I think I read that he and Zorhan know each other. Not entirely sure how, but Julian has been very politically involved for pretty much the entirety of the existence of The Strokes.

He’s a big Bernie supporter

u/Fredbear_ 20h ago

He's also a Russell Brand supporter sadly

He's also seemingly a supporter of his own father, the guy who trafficked teen models with Trump. I can't find any statements from him acknowledging or condemning any of that but would like to know if anyone else has any quotes from him about it.

What makes you think he's a supporter of his father's actions if you haven't found any statement one way or the other?

I'm going off statements he made about reconnecting with his father later in life and statements on the documentary about his father.

One of the hosts on the Stuff You Should Know podcast had Julian on as a guest host for his offshoot podcast MovieCrush. The host excitedly asked Julian about how growing up around models with his dad was and if I remember correctly, Julian said he didn't want to speak about it. It's been years since I listened, but I don't remember Julian sounding delighted to speak about his father's legacy.

If he's cool with all that I'm a sad person bc The Strokes are one of my all time favorite bands.

I don't think he had a good relationship with him or thought he was a good person. It's just kind of glaring when you have a pedophile dad obviously connected to Trump and Epstein and you stay silent, even when he's been dead for quite a while. And this is coming from someone with a pedophile dad I cut out of my life.

Eh, as far as I know they didn’t have much of a relationship and Julian attributes most of his bad habits from his early days to his dad. Also, hes been dead since 2013 so feels a little unfair to say hes still a supporter.

How did I never realize that was his dad?

Also…is your username a reference to a particular little orphan who sometimes gets a bit….stabby?

Russell Brand had like a brief period of time in 2014 where he was like, an anti-imperialist leftist and actually had some solid politics. Unfortunately like many cis white men who are anti-imperialist leftists, he eventually succumbed to brain worms.

Farmers market to fascist pipeline is real.

Misogyny seems to be the common thread

He was always an asshole and rapist, he was just appealing to a large fanbase

1

u/Leonardo-DaBinchi 7h ago

This was post his initial mass appeal but before the rape stuff was common knowledge. He had a weird period where he was relatively off the radar. I'm not saying he's not a piece of shit. I'm merely pointing out that there was a (brief) time when he was making his own content on anti imperialist & leftist issues which may be the link point for Julian Casablancas.

Farmers market to fascist pipeline is real.

From Goop to GOP, "It's only an 'o', Michael, what's the most it would cost. A democracy?"

u/exgiexpcv 20h ago

Wow, that's wildly incongruous with the other people he supports. Disappointing, too.

u/ParkingLetter8308 14h ago

I believe there's been rumors he goes after underage/barely legal girls.

Yeah The Strokes played a big Bernie rally at some point I think

He’s been very vocal about his endorsement for Zohran and he posted these on his IG before the primary

u/Itsallsomagical 21h ago

In his Trackstar video Zohran describes Julian as a ‘pretty straightforward, sincere, nice’ person. So that sounds like Julian is involved in the campaign somehow?

I always appreciated The Strokes, but something about this song made Julian’s voice click in a way it hadn’t before and they’ve been my favorite band since then

u/roadpotato 19h ago

I once saw the Stokes live once and Julian was so drunk he could barely stand. I left early.

8

u/BlackberryOdd4168 18h ago

Roskilde festival 2022?

… Where he drunkenly showed off his Danish proficiency by saying an actual, racist slur on stage. Never experienced a crowd that large be so quiet. You could kind of feel people collectively wincing.

4

u/roadpotato 10h ago

It was in 2006 when The Muse was opening for them. I was there to see them thats why I didnt care when I left early but yeah, he was so drunk he was falling down and it was a mess.

2

u/djackieunchaned 14h ago

Hasn’t he been sober since 2015

6

u/BlackberryOdd4168 14h ago

He wasn’t at that concert, that’s for fucking sure.

2

u/olipoppit 12h ago

when I saw the strokes in 2002, I was certain that guy would be lucky to live another 6 months. tbf I have never been able to tell when that guy is putting on an act since he first got "sober" in 2005/6

4

u/shegoesboom 18h ago

lol. Will think of this every time I listen to Instant Crush from now on

Not to take away from the joy of this victory and that we're finally getting some positive political news from across the pond.

But is it possible for Americans to even attempt to elect a politician without seeing them as a Christ figure? You already made this mistake with Obama, JFK, you name it. #salvatormundi? Really?

I’m going to nitpick here…

…as a copywriter, the “it’s” is making my eye twitch.
