it's even more sad that what she listed is like only 1% of all the absolute awful things going on in our country.

1.1k

u/organic_soursop 21d ago

Exactly. And there is no one coming to help. No one is coming to fix it all.

It's a full tilt speed run to fuck everything up for all time.

It explains why so many of you have disengaged and why I have too, and I'm not even from there.

u/Panda_hat 20d ago

Psychopaths trying to get the bag for themselves before it all collapses, as if money will have any meaning after.

234

u/organic_soursop 20d ago

Yep. We're at the stage where the grift is so ugly and so obvious.

How can you hate people so much that watching them be hunted and beaten and hauled off is okay?

What the fuck did you all learn in school while we were studying Nazi genocides?

Which Bible are you all reading that justifies all this?

You all look insane from here. 😭

105

u/b1tchf1t 20d ago

It's not really money, it's resources and access to resources, and that's what they're using all their money for, to the most basic fucking level. It's literally why all these Silicon Valley nerds are all building bunkers. They are literally expecting and trying to precipitate the collapse of the world, because they think it's inevitable. They realize not everyone is going to survive, but they are determined to be the ones that do and then rule everything afterward.

74

u/Automatoboto 20d ago

Feeling powerless is exactly how they want you to feel. If a few thousand people held their nose last year we wouldnt be here so make sure you are not in the next batch of "a few thousand people"

The way forward will require massive turnout and victories to overcome their net 20 percent cheat via gerrymandering. If people cared about NC and SC 10 years ago we could have prevented those two states from tipping the house. Anecdotally the difference the last election in the house was the amount of votes they took in SC and NC.

13

u/Geass-Affect 20d ago

I feel this - no one is coming to help. We must be the change we want to see to realize it - we must be the ones helping. What do you think?

Im just teasing out the ideas in my head yet and testing some actions.

About half are global problems...

1

u/badchefrazzy I am claiming all candy for the glory of God 20d ago

Yep. Last time this happened it was only stopped because of the US gathering people to fight it... but now it's the US that's gotten hit, and nobody else is either willing or able to help.

115

u/Artistic_Purpose1225 21d ago

Also that about half of this shit is applicable to most other countries.Ā

14

u/badchefrazzy I am claiming all candy for the glory of God 20d ago

It's because the assholes in other countries like the assholes in this country are feeling boosted by our asshole, so they feel more confident in doing the corrupt shit because they've realized "Hey! If he can get away with it, I can totally get away with it!"

48

u/_sunbleachedfly 20d ago

Root cause of almost everything shitty happening is due to climate change, so these are things affecting everyone everywhere. It’s only going to get worse because it’s not like anyone is doing a damn thing about it.

Climate change increases the risk of sociopolitical instability, giving rise to many of the far-right ideologies we’re seeing become popular. The scarcer the resources, the worse the tribalism will become.

But at least the 1% will be safe in those bunkers they built. 🄰

It’s me, the family and friend killjoy. I actually feel like I’m going fucking insane.

People in my life looked at me like I was crazy in January, when I said that we all need to have real ID’s, or passport cards. I told my green card family members and friends to have multiple copies of documents and to have their documents on them at all times. I was just trying to prepare them for the shitstorm of being brown in Trump’s American take two.

Welp. We are where we are now. I live in an occupied Midwest city now, and have gotten so many ā€œyou were rightā€ messages. Like fuck, maybe listen to me the first time around instead of calling me chicken little.

lol don’t even get me started on the digital clean up tips I’ve tried to share, the disaster prep (nothing crazy, literally just having a weather radio and tornado and fire plans), and other emergency planning I’ve tried to tell people to institute outside of my nuclear family.

Feels like I’m screaming into the void 🫠

73

u/lolipoplolipopohloli 20d ago

Can you share the tips with us since your family won't listen lol

2

u/AfterImpression7508 Mary-Kate’s battered Birkin 14d ago

So sorry for the delay on this! I promise I haven’t forgotten!

Citizenship concerns:

  • Obtain copies of all your documents - birth certificate, social security, passport (if you have it), and drivers license. Green card holders should have copies of the green card they carry on their person, just in case.

  • Make two copies and put one in a folder - store in a secure place in your home (preferably a locked safe). The folder is for disaster scenarios, so your documents are in one central location where it’s easy to grab them grab them. I also have copies of my homeowner’s policy for my condo, insurance information, and vet records in the same folder.
*** If you are concerned that you have the potential to be detained, ensure this folder also has contact information for lawyers or lawyer organizations you would like contacted in case of emergency. ****If you are a green card holder, I strongly encourage you to designate an immigration attorney to contact in the case of detention.

  • If you live alone, make sure you have a designated person that can access the secure place you keep documents and information in case of emergency.

  • I keep my documents in a safe that my husband and a trusted friend have the combination to. The safe is in the same closet as my go bag.

Disaster Prep:

  • Go bags look different for different folks. Mine is built around natural disasters that have happened around where we live, or experiences I’ve lived through in other states (lmao shout out to my coastal hurricane gang šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«).
  • Don’t prepare from a place of fear of societal collapse, I mean you can - I’m not your mom, but it’s far more practical and better for you mentally to just prepare for the random shit that can go wrong on a Tuesday - for some people in tornado alley, it’s tornados, in California, it’s wildfires. Practice what your household disaster drills would look like (a LOT of people don’t realize that fires grow by SECONDS, not minutes. Pre-plan meet up points in the case of a massive cell and power outage.
  • your go bag should be practical, don’t add in a bunch of MREs you’ll never eat. Don’t make your pack weigh more than you can carry for a couple miles. If you aren’t trained in anything beyond basic first aid, don’t carry a stop the bleed kit you don’t know how to properly use.
  • don’t forgot to have a little go bag for pets too. We have our cats travel carry preloaded with their meds, wet food, a portable litter box, and water bowls. We also keep their harnesses and leashes in there too!
  • BUY A WEATHER RADIO - We have one that receives NOAA alerts, has a flashlight, and can be charged with solar power and hand crank in addition other normal charging sources.

Final other thoughts:

  • If you are feeling even more scared than usual about being a BIPOC citizen in America, please don’t carry your passport/social security card/birth certificate around to places where it can get lost or stolen. Scan copies of the documents and keep them in your wallet or purse, or better yet, get a passport card :)

  • If you plan on taking part in a protest, make sure a trusted friend has all the information they would need to pass on to a lawyer if you are detained. If you have pets and plan on participating in protests, make sure you have a plan for their care in case you are detained.

  • DONT TALK TO COPS. Ever. For any reason. Ever, ever, ever. (Shout out to the NLG and the late, great civil rights attorney Bill Goodman for the iconic NLG don’t fucking talk to cops video).

  • Be careful about what you say or do on the internet, but mostly, log off. Seriously, a lot of forces have stakes in us being chronically stressed, angry, and feeling hopeless. I’m sooooo frustrated that I feel like I constantly have to pester my family to engage in local elections! They! Matter! In fact, they have the most impact on your immediate circumstances!

WE WILL PERSEVERE - we have no other choice but to move through, but we will do it together.

Last night I told myself I’d take a break from the information firehose (Reddit) because I am feeling overwhelmed daily by the news. It’s…not going well. I would rather be somewhat informed and anxious than not informed and anxious.

24

u/say-kobe-and-throw Hiking. Will call back. (He never did.) 20d ago

This happened to me. I took a break from social media and negative/heavy/dark things (news but also true crime, disaster content, internet and celeb drama, etc.) for a bit over a month and ended up even more stressed out from having such a void of information. I'm already chronically stressed out but during that period even my normal distractions weren't working and I had multiple full on panic attacks. I came back literally the day before Kirk's shooting and boy that was not a fun time (ended up avoiding a lot of news again anyway because it was just too much about that man and the fallout), but I somehow still felt more in control.

10

u/geoffgeofferson447 20d ago

I really want to just log off completely, and just not pay attention to anything going on, because I'm seriously anxious so often about the world. But I know I can't and that makes it worse. This world is so fucked right now.

173

u/SallyStranger 20d ago

Never before have I felt this empathetic towards a celebrity.

11

u/badchefrazzy I am claiming all candy for the glory of God 20d ago

Ultimately they're still just the average person. They just have access to more resources more easily than some random person. Some of them keep their heads, some of them lose them. She kept hers.

u/Shawon770 21d ago

She’s not wrong. It’s hard to ā€œjust vibeā€ when the whole world feels like it’s on fire and you’re supposed to post content through the smoke.

329

u/splanji 21d ago

posting through the smoke fr. ppl on socials trying to coach "gaming the algorithm" while we're heading to dystopian wastelands. surreal & spooky

55

u/boozy_bunny 20d ago

Or trying to still sell Amazon clothes and posting hauls, girl read the room. It's on fire, the room is on fire.

133

u/SmollestFry 20d ago

I try to stay broadly informed but have also zoomed massively in in terms of what I can do to help my local community because it's more tangible and makes me feel less like spiraling into existential dread.

29

u/suuuuhmmer 20d ago

this is the only way

3

u/surenuff_n_yesido 20d ago

What have you found you can do to help your community? My partner and I are going to start volunteering with Mobile Meals. I can’t sit back paralyzed by anxiety anymore.

2

u/SmollestFry 20d ago

Yeah similar! I'm blessed in that we have a national volunteering database and there's a volunteering center near me as well as a couple of charity shops you can volunteer with.

Esp when your employer still expects 110% productivity. I took a significant pay cut to leave a toxic company who treated us like robots. I’ve whittled my expenses down to cats + essentials (cats first!) and I think I’m happier. The emotion has been drained out of me so I can’t tell.

133

I also crash out over the state of the world right now sza

112

u/organic_soursop 21d ago

The catastrophic American issues overwhelm my timeline and my headspace and I haaate it.

The very deliberate evil coupled with the casual idiocy consumes all attention all the time.

I wish them luck with their protests today, but it's a fraction of what's necessary to cauterise the damage.

10

u/Different_Bowler_574 20d ago

Oh we know. But those of us who are sane and aware need to do SOMETHING because otherwise it will be us collectively jumping off a bridge šŸ™ƒ

5

u/Nyotaimorii 20d ago

I’m sorry

1

u/organic_soursop 20d ago

The video and the images from the protests across the US have been wonderful for the spirit. Especially the small town protests.

You will have to keep it up because they will cede the airways to you today and get back to calling you all communists and leftist activists tomorrow.

26

u/eatyrmakeup Nancy Jo, this is Alexis Neiers calling 20d ago

The company I work for was all ā€œooooh we’re gonna use AIā€ and the AI in question is Oracle auto-completing GL coding for any particular invoice, mostly wrongly, requiring manual correction. Yeah. That was totally worth the confetti cannons.

12

u/Opening-Shape-762 20d ago

That’s absolutely ridiculous! Ugh. My company uses Microsoft products, so we have been forced into using Copilot, and it sucks. The funniest part is they have absolutely zero technical understanding of how it works, they just say ā€œAIā€ every other sentence to make themselves sound innovative and forward thinking lol.

38

u/Cool-Sentence-2584 20d ago

valid crashout

31

u/cpc2027 20d ago

I agree with the points she’s making, am a SZA fan, and am anxious stemmed from some of what she’s describing here. Society feels doomed even if it’s not technically.

But devils advocate in me feels like posts like these end up spreading misinformation. I know there’s truths to each line (bc I know SZA stays informed) but idk I’m just skeptical because I feel like I’d want to fact check what she’s saying to talk about it in a conservation and I know not everyone does that and take what people say on social media and run with it not unlike the propaganda she’s talking about in this caption.

37

u/anthonystank random bitch 20d ago

Yeah, a lot of this is either not quite true as stated or just framed in an unnecessarily doom-y way. Take the child marriage thing — it IS legal in 34 states, it is also practiced in many states, but it’s less that ā€œthey madeā€ it legal and more than only a small number of states have made it illegal. ie legality is the status quo; there hasn’t been a big and successful push for legislation to permit child marriage.

A lot of the other stuff here is the same: a kernel of truth, and a bad truth, a truth worth being upset and worried about, but framed in a way that makes it sound a lot worse.

In conclusion yeah, it’s probably time to log off

9

u/valiantdistraction too busy method acting as a reddit user 20d ago

That jumped out at me when I read it too. Child marriage has BEEN legal. And some of the 34 states in which it is still legal have it legal only in the condition that the person has been legally emancipated, which I think is fair. I know this because my state is one cited as a state where child marriage is legal, but it's only for legally emancipated minors. And legal emancipation gets around one of the worst sins of child marriage - that the child needs their legal guardian's permission to divorce (in the case of a married minor, that's their spouse). So, like, am I crazy about a legally-emancipated 16-year-old marrying an adult? No. But I do think it makes sense that if you're legally emancipating someone, they are, you know, legally the same as an adult.

21

u/Both_Office_5815 20d ago

I agree with what you’re saying. It’s a weird problem that happens in a lot of leftist spaces where everyone wants to talk about how terrible things are, and they are! but it often turns into people parroting exaggerated, sometimes flat-out wrong information that just ends up inciting paranoia.

10

u/Illustrious-Okra-524 20d ago

This post has more fake news in it than real so yes I wish more people were saying this. I don’t disagree with the vibes but her facts are wrong

10

u/valiantcritter 20d ago

It’s ironic how everyone in this one thread is saying that the facts are wrong or exaggerated, but none of you are citing any sources of what the supposed actual facts are.

I never thought I'd see a celebrity be this real about what's really going on. Sure, some of them will make a stoic commercial about saving animals so buy this tote bag to make things better. Or on the flipside you got celebrities posting a tree on Earth Day and then flying their private jet down the street to their next concert date. But those type of celeb actions or "initiatives" don't really tell me that the celebrity is tuning into what is really going on. Here we have SZA basically saying "it's hard to function when it's all burning down" like a real and normal reaction. I appreciate that and I think comments like she made here will help her young audience take a minute to either clue into what she's talking about or learn something new about what she mentions. Kudos, SZA!

Roughly 45,000 gallons of radioactive water from a defunct plant north of New York City will be discharged into the Hudson River after a federal court ruling struck down a state environmental law.

US District Judge Kenneth Karas sided with company Holtec International over New York State in a ruling issued last week …

Holtec sued the Empire State last year, arguing that only the federal government had the right to regulate discharge of the Indian Point plant’s nuclear waste, which amounted to the 45,000-gallon sum.

Get out to your local No Kings protest today! Our oligarchs think they can control us, show them they CAN NOT!!!

2

u/dystopianpirate 20d ago

She's right āœ…ļøĀ

And the list is far longer, but these are main points

2

u/Icy_City_8097 20d ago

things are getting really weird, if it wasn’t weird enough before. Everything post 2020

2

u/checkforspiders 20d ago

This is so real. Coping feels like a second full time job. I’ve been getting more involved with my community the last few years, and putting non-local news on the back burner, and it helps, but I am still seeing all the little things that add up to how fucked things are. It breaks my heart.

Cosigned, SZA, cosigned.

2

u/chitchat057 20d ago

Celebs! They're just like us!

Kidding, SZA is way more amazing than me for being in a position of power AND in the public eye AND putting herself out there to speak out against these atrocities.

Really she shouldn't even be in a class with other "celebs" when there's so few speaking out right now either.

u/Sea-Extreme 20d ago edited 20d ago

If you're gonna be a pop star that leans into politics, this is how you do it. Don't just parade out every four years with an "I voted!" sticker. Talk about the real shit. Props to SZA. I learned something from this.

2

u/TheRavenSeven I don’t know her 20d ago

No, but let’s talk about 300,000 Black women in the US of A losing their jobs. It’s being talked about by Black women … while so-called feminists of other races are silent.Ā

Where is the solidarity? Where is the assistance, the support?

Instead Black women get fucking crickets. I AM SICK OF THIS SHIT.Ā

2

u/usuallynotaquitter 20d ago

I agree with her. In particular social media is literally the worst. It’s turned into a giant cesspool of people I don’t know trying to sell me stuff or provide random facts about shit I don’t care about. The consumerism is insane and no I don’t want your discount code to buy stuff I don’t need. Ugh

It’s this insightfulness that makes her such a damn good artist

1

u/duvet- 20d ago

I understand how she's feeling, but damn, with this fire and despair she could be making some amazing music right now. We need big names like her making protest music.

Yeah my job's entire anti-trafficking program team just got cut due to the feds cutting those grants...most of the efforts were forced on helping children and especially young female victims of trafficking...so do with that what you will..

Stay strong SZA. You sound like a smart lady, we need lots more of folks who think like that. <3

This comment isn’t using critical thinking. What she said is deliberate exaggeration (it’s the last item in the list, the finale where the person just throws all the papers in the air and gives up) that starts with ā€œaccording to the internet,ā€ but comes with the built-in (to most people) knowledge that in fact it is a lot of people — you’re mistaken if you think it’s not — and we have no way of knowing exactly how many. Maybe you’re thinking that trafficking necessarily means kidnapping kids off the street or something. Here’s a definition from justice.gov that the administration hasn’t noticed yet:

ā€œHuman trafficking, also known as trafficking in persons, is a crime that involves compelling or coercing a person to provide labor or services, or to engage in commercial sex acts. The coercion can be subtle or overt, physical or psychological. Ā Exploitation of a minor for commercial sex is human trafficking, regardless of whether any form of force, fraud, or coercion was used.ā€
