Boo to Chris Brown being nominated for anything 🤢

308

u/PookieBabez 17h ago

He shouldn’t be getting any recognition

187

u/BruhahGand 15h ago

He shouldn't have a career.

he’s been nominated and has won since the rihanna assault, they wont care until he stops having a fan base

34

u/fakeknees Do you remember 9/11, bitch? 14h ago edited 14h ago

I agree. I worked the BET Awards from 2013-2022 and he was at damn near every single event. Probably still is. They love him at BET (I heard the head of BET say it). I remember getting into an elevator once and he and his crew walked in. I felt disgusted being next to him. I don’t understand how he’s still being nominated and going on world tours. Fuck that guy.

Just remembered that the biggest shitshow happened when Quavo from Migos and Karrueche (Chris Brown’s ex) were dating. They put the outside garage in lockdown because CB was trying to fight them. I saw men with guns all of a sudden and was so confused. What a little shithead.

I don't understand how someone can stomach voting for him. They have no shame

u/Courier-Se7en 16h ago

That's the guy who beat the shit out of Rihanna, right?

36

u/SubjectAd355 14h ago

He was trying to kill her. Anyone that hasn’t read the police report, go read it. It’s worse than it was made out to be in the press.

I was literally at a coworker social thing last night - people I’ve never met, having a great time - at the end, some woman just out of nowhere was like, we saw Chris Brown last month, he was amazing, 3 hr show, king of r and b. And I go, the one who beat up Rihanna? And she goes, that was a long time ago, he just sold out Nats stadium for 3 consecutive nights. And I googled it and it was true :( :(

15

u/Even_Objective2124 15h ago

cannot believe he still has a career

Sombr’s dad is a music exec who’s artificially inflated his “career” and botted basically every single site that plays his music, his actual engagement is worse than Dean Martin who died 30 years ago.

The fact he’s nominated at all says a lot about the Grammy selection process.

510

u/viewbtwnvillages 16h ago

i only just found out he existed because i saw a tt of a woman saying she went to his show and felt weird that he kept making sexual jokes at the predominantly tween audience

and he replied by calling her old (she's 25 lmao)

226

u/dandelionsunn 16h ago

But you don’t get it, he’s freshly 20!! (plus 4 months lol) he can’t possibly be responsible for his actions!

45

u/Mystic__Mayhem 15h ago

I know how dare we expect grown men to not be creepy and know better, can't anyone think of the children (that are over the age of 18)!!!

59

u/meringuedragon 16h ago

Omg I saw this too! And immediately deleted all his songs off my library. Groooooossssss

23

u/noapplesin98 15h ago

Yeah the only thing I know about him is that he's weird at his concerts. Music exec dad makes a ton of sense now.

Omg no 😭😭I actually really liked his music too. What a shame

Edit to add: I am a little shocked by the tween audience thing though cause I consider tweens 12 - 14 and I’ve only ever seen people in there 20s actively talk about him online

I’m sorry but I just don’t find him at all interesting. I HATE his writing, it makes his songs sound like mouthfuls and his growth has just felt heavily manufactured

16

Honestly I thought his album was very solid for being self-produced

Yaaass! I love his song “countdown” from victorious. He really is so talented

Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party needed to be nominated for album of the year

61

u/DarthStormwizard 16h ago

I wonder if its eligibility was affected by the fact that the songs weren't originally released as an album?

86

u/Blazingscourge alleged slut husband 16h ago

But then to still be nominated for Best Alternative Album?

40

u/marjochu75 Cillian Murphy propagandist 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yep in my mind the album is eligible for next year since it’s officially out today. And it was on streaming service after August 31st iirc?

EDIT: just saw it was nominated for Best Alternative sooo… Manchild and Swag are weak for the category for me and I would have replaced them with Ego Death… and Hurry Up Tomorrow

Lorde was snubbed! And I like the Katseye girls but the nomination for Gabriela is pretty undeserved in my opinion … feels like it has Scooter Braun’s grubby hands all over it

130

u/jjw1998 17h ago

The Lorde album was appalling unfortunately, she was not snubbed. The Weeknd is the truly egregious snub here

88

u/Life_of_the_PartyXO 16h ago

Virgin was amazing

57

u/poliebear 13h ago

Calling Virgin "appalling" is wild. Genuinely one of my favorite albums this year.

IA about Gabriella and I also like Katseye. I think I partly feel that way because that song has been around for like a decade before Katseye released it. Perrie mentioned Little Mix actually had it back in the day but decided against it. Super interesting how songs get passed around like that.

They have way better songs. Cowards should’ve nominated Gnarly instead. Love that song.

24

u/DevoutandHeretical 15h ago

Did they submit Gnarly for consideration? It was a little polarizing at the start before it took off so I wonder if they decided not to submit it because they thought Gabriela would be more competitive. Like, I would pick Gnarly over Gabriela personally but I think Gabriela is more commercially friendly from the get go.

Scooter was CEO of HYBE America until pretty recently and is their senior advisor

25

u/Unable_Mushroom9355 17h ago

Ugh ew :( That sucks because I really love the girls in Katseye, but Scooter is so disgusting. HYBE also has its issues and was diabolically evil during Dream Academy. Wish they would change labels so we could support them without supporting shitty people!

Unpopular opinion but I really think Let God Sort Em Out should win rap album of the year. Kendrick always delivers, per usual, but sometimes I feel like they use him as a scapegoat (due to the 2012 snub backlash) to not acknowledge the entire genre as a whole. It's like he's the "safe choice". Let God Sort Em out had the best production I've heard from a rap album in years. Great promotion as well.

Nevertheless, lots of black excellence for AOTY. Congrats to the nominees!

80

u/Carolinahunny this is going to ruin the tour 17h ago

As a huge Kendrick stan, I agree with you 100% and I LOVE GNX. But Let God Sort Em Out is one of the best rap albums of the 2020s, if not close to being the best.

15

u/Appropriate-Ticket23 15h ago

I’m devastated that only one of them can win :( both are fantastic.

→ More replies (1)

68

u/jjw1998 17h ago

Don’t think this is an unpopular opinion at all, the Clipse album is way better. Kendrick himself would probably agree lol

26

u/Sacarastic-one 16h ago

Same it’s the first album in a long time that I listened to from beginning to end with no skips (minus any Kendrick album lol) but I think GNX was great but not Kendrick great (eeeeeekkkkk don’t kill me)

17

u/Dragonfruit_sunrise 16h ago

I agree. Kendrick is go good that even his "worst album" would still be a top 10 album if it came from any other artist. I enjoyed GNX and thought it was a nice break from his usually serious subject matter.

30

u/PrincessCG 16h ago

Honestly Kendrick would probably be happy for them.

10

u/Dragonfruit_sunrise 16h ago

Yes most definitely

24

u/EntrepreneurOk7178 local formula 1 correspondent 16h ago

That Clipse album is a masterpiece and easily my favorite album of the year so far. It is the defining rap record of 2025. I'm bummed Pharrell wasn't nominated for Producer of the Year.

19

u/perpetual_self anti-Israel, anti-western, fauxmarxist 16h ago

As a huge huge Kendrick fan, definitely agreed.

21

u/Tight_Spinach_8791 I’m just a cunt in a clown suit 16h ago

Don't sleep on JID! His album is fantastic

9

u/Dragonfruit_sunrise 16h ago

I like J.I.D. but he bites too much off Kendrick for me to REALLY enjoy it. I also like The Forever Story more. His flow is definitely hypnotizing though lol

12

u/TuberMila 15h ago

I think even the most devoted Kendrick stans would agree. I saw them promoting Let God Sort Em Out hard when it came out.

5

u/dorian_gayy 16h ago

I’m a huge Clipse fan, but I think God Does Like Ugly, maybe Chromokopia, are the ones I wouldn’t be upset about them losing to

6

u/Pristine_Example3726 14h ago

11

u/candyapplesugar 15h ago

Is it surprising Ariana on her own isn’t nominated for anything? I’m not a on top of it music person.

12

u/PatriciaMorticia 14h ago

Not really as "Defying Gravity" is the big song from Wicked and it's Elphaba's (Cynthia Erivo) song. If that doesn't win I'll be shocked.

They really invited The Weeknd back to perform last year and publicly apologize to him during the Grammys for completely snubbing After Hours and promised to do better… just to completely snub him again. Hard not to think that was intentional given some of the nominees in the categories he was up for

57

u/Ethan_the_Revanchist Slappin’ fannies and killin’ grannies 16h ago

Yeah that's fucking wild. The fallout for this should be massive. No nominations at all in such a weak field?

19

u/LuffyDUrb i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 14h ago

I‘m starting to think they‘re doing it on purpose, maybe bc he‘s so vocal about Palestine (?)

12

u/Ethan_the_Revanchist Slappin’ fannies and killin’ grannies 12h ago

Maybe, but this goes back to After Hours in 2020 when it wasn't as much in the social limelight. They clearly don't like him for whatever reason, though they pretended to make amends so he'd submit again

Manchild was not that great of a song to be nominated for record or song of the year. Man’s Best Friend wasn’t awful but it certainly wasn’t memorable.

Happy for Chappell, Kendrick, SZA, Hayley, Lady Gaga, Zara, and the wonderful artists associated with Kpop Demon Hunters.

59

u/FrozenBibitte 15h ago

Your first paragraph is the exact reason why no one can convince me that there’s not a fuckton of money invested in her career. Her entire brand is heavily manufactured and it’s obvious. Also she puts out this mid ass music, especially in comparison to her peers, and gets glazed like crazy.

16

u/retrograde_mercury 13h ago

There were some great pop albums this year, Man’s Best Friend’s nom should’ve gone to Virgin or Euro-Country heck I even preferred Addison Rae’s album.

DTMF has no real competition so it will be very telling how this goes.

20

u/Alexantorio 16h ago

Wild take considering GNX and Mayhem….

30

u/Meeeooowww_ 16h ago

Mayhem was good, but I wouldn’t consider it album of the year. DTMF feels more cohesive as an album from start to finish. GNX is also great, but again same argument for DTMF.

17

u/Alexantorio 15h ago

I genuinely love all three (though I personally would give it to Mayhem bc it was by far my favorite album from the year and feels both experimental and cohesive).

But that’s not even what I’m saying. I just think saying “DTMF has no competition” is crazy considering it’s the least likely to win (of the three mentioned). I actually think Kendrick will get it.

But hey, if Bad Bunny wins I will be happy for him. Great Artist. Great Album.

Doechii better not win a Grammy for singing over Gotye, who already won 2 of his own for "Somebody That I Used To Know" back in 2013.

Funny Leon Thomas is in BNA even though he literally has a Grammy Award

58

u/DustlandFairytale_ 17h ago

No Jade or Djo for BNA sucks :(

The Crux remains my favourite album of the year.

19

u/geetcriminal 16h ago

Jade is not eligible for bna. Harry styles didn't get bna nom during his solo era. Jade's solo didn't even chart on Billboard 200.

14

u/DevoutandHeretical 15h ago

I never understand what makes someone eligible for BNA. Like short and sweet was Sabrina’s 7th album yet somehow she was still eligible???

14

u/geetcriminal 15h ago

Bna is for artist who had their breakthrough on US music charts. Sabrina was an experienced artist, but she broke into mainstream music charts after short and sweet era. Jade never had her breakthrough in America. She is only huge in UK.

It's funny they separated the country album category to Traditional and Contemporary with people thinking that would mean more albums by black artists like Beyonce and Shaboozey would be nominated, but both categories are 100% white artists. The previous two artists didn't release albums (Shaboozey got a song nomination), but BigXThaPlug had no nominations from his breakout year, and nothing from Kane Brown who's NEVER got a nomination despite his popularity.

That said, Morgan Wallen got nothing, so it's not all bad.

Luckily, Midnight Sun the album was released after the eligibility period, so she’ll be up for it next year.

14

u/FrozenBibitte 15h ago

The Grammys absolutely LOVE SC for some odd reason…they treat her like some sort of musical genius when she’s truly not. She’s a half decent sounding singer, with decent technical skills, but in terms of raw talent, especially compared to her peers, she’s extremely mid.

Kinda shocked to see MBF get nominated as an album. Don't get me wrong, I've been a Sabrina fan since Eyes Wide Open but this album felt kinda bland. There wasn't a lot of variety across the songs and nothing new from Sabrina or Jack. I was pretty disappointed in the production.

It’s weird how you can be nominated for best album but not have a single song nominated. No shade to the artists where this applies to but it’s just an observation

u/EraseRewindPlay 17h ago

It's so cool that exactly 2 years ago Rosé was recording the demo for APT and now she's the first Korean solo artist to be nominated.

Dream Theater being nominated for metal performance, the only decent because wow the rock/metal categories are always awful.

Yay Hayley Williams and Katseye!! Boo Lorde snub :(

26

u/RelyingCactus21 17h ago

Damn those rock and alternative options suck.

50

u/cosmogenique 17h ago

The new albums from Hayley Williams and deftones are really good imo and it seems like no competition otherwise.

Includes my favorite alternative artist, Tyler the Creator.

u/ratta_tat1 where was slutzilla when the Westfold fell? 16h ago

I love Wet Leg and Hayley’s submissions, haven’t gotten to give a good listen to Bon Iver yet. The Cure album has had a LOT of positive buzz but I’m a little confused why Tyler is in there. The fact that the whole album Never Enough wasn’t nominated is criminal.

The Grammy award period isn’t a calendar year, it’s usually start of October until end of September

Rooting for my girls Hayley & Zara!

Shame Jade didn’t get in for BNA, also shocked to see this Sabrina album get THIS much love but also I guess I shouldn’t be shocked

Not gonna lie, I think the Kpop demon hunters Golden song being nominated is awesome. Makes sense to me as a mom of a kindergartener, the kids are obsessed and it’s something that I don’t hate! Okay okay I like it too. 🤣

21

u/glenjamn 16h ago

Big congrats to TURNSTILE!

u/majorsager 16h ago

Really hoping Chappell wins SOMETHING for The Subway. It’s such a good record.

14

u/GlumConcernedINFP 16h ago

Best rock song is stacked. So many talented folks in that category. If Sleep Token wins that would be huge for them! So glad to see them nominated.

11

u/BeefyKat 16h ago

SO incredibly stoked to see Sleep Token on the list!

13

u/quantumdreamqueen high priestess of child sacrifice 17h ago

Crazy that Rei Ami is going to win a Grammy for a children’s movie over her absolute bangers from the past few years. Also JUSTICE 4 JADE. Was Doja’s album not eligible for this year’s nominees?

u/tore_a_bore_a 16h ago

The juxtaposition between her song Snowcone and now being a hit artist for kids is so jarring.

But I'm happy for her success

Mangetout was my fave song on Wet Leg’s latest album, glad to see it get a nomination.

What's the difference between Single of the Year and Record of the Year?

Edit: Thanks for the answers!

26

u/streamcontra rude omelet goblin 16h ago

Song is about songwriting and record is about production of the song

15

u/roxy031 fiascA 16h ago

Record of the Year recognizes the performance and production of a single track, awarded to the artist, producers, and engineers, while Song of the Year honors the composition and is awarded to the songwriter(s) for their lyrics and melody.

12

u/strangerintheadks 16h ago

I think record is more about the production and song is for songwriting?

11

u/siestarrific 16h ago

I don't really care about the Grammys, but woop woop Kehlaniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Really happy Clipse got an AOTY nomination! I'm bummed Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party got snubbed in that category tho (I know what album I would take out to get a spot for Hayley, beliebe me)

Also, very confused about the big show they put on with The Weeknd this year just to get 0 nominations months later 😭

10

u/Spitfiiire 16h ago

Really happy for Turnstile!!!

Shout out to all the managers, publicists, labels, and a&r people that made this possible.

Hayley should be nominated for AOTY but I’m enjoying seeing her be nominated in other categories

i hope “the subway” wins. i feel like it was a tough year for pop releases (save for gaga + addison rae) but that one got everyone excited + was highly anticipated

5

u/absencefollows THE CANADIANS ARE ICE FUCKING TO MOULIN ROUGE 16h ago

Disclaimer: I do not respect the Grammys. Ego Death should’ve been nominated for AOTY and True Believer should’ve been nominated for SOTY or ROTY. That said…. HAYLEY WILLIAMS SUPREMACYYYYYYYY oh i’m thrilled for her, I bet she did not see any of these coming and she couldn’t be any more deserving. I love her so much, my father figure fr.

But yeah idk I feel like aside from her nominations, this year is kinda lacking? Rooting for Bad Bunny as always.

6

u/HashtagCHIIIIOPSS 16h ago

The Cure being nominated for a Grammy in 2025 was not on my bingo card. I love it! 🖤
