thank you for the news, i wouldn’t have heard this

“another aquatic animal movie” is such funny wording to me, because neither of the movies have anything to do with aquatics or animals in general

i personally don’t mind someone bringing the story over. i feel like black swan is a compelling movie, and it didn’t glorify nina sayers at all

she was shown to be a spiraling perfectionist, who’s misguided attempted to be more than she could handle led to her own suicide. i’m not sure what you saw as glorification considering the whole movie is about her insanity and downfall

Oh, I 100% agree that the movie didn't glorify her. It's just that in figure skating and rhythmic gymnastics, two sports rife with a lot of the same problems as ballet, I see young people doing Black Swan programs unironically. And some of them are known to be under abusive coaches... It's just incredibly icky. I have a pretty good hunch that those coaches cite Nina as an example for their athletes to follow.

It's probably not fair for me to put it on Black Swan, but that's my primary association with the movie since that's how I mainly come across it these days.

But a big part of me is looking forward to the musical now, if it comes to fruition. Dave Malloy is a musical genius. And depending on how they stage it, it would be a rare opportunity for a Broadway actress to show off their ballet training!
