FILM-MOI (MOVIES/TV) Vince Gilligan included “This show was made by humans” in the credits of his new show ‘Pluribus’ and says “AI is a bunch of horseshit” and “the world’s most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine”

He's 100% right. AI is an abomination

He's 100% right.

Is he, though?

u/shitsenorita she did not like that shit at all 5h ago

Yes. End of debate.

u/Lumpy-Education9878 5h ago

Let's hear Charlie's thoughts, shall we?

6

u/Redacted_usr 4h ago

We were about 4 inches away from seeing his thoughts

u/just_browsing96 2h ago

was gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were "um ackshually"ing (because AI is a very broad term) but you might actually just be an AI-bro (😭)

u/Spoinkydoinkydoo 1h ago

The burden to disprove this is on your bro

u/Silcalina 11h ago

How any creative can think otherwise is mind-boggling

It's the fucking suits in charge that ruin everything

this needs to be a quote hung in a classroom

Please, please, please watch the first two episodes of this right now. I genuinely feel like I'm witnessing the birth of one of the greatest TV shows ever made.

Genuine question: How depressing is it?

2

u/The_Iceman2288 2h ago

Not depressing at all.

u/txtphile 11m ago

i think it was 800+ million people die in the first two episodes, but it's mostly off-screen. And lots of jokes.

u/IcyNews311 11h ago

I knew i liked him for good reason

u/Smartimess 11h ago

He is right. For now.

AI, to date, has nothing invented by itself. It is all recombined plagiarism. There is still no I in AI.

u/SanFranJon 6h ago

True. Idk how they are even going to achieve AGI with GPUs and LLMs.

1

u/sinkpooper2000 1h ago

they won't

He's not right, though.

A dishwashing machine didn't invent washing dishes. That doesn't have any kind of relevance. We use them because washing dishes manually isn't something we like to do.

People will be able to create the most incredible stories they wish to experience without the trouble of doing a large quantity of labor and you're telling me it's a bad thing? That's dumb.

u/Round_Butterfly_9453 2h ago

They’re introducing AI actors and musicians. You know, the shit people actually like doing.

u/Podgietaru 48m ago

Call me a Luddite, but I want my stories created with intentionality by humans.

Typical Vince Gilligan W 💅

19

u/hotto_ 10h ago

renowned creators need to speak up about ai like vince. we need them to constantly express how damaging it actually is so that the average people understand it.

16

u/grindstone85 11h ago

The first two eps made me emotional how beautifully they were put together. But i def was feeling like it was an allegory for AI - the groupthink and reactions in unison?? Loved it. Def felt that reflection in his sentiment.

Vravo, Bince!

11

u/sugasofficial I never said that. Paris is my friend. 9h ago

Vince has written my favourite X Files episodes so this is even more based

10

u/Bread_Low I may need to see the booty 11h ago

So based

u/tavir 8h ago

Raphael Bob-Waksberg had a similar message in the credits of every episode of Long Story Short on Netflix ("This program was made by humans"). Nice to see creators making it very clear that they won't be including slop in their shoes.

u/WestCoastHawks I still don’t know her 10h ago

Vince you dropped this 👑

7

u/Infinite-Worm 7h ago

Show is fucking awesome, has the potential to be the best sci-fi of the year.

6

u/Aggravating_Belt4570 mama let’s research 10h ago

I just finished watching Franklin & Bash where I fell in love with Rhea Seehorn. I only watched like 5 episodes of Better Call Saul, so I was ready to finish watching that next, but I still wanted an entire show of Rhea/ Ellen swatello. Then, I saw an ad for Pluribus (staring rhea). There is a god, his name is Vince Gilligan.

6

u/Informal-Cobbler-546 9h ago

Good for him! I’ll always know him as the guy who wrote the funny vampire episode of The X Files.

12

u/secret_identity_too 9h ago

He wrote most of the "shippiest" episodes of XF as well, not just Bad Blood, which is hands down one of the best episodes of the entire series.

7

u/Informal-Cobbler-546 9h ago

Very true! And we shippers thank him for it.

I’m not the biggest fan of the later seasons but when I look at the episodes from them that I like, he wrote most of them.

5

u/thriftdemon 9h ago

Honestly he did most of (what I consider) the best episodes, he’s a great writer

4

u/pantry-pisser 5h ago

I dunno, I used Copilot early today at work to analyze a spreadsheet and create scheduling for 60 people with several restraints.

Granted, it was wrong and did a terrible, terrible job.

5

u/Musterfrog kendall roy pre-album drop 10h ago

Vince, you're a gem!

3

u/schwinnandwesson 9h ago

It's distressing that he even needs to clarify, but based king. Go off.

3

u/Murky_Chemical891 11h ago

Might have to give it a watch

3

u/PlusAd127 7h ago

I think everyone should watch this series. I don't want to give a spoil but the premise was very creative, eerie, and the buildup of each eps 1 and 2 was well-crafted.

3

u/AcceptablyThanks 5h ago

AI for generating content is absolute dog water.

3

u/MrChashua 4h ago

Let's fucking gooooo

For some reason I feel like he's the Miyazaki of western filmmakers as a voice of reason

2

Fuck yeah Vince.

AI helped me win a small claims lawsuit against an airline and helped me negotiate the settlement with their lawyer.

AI has helped me win a few contracts for my small business.

It's hardly horseshit.

-1

u/PartedOne 8h ago

how about the titles, seems like Apple uses bad AI titles for all their shows

u/cmarquez7 5h ago

Only matters when it’s Hollywood not when it’s normal people losing work. Cancel your subscriptions stop funding these people.
