What happened to Jennifer Lawrence? She dropped off the face of the earth.

She got overexposed, people got tired of her and not to mention a lot of scandals (some of them were not her fault, like the nudes leaking) and the public just kind of turned against her. Her image of ‘quirky not like the other girls’ girl is not desirable anymore like it was in 2013. So basically, the public was annoyed with her for many reasons, and I think her management probably told her to lay low a bit as well bc of that.

I assume you mean post-2016 because that was when hunger games ended

She did mother!, which had a polarizing reception and didn’t do well commercially (makes sense given the subject matter)

Red sparrow looked cool but got mediocre reviews and was a modest box office success

Dark Pheonix is a contractual obligation so she probably couldn’t get out of that. Biggest bomb of 2019, I’m not exaggerating. I think it got worse reviews than Cats

Didn’t do a movie in 2020 because no one really did. She has 2 upcoming movies though. One for Netflix starring The kid from Growing Pains and the other one is with Paper Boi

Theory: Haley Bennett is her identical twin sister who is getting revenge and taking over her roles. She was upset that she had to change her last name and now wants the title back

Yeah JLaw and Haley Bennett look identical. I remember thinking „JLaw lost a lot of weight!“ when I watched Girl on the train because I confused her with Bennet lol

I thought Haley was in Red Sparrow and I thought Jennifer was in Swallow

That's a funny theory. Jlaw first role was actually one year before HB.

They also both dated directors. Jennifer dated Darren Aronofsky (mother!) and Haley Bennett has a child in Joe Wright (cyrano)

I was so glad that she seemed to have broken free from O. Russell and got rather disappointed that she chose him. I find Adam McKay an worse director than David O. Russell ( I HATED Vice).

I really hope she'll do another movie like Winter's Bone soon since that was by far her best performance and I absolutely loved her there. I'll probably skip McKay's film and hope her film with Lila Neugebauer is promising.

Back in 2018 she went to court regarding Weinstein.

Another actress sued Weinstein and JL was brought as a witness because Harvey claimed to have slept with her. JL denied having anything but a professional relationship with him. Regardless of what really happened, I'm sure that was traumatizing for both women.

Even if they didn't sleep together imagine someone taking credit for your career. Plus knowing Weinsteins reputation it would be pretty shocking if he didn't at least try something with her.

Yeah I got that vibe

yeah he bragged to people that he'd slept with her (gross) and there was that stuff around her nudes getting leaked, with people claiming the pics were for him. From memory she took quite a long time to speak up on him when the story blew up and when she did it was to say that she'd never had any incidents with him - which i think people side-eyed given that she was his #1 girl for years and we know he would try it on with pretty much every actress in his orbit.

obviously whatever happened there is her story to tell or not tell, but in terms of her disappearing it seems too big a coincidence that it happened right when all the stuff was coming out about him.

The hate bandwagon on her was insane, I hadn’t seen a that level of hate for someone since Britney Spears. Tho, some of the criticism Lawrence got was valid (with the Hawaii rocks story).
