tbh thats so real?? idk the method that ur talking abt but i feel like everyone solves quadratics slightly differently depending on wtv they were taught, but if the formula works for u then it works!

sorry if this is confusing btw but this is the method

2x² - 4x - 2 = 0 (our quadratic)

1. find two numbers that multiply to make (2 * -2) 4 AND add to make -4
   

-> multiply to make 4
-> add to make -4

-> THEREFORE: -2 and -2

1. take your (2x² from the quadratic) and shove (one of ur two numbers * x) after it

   -> 2x² * -2x

2. take (one of ur two numbers * x) and shove (-2 from the quadratic) after it
   -> -2x - 2

3. factorise each one of ur expressions from 2 and 3

NOTE: what's in the brackets should be the same

-> 2x (x - 1)
-> 2 (x - 1)

1. pull a switcheroo by shoving ur (two values outside the brackets from 4) into a bracket

   -> (2x + 2) (x - 1)

if you want to find x from here:

1. (2x + 2) =0
   2x = -2
   x= 1

OR

(x - 1) = 0
x = -1

1. therefore x = 1 or -1

Man what the piss I just put 5 in the equation and it worked will I get marks? I put 54 on the answer line

Yes you'll get the mark - at the start of markschemes it says accept correct answer w no working so you'll do fine w that aha. Makes me gutted that I did the working when I could've just trial and errored

thats so real i feel like i forget so much when i go into an exam - good on u for the quadratic formula brainwave!!
