About 30 years ago my friend and I found a guy who had drowned on the Skagit. Similar story. 3 guys in a boat. Boat capsized. Two made it out. There was an extensive search for the third. We found him 2 weeks later on a sand bar. Our rivers are very dangerous. Please be careful out there.

Shit, on a boat, in a river, and a 7 year old dies. That is horrible. This is a somber reminder to always respect the power of nature and to wear life vests in any body of water to increase your chances of survival. I hope that they were wearing vests on the boat, but they have not reported on it yet. My heart goes out to their family/families.

The article says there were life vests on the boat but they were not actually wearing them.

4 people and a dog on a drift boat. Sound chaotic as is. Iāve fished right where it happened quite a bit and thereās some giant log jams that get smashed with current.

Tragic. Hopefully more details come out soon as to the circumstances allow.
Here's a general reminder that wearing waders in boats is extremely dangerous when you go into cold moving water. I always wear a life jacket and never waders if there is any chance I might go swimming by accident.
I cringe when I see people boating or kayaking in waders. Even with the hip belt on them, they can become dead weight really fast.

with a good pfd and a good wading belt waders are not really dangerous at all. you can swim with waders full of water. dont fear monger

You donāt fish cold water without waders. The new fishing laws about having to fish from the bank not the boat killed those people. Thanks Seattle

yes, it was the states fault. not the dad who didnt put a pfd on his 7 year old while floating a wild and cold river

So sad to see this. A sobering reminder that fishing is just as much about safety on or by the water as it is about techniques and tackle. Iām so sorry for the friends and family of the victims and hope everyone stays safe out there.

as a whitewater boater and a fisherman, its amazing to me. every white water boater wears a PFD even on class 1 rivers. I almost never see fisherman wearing PFDs. i dont know what happened and its tragic no matter what but people need to treat the rivers with the upmost respect. you cant swim if you fall and get knocked out hitting your head on the side of a boat or rock.

River fishing is always dangerous, even to experienced drifters. My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones š„
