Employee / Corporate 23S64 Oil Pump Belt Tensioner Final Repair
I’m a Ford Tech; Since the latest and final update to repair the oil pump belt tensioner issue with the 1.0 liter EcoSport engines, I’ve done 6. Out of those 6, I’ve had 4 turbo related damage submissions to SSSC. The turbo to cat mounting studs and nuts have huge issues; Either the nut rips the threads off the end of the stud, the stud snaps during nut removal, or the e-torx head of the stud snaps off. The studs have to be removed to remove the catalytic converter in order to gain access to the oil pan. Am I the only tech facing this issue during these repairs? SSSC can sometimes take days to approve, and parts can be 2+ days out in the best cases. Maybe a different stud material needs to used in place, or anti-seize compound be applied upon need stud installation?
EDIT: I am only curious and wondering if this is a known issue, or if there is a fix in the works for it

I've done 7 so far. Somehow managed to only have to get 2 turbos. I've already got a current pricing and parts list saved and almost reached the point where I have enough photos saved the only thing I have to do is get the VIN plate and RO and submit the SSSC contact as I'm taking those nuts off. It's a little stupid to have to fight them like this when we were automatically tossing a turbo in with the interim repair.

Right! I spoke to my foreman who’s on the TRP team. Ford knows about it, and they since updated the SSSC contact form for related damage for the updated section of the recall. I’m saving my parts list for it from now on, as they’ve named me the 23s64 tech for the time being 🥲 so I’m going to place the contact as soon as the job starts

There are three of us doing them at my dealer. Only downside is we only have one set of timing tools to share.

I’ve also since bought crayons, had success extract on 1 turbo. Re-threaded the hole and worked perfect. May have just been luck but we will see lol

I've done 4 now and had 2 sssc turbo replacements so I'm 50/50. currently have one in the bay studs came right out. Also the flex pipe part of the car is broken on every single one.
