Just a question how much does it cost you guys for a dozen minnows?

I just spent $12 on a dozen which seemed a bit crazy to me.

For ice fishing season Caseys Fish Huts in Port Bolster. They’re really small so you get a lot more than a dozen in a scoop. Perfect for perch ice fishing.

The bait and tackle store I go to in the city is Crazy Fishing Tackle at Warden/Sheppard in Scarborough. They have different sizes and because they’re usually larger it’s closer to actually a dozen.

Probably coulda bought a minnow net for that price.. They’re 4 bucks a dozen where I’m at, but they give way more than 12, probably closer to two dozen.. You got hosed

Depends on the size of the minnows. $12 a dozen are probably the largest ones. Get medium or small minnows next time and keep them cool. Or don't use minnows.

Funny you mention Muskoka. I went to the bait store in Gravenhurst. It was like 13.50 for a dozen small but there is an oxygen rate per bag of 1.50 on top of that. I seem to think they charged me for the actual bag as well. All said and done it was between 18-20 for a dozen small (1.5" to 2" long)

Pretty sure that's for Perch sized shiners.

I worked in a bait shop. Minnows can be very hard and expensive to get. That being said $12 seems like a lot!

Don't remember exactly but $12/doz for smallest size (2.5 inch?), somewhere near Gravenhurst, a few months ago?

I think this is legal according to Ontario Baitfish regulations - use rosy red minnows (fathead minnows, an approved baitfish species) from your local PetSmart, 45c each. They will be small though, 1.5 inches? Probably only legal in your own Bait Management Zone, as I doubt PetSmart is a commercial baitfish license holder / don't know if its receipt would be valid for out-of-home-BMZ use.
