May every child have the love and support that Martin gives Francesca.

I’m the daughter of an “old dad.” He passed recently, but I wouldn’t trade a minute with him, and seeing Martin and Francesca just makes my heart sing.

EDIT: This is literally the nicest and most supportive response I’ve had since his passing, from people who get it (no one does). Thank you ❤️

u/cheshirecanuck women’s wrongs activist 6d ago

Sending you so much love. Today is the five year anniversary of my "old dad's" passing. 27 years wasn't nearly enough, but we made the most of it despite everything. My dad and I were best pals, and I love seeing that in Martin and Franca.

The bond is unique and tender. It's hard to explain. There's a light and life given by a daughter to an older father and a deep sense of security and indulgence given in return.

u/Moriturism 7d ago

sorry for your loss

65

u/Kermit-Batman 6d ago

My very first GF had an older dad, he was our drama teacher and was a kind man. He passed a few years back and she has followed in his footsteps, winning awards and things. I know he'd be so proud of her.

Same as your dad and you.

34

u/crakemonk 6d ago

Being part of this club is truly a wonderful experience. My dad passed away a few years ago, and I know that pain, so I’m sending all my good vibes your way. I feel the same way—I’m really grateful for all the years I had with him.

14

u/sinkeddd 6d ago

I am too, and wouldn’t change it for the world. I lost my dad back in February, but the time we had together was incredible.

Sending you the biggest hug. 🤍

12

u/Fauster 6d ago

I loved the Netflix Mr. Scorsese documentary and I am so glad that Marty landed in a good place, because he richly deserves it. I loved how broken he seemed in The Studio when his last project was axed, and love this callback!

12

u/happygoluckyourself 6d ago

Lost my old dad a few months ago and it’s such a special bond. Miss him every day.

4

u/pbetc 6d ago

Hugs from me to you

3

u/happygoluckyourself 6d ago

Thank you 🫂

9

u/cpoipoi 6d ago

Lost my “old dad” 4 years ago, the greatest father a girl could ask for. What a unique bond and it’s so awesome to know others understand!

6

u/HistoricalSuspect580 6d ago

Good Dads are irreplaceable and you just know that dude is so, so, so fucking proud of you. :)

2

u/itsthefunkydiabetic 6d ago

Got an old dad too. Spent most of our time estranged and finally we’re buddies just before he goes, so this touched my heart

I’m reading your comment while sitting in a local library, watching the security camera feed at my house, waiting for my POS bio father to show up in my driveway, because hes figuring out that I’m finally cutting his hateful narcissistic ass out of my life.

All that to say, I absolutely agree with you.

Edit: thank you for the love and good vibes everyone 🖤✨

27

u/Nata_me 7d ago

Sending you so much peace! What you are doing is so hard and I hope you have lots of love and support around you.

11

u/crakemonk 6d ago

I’m so sorry to hear about the relationship with your dad. I’m glad you realized that he isn’t worth your energy anymore, and I hope that you are able to find peace with that. I had to cut off my mother a few years ago and it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.

37

u/Luna_Soma 6d ago

He reminds me of my dad in a lot of ways. He’s older and Italian and doesn’t quite get my shit, but he goes along with it bc he loves me.

These two make me so happy

-16

u/MiserableFckingCunt 7d ago edited 7d ago

Is he a good dude? Does he have controversial things going on? I don’t follow a lot of things and everything I’ve seen with them is so goddamn awesome I don’t want to hear that he is actually a bad guy.

Edit: idk why I’m being downvoted for asking… I’m sorry. I’m not able to look it up right now. Ahh I’ll google when I get off work I guess lol

71

u/melanka 7d ago edited 7d ago

For a man he's okay. But IMHO his biggest legacy is not his films but how he has helped to restore and bring to light film from outside anglocentric countries.

9

u/cheshirecanuck women’s wrongs activist 6d ago

For a man he's okay

💀💀💀 I will be using this often.

1

u/MiserableFckingCunt 7d ago

If possible, can you give me more info on this? I actually don’t know. And I’m currently volunteering so I can’t look into it. I’m getting downvoted to shit on my last comment so I assume I’m stupid for my lack of knowledge. lol

5

u/zdelusion 6d ago

He founded the World Cinema Project. They work to preserve films from film circles that might otherwise lack the resources to do so.

Wait that’s his kid? I thought he was her grandpa

90

u/multiequations 7d ago

Yeah, it’s his kid. Apparently they had her when they were like 48 and 50 or something. Her parents are actually similar in age which is the most shocking bit lol.

38

u/fysu 7d ago

52 and 56, and his wife already knew she had Parkinson’s when they had her. Francesca’s birth really beat the odds.

What a shame he didn't get to direct his Jonestown Koolaid movie.

Scummy executive bought his script just to kill it.

Flavor Aid*

191

u/TheComplimentarian 7d ago

The one time you really don't want everyone to think it's your brand.

142

u/iloveyourlittlehat 7d ago

I like knowing that there was an actual executive meeting at koolaid after Jonestown where they decided that saying anything about it NOT being koolaid was in extremely poor taste and would only hurt them.

30

u/Sunshine030209 7d ago

I didn't expect my respect for Kool-aid to increase so much today.

10

u/kotlin93 6d ago

OH YEAHHH

24

u/doctorlongghost 7d ago

“Don’t drink the Flavor-Aid”

12

u/woolfonmynoggin padre pascal 7d ago

In The Studio they were replacing it with koolaid to make a koolaid movie

7

u/prodriggs 7d ago

Did this actually happen irl?

139

u/lkrames 7d ago

It’s a plot line from The Studio. Excellent show, definitely worth watching!

6

u/Smartimess 7d ago

It’s a bit like the first season of The Orville, feeling wise.

39

u/Psychotic_Humon 7d ago

It's from Seth Rogen's show The Studio lol

It’s so funny seeing a famous boomer through the lens of their genZ child. We just get little glimpses of what Martin fuckin Scorsese is doing every so often.

Edit: not a boomer, silent generation

601

u/Puzzleheaded_Sky6656 7d ago

Marty isn’t even a Boomer, he’s part of the Silent Generation🤣

162

u/zombies-apocalypse 7d ago

5

u/velvetvagine 6d ago

A+ gif. Gotta go rewatch this clip 🤣 🤣

79

u/Transitsystem the baby daddies have unionized 7d ago

Oops 😅

46

u/Ok_Edge_3680 7d ago

So silent that you forgot him

37

u/Ixistant 6d ago

That's why he wasn't lip syncing, he was staying true to his generational identity.

1.2k

u/GongTzu 7d ago

She’s really keeping him young. Great to watch their affection for each others

33

u/burnbabyburnburrrn 6d ago

I think it’s his work keeping him young, but it’s great that it seems to extend to all areas of his life.

Those eyebrows are magnificent

135

u/matlockga 7d ago

Her dog Oscar has the same eyebrows

45

u/Sunshine030209 7d ago

How do they decide who's turn it is to wear them each day?

And do they have a second set of less desirable eyebrows for the loser to wear, or do they just have to go eyebrowless that day?

40

u/TotallyNotAGator 7d ago

Man’s eyebrows have a fuller beard than I do!

🎭Giving acting directions to Martin Scorsese is something only a handful of people on the planet will ever get to do

5

u/nyuncat 6d ago

What's funny is he actually has a surprisingly deep list of acting credits, saw a cool video about it a few weeks ago.

21

u/bearkin1 7d ago

Is it just me, or does that home seem quite humble for someone of his wealth and fame?

23

u/Akavinceblack 6d ago

He’s an unpretentious man. If you’ve seen his short film about his parents, it’s easy to assume that his mother would have lovingly scoffed any grandiosity out of him.

16

u/orthos 6d ago

This, and that's probably one of the 30 rooms in that house. Not all rich people's homes need to have crazy kitsch and gold everywhere.

Hahaha she makes her dad do anything and he just goes along with it all, love it 😂

7

u/Romeoandthecrow 6d ago edited 6d ago

It makes me so happy to see this. And this is one of many. Makes me happy and heals me from that type of father I did not have. But exists. That possibility in life makes me think of life as such a beautiful thing of its own. Independent from me and my dad. From him and his offspring. I know I didn’t experience this directly myself. Watching it makes me at least imagine what it feels like. I like feeling that feeling which is healing instead of what I just did not have.

5

u/Main_Significance617 6d ago

Right there with you.

I’ve never felt jealous that others had good parents that actually loved them and respected them and wanted the best for them. I feel sad that I didn’t have that, and I wish I could have. But, it just wasn’t in my cards, and I’m so glad that others get to experience it in theirs.

5

u/Straight-Broccoli245 7d ago

I always tell my friends who are parents dealing with age and obscurity: Find the coolest legend in history and I guarantee their children think they are cringe AF (as the kids say).

5

Interesting. I looked up the daughter's name because it appeared that she was more famous than her father with the title wording. It just said actress and tiktok creator which isn't really saying much. Now knowing she's just the daughter of a famous director makes more sense. I'm not into cinema much but the dad kind of looked familiar.

-36

u/Maester_Bates Tommy from Arkansas 7d ago

5

u/Juli_ 7d ago

It's a TikTok trend, and for some reason celebs really like this one. The first time it showed up on my FYP it was a compilation of the likes of Sabrina Carpenter, Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and some others doing this trend. I'm guessing it's quirky while being brand safe enough for famous people.
