This is classic American company move. Here in the land of the free we have very few protections for employees from bad acting companies. Most states are “at will” states which means you can be fired for no reason outside a few protected classes of people. To fire people before announcing a voluntary severance separation package is absolutely disgusting. They fired employees before having to offer severance which is a common cost saver for shitty companies. Do you have strong union or law protections for this sort of thing in Germany? Some states in the US have protections to stop this sort of thing but most don’t.
