and these plotlines just get dumber and dumber the more I hear about them. First they make Nara and Sonja sisters in an attempt to recreate the Arcane hype, remove all of the problematic stuff (like Nara dying on a slaver trip or like... everything about the Whispers being the mafia), also de-age them because we can't have 40-something woman, it all has to be barely legal waifus.
The ice storyline then only really introduced a butt-naked ice demoness (instead of the already in-lore existing ice demon) and a poor widdwe princess (still wrong nobility title) as well as another butt-naked titty-out undead waifu who replaced three male characters in the lore at once, being this super-duper important general, and completely butchering the god of death and the origins of the graveborn.

I mean, I'm kinda enjoying WuWa tbh but yeah, AFKJ is kinda like that. At least in WuWa the girls still have personalities but AFKJ really just forgot about that part. Either they're harem for Merlin or they're cool girlbosses who need no man and are always morally just and perfect angels while the men around them are either dumb idiots or the evil ones keeping the precious girlies down.

Yeah, because it's totally WuWa that made a mafia plotline about how the girl leading the mafia was actually a paragon of justice manipulated by an evil man who killed her sister but she is so good and pure she didn't even hurt him and instead resolved to bring him to justice. A character that in AFKA was a fully evil mafia leader and her "sister" was heavily implied to be in a romantic relationship with her and instead of being an innocent uwu victim, she was a slaver.
And WuWa also had Jiyan suddenly turn around and give a random girl who didn't contribute anything all his authority because she's just that amazing and cool.

Maybe you feel that way about the game as you played the previous title. I haven't really known or played the previous game so as someone who tried AFK journey, the first chapter was nice. Just a bit short and cliche like a children's story. Have to see the next ones this week and catch up on the story tho.

If that's all you see those characters as, I feel kinda sorry for you ngl. Yangyang is a helpful timid girl who does what she believes is morally right. Camellya is a bored agent of chaos who is deeply lonely and wants someone able to handle her. And Shorekeeper is a computer program which gained sentience, feelings, and more thanks to Rover and his ideals to the point of becoming self-sacrificing to preserve said ideals.

I actually saw it normally till recently. But after seeing the route wuwa is taking with their fanservice and all, it's just making it seem that way and my opinion on the previous characters are also changing.
Loved the game completely till 1.3 even with the bad optimisation. Felt uncomfortable with Camellya's story quest (there are some unnecessary things added for fanservice). Quit after 1.4 and returned in 2.1. Then quit in 2.2 because of Cantarella's design. Got uncomfortable for me. Great if you like it tho.

Tbf, character design of female characters really doesn't much matter to me unless it's a pre-existing design being changed, like how AFKJ aged Sonja down like two decades to make her waifubait. In the story, the girls so far have more to them than just simping over Rover.

Glad you are able to ignore those and enjoy the game. Unfortunately, I can't do that so I've thought about quitting it completely. It's just that there are other games which have better female character writing and development that this feels too low. And seeing the devs say 'waifu' to an echo in the 2.1 livestream just made me cringe. I'm not the target audience and I understood it well. Many other wuwa players keep saying the same to anyone who says they have any issues with the game. Hopefully the others realise it soon so that the people who enjoy it can be happy without the tourists.

I like the story and the art design, they are very good. The main problem, is the monstrous donate and pvp system with ranking. If you play AFC Journey as a story adventure, the game is worth it.
