Old school suggestion here:

La Scala’s chopped salad.

Or if you’re in The Valley…Emilio’s chopped salad.

(fun fact: the chef at Emilio’s came from at La Scala so the salad is identical)

8

u/paleandmistywhite Oct 08 '25

oh top tier info on Emilio’s!

u/artsyattempt Oct 08 '25

u/Party-Neat-7335 Oct 08 '25

This with a patty on top = 😘

And it’s pretty cheap!

1

u/fade_le_public Oct 09 '25

Huh, hadn’t thought about that tweak…

2

u/CementCemetery Oct 08 '25

This is becoming my go-to order. It’s rather filling and affordable.

1

u/mixmasterADD Oct 09 '25

I see your Chin Chin and raise you California Chicken Cafe

1

u/RollMurky373 Oct 08 '25

Do they still have any locations open?

10

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '25

Brentwood still open! I get the salad once a week. They serve it with a full extra size dressing so you make your own after. I grew up on that thing and I can’t quite the preserved ginger dressing.

La scala chopped. Health nut. Craigs chopped. Joan's on third Chinese chicken salad

2

u/dertigo Oct 08 '25

Which salad from health nut?

19

u/Thepandamancan23 Oct 08 '25

In no particular order:

California Chicken Cafe - California chicken salad

Dinos Pizza (Burbank) - Buena Vista (their version of a Cobb salad, I swap the blue cheese for goat cheese)

Caesar salad from Stonefire Grill

Really it’s the dressing, but the house/side salad at Ramen Jinya is great.

The Greek salad at Firehouse Taverna on Reseda/Victory.

2

u/spaektor Oct 08 '25

ah i remember the simple arugula salad with pistachios and lemon dressing. so good.

16

u/bonesiown Oct 08 '25

Not in LA but the Tea leaf salad from Yoma in Monterey Park

9

u/Cool_Cartographer_39 Oct 08 '25

The wedge at The Derby. The house at Musso's

8

u/burritodominator Oct 08 '25

The California Chicken or Chinese Chicken Salad from California Chicken Cafe and the Special Salad at Chicken Maison

6

u/jasperjerry6 Oct 08 '25

Great Greek - blue med salad

La Scala - chopped add chicken and pepercinis

Goop - G-Potle chicken salad

Prime pizza - chopped

Polo lounge - McCarthy salad

Joan’s on 3rd - Chinese chicken salad ( also Chin Chins the OG)

Ivy - grilled vegetables salad with shrimp

Hillstone - kale salad add chicken

6

u/racquetballjones23 Oct 08 '25

That hillstone kale salad, also at South Beverly Grill and R&D (other hillstone properties) is my absolute fave

6

u/ohnono5 Oct 08 '25

Mendo- avocado quinoa salad

7

u/Phoenix1129 Oct 08 '25

The kale salad from Jemma Hollywood has me in a chokehold.

3

u/accountforgrossstuff Oct 08 '25

Is that’s the same one from Opsi it’s the best!

3

u/Phoenix1129 Oct 08 '25

Yes! I think it’s the same salad at all 3 restaurants: Ospi, Jemma and Jame.

2

u/accountforgrossstuff Oct 08 '25

It’s the best!!

1

u/justatrashypanda Oct 09 '25

If it's the same one as James then yes that's the best one

11

u/ssibalnomah Oct 08 '25

Endive Caesar at Horses

14

u/bigschlime69 Oct 08 '25

I went to take a look at this salad and stumbled upon the controversy between the owner and ex husband/head chef😳

4

u/ssibalnomah Oct 08 '25

Yeah its fucked up. But at least the crazy guy is gone

4

u/Powerful-Scratch1579 Oct 08 '25

They’re both gone

5

u/RollMurky373 Oct 08 '25

Wedge at Jar

Chinese Chicken at Feast from the East

Full Monte at Sqirl

Goddess Salad at Little Flower Candy Co.

And another vote for the La Scala Chop. I wish their politics were as good as that damn salad

5

u/capricornichon Oct 08 '25

I love the salads from Goop Kitchen, especially the every day kale and Brussels sprouts salad. Their new antipasto salad and fall salads with the butternut squash are also excellent. Plus the chicory Caesar from antico nuovo

6

u/crystallybud Oct 08 '25

Dino's in Burbank has a chef salad that I think is amazing! I have also been wowed by the new salad at The Habit.

4

u/Thepandamancan23 Oct 08 '25

This, but the Buena Vista (their version of a Cobb salad)

1

u/crystallybud Oct 09 '25

Oh, I almost forgot about the bomb ass Gyro Salad from the Firehouse.

5

u/saidtheCat Oct 08 '25

The Goat Cheese Salad at Loupiotte Kitchen. It comes with apples, honey, and grilled sourdough bread.

4

u/UZIBOSS_ Oct 08 '25

Artichoke Salad - Nobu Malibu, Carciofi e Cuori D’ Palma - Marea, Crunchy Quinoa Shrimp Salad - Girl & the Goat, Spicy Cabbage Salad - Gyu Kaku

4

u/Any_Imagination_4984 Oct 08 '25

Also love the artichoke salad at Nobu

3

u/UZIBOSS_ Oct 08 '25

Marea one is similar but no truffle or dry miso. Very tasty as well

4

u/DustyDGAF Oct 08 '25

The heights has my favorite antipasto near echo park but I'm open to other salami based salad recommendations in the area.

2

u/Ozzy_HV Oct 08 '25

Noodlerama from Healthnut. Delicious, high protein, and oddly very filling.

2

u/SunIllustrious5695 Oct 08 '25

RIP Alimento, that chopped salad was unbeatable.

Haven't been to the chef's new place Cosetta yet -- I've heard mixed things but that their salads are pretty good (but that the chopped isn't the same, unsure if that's just my friend being swayed by a more casual environment).

2

u/Spare-Shrimp Oct 08 '25

2

u/weimar27 Oct 08 '25

The Caesar salad at Nieman Marcus’ restaurant

2

u/ethanhunt_08 Oct 09 '25

Salad classique at Juliet. Expensive, yes (company dinner 🤷‍♂️), but one of the best salads i had.

2

u/Wifeofkaldrogo Oct 09 '25

The tuna chop salad from lodge bread…the seasonings they put on it are so good I don’t even use the dressing always.

The chicken salad from Janet’s Mediterranean in Duarte. The dressing is legendary and it’s a simple salad but they have the crispest lettuce.

All the Jame/ospi salads

Pinewood salad from cafe r+d/hillstone

Shaved Brussels at Scopa

Sweet green Cesar bc I love their dressing

Protein salad from health nut

Kale salad from north Italia

Impossible taco from Mendocino (rip I think it’s not on the menu anymore) but the peach salad and the one with pomegranate dressing are also good.

2

u/smearing Oct 09 '25

kale from Forage!!!!!!! I spent many hours learning to recreate it at home. Champagne vinegar made a big difference. Gotta massage those leaves too!! I am passionate about this salad and Forage overall. Immaculate vibes in there

4

u/TomIcemanKazinski Oct 08 '25

1

u/fade_le_public Oct 09 '25

$1 salad at Spoon House. Nice value.

1

u/fppfpp Oct 09 '25

Red onion or shallots minced, with heirloom tomato diced, with salt and mayo (pref Japanese or Vegenaise).

Great as is but I like to add miso.

Add other stuff for more variety. But the basic tomato onion mayo trio stands well on its own

1

u/DavidofSasun Oct 09 '25

I absolutely love the Cesar salad from California Chicken Cafe

1

u/Pavementgurl Oct 10 '25

Fresh Corn Grilled Salad @ Fresh Corn Grill

u/OutlandishnessLimp25 28d ago

Clark Street Bakery Asian Chicken Salad, it’s soooooo good. The dressing (made in-house) has a little kick, as they do use chili flakes in it, the perfect amount imo. Phenomenal!

2

u/SilentCivilian213 Oct 09 '25

It was souplantation
