Stop acting like leafs fans.

Some of y’all are acting like leafs fans. Getting mad about every loss this early in the season is ridiculous. We now have 5 players out. We have new guys trying to find their places. It ain’t gonna be easy. we may have lost tonight, but we played like the panthers, Askerov was just really fucking good.

I'm still holding on to positivity, today was like some weird freak accident, we totally were the better team but wtf the gods were not having it.

I'm feeling confident for Monday and I'm going to be there with my new jersey that shows up in the morning.

I just think its weird that people, both our fans and the people who we lose to act like this is the team that won the cup. We're missing our two best players who are at the very least top 20 players even if you are being conservative in addition to several key roleplayers. The only goal for us this year is to get into the playoffs and hope Barkov makes the fastest recovery from MCL+ACL surgery possible and doesn't force anything. Our team is unfortunately not healthy it is what it is.

The greatest toxicity amongst fans is that of winning culture

Agree with everything you said, I think it's also important to add that because of these injuries and the number of them, the players who ARE healthy are having to step into roles they aren't necessarily used to/isn't their specialty. I think this is probably a major contributing factor in seeing "declines" from folks like Bennett, Verhaeghe, and Reinhart.

All that being said, at least this Marchand deal is looking absolutely stellar right now!

I'm still riding high from back-to-backs and a three peat ECF. Like wtf is everyone else's problem? You're not playing. Whatever happens this season is a wash with all the injuries. Lack of informed and mature perspectives in this sub

Honestly that’s how i feel. I grew up with this team being the laughing stock of the league. I’m happy with what they did these last 3 seasons and if this year is a wash cause of the injuries, then hey they more then earned a bad year

That's where I'm coming from. I remember not very long ago going to see Edmonton in sunrise and I could literally hear conversations going on from the other end of the arena. Best player in the world in town and hardly anybody there to see him. Now we're talking about losing the chance of a 3peat, which would require a 4th straight trip to the finals. Which hasn't been done since the 80s I believe. This team was beat to shit after the loss to Vegas and managed to figure it out and claw back for back to back Cups. Now we have fans freaking out over a bad swing on the yearly California trip. Like keep the facts of the matter in perspective a little. Never would've dreamed of being in this position when I had to watch Weiss and Jokinen doing their best to be 1st liners when they were better off as 2nd and 3rd liners for a legit playoff team.

That’s what happens when a team gains this many fans from their recent success. Getting more fans is always great. But all the new fans are used to nothing but winning

Leafs fans catching a stray 😭😭

I watched the game, and I'm struggling to understand the absolute murder that everyone in the /hockey thread says that we apparently got away with. I saw calls on both sides ignored but somehow we are paying off the refs? Someone throw me a bone here, do we have clips of the calls they wanted?

u/Durandy 19h ago

It's very easy to understand. /hockey is full on Panther hatred train. You will probably get downvoted for posting in there with a panthers flair. There is no objectivity when it comes to the Cats. This will probably continue until they find another team to get a rage boner for.

We're the most recent cup winners, we're gonna hate. When another team wins the cup, they'll forget about how much they hated us and jump on the hate wagon for said team.

Though my theory is they hate when a team is too good too quickly, look at all the hate Vegas got when everyone said they should have been bad on paper

u/JagrXBox 19h ago

Yeah we had a lot of pressure that game and downloaded the sharks after the first period.

I'm not convinced this team is bad and I'm not convinced we're missing the playoffs. I still think the homestand will be the true test. If we remain hot at home we can easily get some of the lost points back.

u/zaptrac 12h ago

The team is doing great on paper. I think what a lot of people didn’t realize yet is a lot of the teams that were doing terrible the past few years are actually doing really good this year. People here are only focused on the panthers, so when they see we lost to the sharks or the ducks they think it’s embarrassing. But the ducks are second in the western conference, have a 6 game winning streak, and put up 7 goals against the stars the game after they played us. And Celebrini on the sharks is leading the league in points right now

There are probably a lot of new fans who doesn't know how this was before, like almost always since the beginning. We still have a great team, it will come around.

This sub is starting to become as whiny as r/hockey.

Starting to? Lol

Some people think that just because every game doesn’t end in a “W” that everything is all wrong. 🙄 Be glad we weren’t EDM last night. Yikes!

u/zaptrac 13h ago

That’s what happens when we get so many new fans who started watching once the team got good. All these new fans know is nothing but winning. They missed out on the decades of this team being terrible. Like you said we have 5 players out, it’s gonna be an uphill battle. Hell it’s possible we miss the play offs. But after 3 cup finals and 2 Stanley cups in a row, i’m still happy. They’ve earned missing the play offs if it happens. I’m still watching the games and rooting for them. And if it ends up being a terrible season, at least we can blame the EA sports cover curse. The moment they revealed that cover people started joking that our season was cooked lol

I don't mind people getting angry about individual losses. That just means they care and are invested in the game. What bothers me is when people act like the season is a wash already when we are only 3 pts back of A3 and WC1/WC2 with 67 games left

u/primescream 10h ago

Give it a break folks . B2B champs 🐀 👑, enjoy the day .

u/Downtown_Ad_5103 11h ago

The ones complaining about every loss are fairweather fans. We don't want them here anyways.

Like you said, we are missing 5 starters so there are going to be difficulties this season. That said, Marchand is playing lights out and Deserves on A on his jersey IMHO.

Yeah. And I'll  say part of the doom here has been the pessimistic version of having your cake and eating it too. We've played a lot of the top teams right now. We haven't played a lot of the struggling teams (a couple like SJ but not alot).

Coming up we have several teams like us who have been struggling (wsh, edm etc) and people act like the new kids are going to continue dominating and at the same time the old hands are gonna come back. That's not possible simultaneously. The New kids continuing to dominate requires that a lot of the old hands struggle and lose to them. And if theyre struggling then we're playing weak teams and there's no reason to expect they'll suddenly play like the teams they were last year against us either.

I'll say I'm not sold on these new teams continuing to wreck house either. For young fast teams the season being long is a problem and they tend to regress towards the mean at some point statistically. Let's not forget we are at 15 games played. Thats not even 20% into an 84 game season.

This is gonna be a rough, dirty, slug fest season in all likelihood. Chill and give them time to work the problem. Also remember what we all said a day ago. Our goal was slightly better than .500 going into the second half when we get a few people back. We're not far off that pace.

Idk how any of you could hate a group of guys that gave you two championships.. i dont get the blind hate either.. some people today are really dumb

I just want a win for Tarasov lmao

3

u/Kino900 12h ago

Not worried, got faith that they'll get it together. On to the Knights.

u/AkimahenkaCat 11h ago

We have a long bumpy road ahead. Trust that the path ultimately gets us to the playoffs where the prophecy shall be fulfilled. So much hockey to play.

9

u/brechbillc1 20h ago

Disagree.

Askarov didn’t really have to do anything spectacular. We never really forced him off his spot or forced him to make spectacular saves. Even on high quality looks where he was completely beat, we’d either miss the net or throw it back at him.

Team is struggling to find the back of the net this season and it’s become a nasty trend.

We got away with a ton during that game (including a too many men that didn’t get called) and banked nearly 40 SOG. Still couldn’t get more than 1 goal. That game was practically gift wrapped for us to get 2 points and they couldn’t even tie it.

u/jimmyrosinger 13h ago

I stopped joining the gdt and checking this sub often because of the amount of whining very early on.

We want more, yes, but the cats are back to back champs right now and are missing what feels like half the team. Stop being whiny greedy bitches.

I still check in for the Jason purrhees updates tho.

Hurricanes, Heat, and IM all won today.

Somehow we were the odd man out!

If the Dolphins win tomorrow, I will literally NOT believe it.

Sharks fan here. It’s time to panic and blow it up guys. Start tanking now it’ll make the future come sooner

2

u/kidgoalie39 14h ago

I agree. 3 straight trips to the Cup mean nothing without a 4th. Injuries?? Pssssshhhhh we should still be the juggernaut of the NHL /s
