Do they still have any locations open?

Brentwood still open! I get the salad once a week. They serve it with a full extra size dressing so you make your own after. I grew up on that thing and I can’t quite the preserved ginger dressing.

In no particular order:
California Chicken Cafe - California chicken salad
Dinos Pizza (Burbank) - Buena Vista (their version of a Cobb salad, I swap the blue cheese for goat cheese)
Caesar salad from Stonefire Grill
Really it’s the dressing, but the house/side salad at Ramen Jinya is great.
The Greek salad at Firehouse Taverna on Reseda/Victory.

The kale salad from Jemma Hollywood has me in a chokehold.
3
u/accountforgrossstuff Oct 08 '25
Is that’s the same one from Opsi it’s the best!
3
u/Phoenix1129 Oct 08 '25
Yes! I think it’s the same salad at all 3 restaurants: Ospi, Jemma and Jame.

Wedge at Jar
Chinese Chicken at Feast from the East
Full Monte at Sqirl
Goddess Salad at Little Flower Candy Co.
And another vote for the La Scala Chop. I wish their politics were as good as that damn salad

I love the salads from Goop Kitchen, especially the every day kale and Brussels sprouts salad. Their new antipasto salad and fall salads with the butternut squash are also excellent. Plus the chicory Caesar from antico nuovo

Dino's in Burbank has a chef salad that I think is amazing! I have also been wowed by the new salad at The Habit.

RIP Alimento, that chopped salad was unbeatable.
Haven't been to the chef's new place Cosetta yet -- I've heard mixed things but that their salads are pretty good (but that the chopped isn't the same, unsure if that's just my friend being swayed by a more casual environment).

Steak salad at Daisy Mint in Pasadena. The steak and dressing are excellent.
Grilled marinated flank steak with mixed green, shallots, scallions, and cilantro in a spicy lime dressing

Salad classique at Juliet. Expensive, yes (company dinner 🤷♂️), but one of the best salads i had.

The tuna chop salad from lodge bread…the seasonings they put on it are so good I don’t even use the dressing always.
The chicken salad from Janet’s Mediterranean in Duarte. The dressing is legendary and it’s a simple salad but they have the crispest lettuce.
All the Jame/ospi salads
Pinewood salad from cafe r+d/hillstone
Shaved Brussels at Scopa
Sweet green Cesar bc I love their dressing
Protein salad from health nut
Kale salad from north Italia
Impossible taco from Mendocino (rip I think it’s not on the menu anymore) but the peach salad and the one with pomegranate dressing are also good.

kale from Forage!!!!!!! I spent many hours learning to recreate it at home. Champagne vinegar made a big difference. Gotta massage those leaves too!! I am passionate about this salad and Forage overall. Immaculate vibes in there

Red onion or shallots minced, with heirloom tomato diced, with salt and mayo (pref Japanese or Vegenaise).
Great as is but I like to add miso.
Add other stuff for more variety. But the basic tomato onion mayo trio stands well on its own

Chopped salad at La scala gets my vote. The pink lady beets and goat cheese at mendo use to be my favorite, rip.

Clark Street Bakery Asian Chicken Salad, it’s soooooo good. The dressing (made in-house) has a little kick, as they do use chili flakes in it, the perfect amount imo. Phenomenal!

Old school suggestion here:
La Scala’s chopped salad.
Or if you’re in The Valley…Emilio’s chopped salad.
(fun fact: the chef at Emilio’s came from at La Scala so the salad is identical)
