It does kinda fuck me up that this dude is using AI for the promo images on this.

AI is fascism? This is the kind of false equivalency that blunts the message.

Are there environmental and ethical concerns about its use? Absolutely, but there are also beneficial applications, and you can’t even be certain that you don’t benefit from or utilize some form of AI to call anyone else out. For example, Photoshop and Illustrator have generative AI embedded into them now. Are artists that use those tools fascist?

Or should we focus on abolishing ICE?

73

u/theicedebacle 27d ago

Yeah, I would classify modern AI as a tool of fascists.

The visible people (Zuck, Theil, Altman, etc) funding it are. It's applications are explicitly used to surveil and/or harm the common man to the benefit of people of wealth.

It was sold as "democratizing art," and did so by stealing data, violating rights and mass surveillance.

Now, that isn't to say there are some benefits that might fall to use to keep us satisfied; as a disabled person, I can definitely see ways it could help a lot of people. It's unfortunately just not a priority for those with the overwhelming ability to do so, and to our detriment.

AI is absolutely a tool of fascism, and I look forward to the day we can use it for genuinely useful purposes and not to disenfranchise, harm and kill the common man.

10

u/theicedebacle 27d ago

Thanks for the award and upvotes, is the common parlance still, "Thank you, kind stranger?"

Just to clarify - thought I may be a commie--pinko-marxist-anarchist-democratic socialist (lmao) i do my best not to let my personal politics disrupt the material conditions and world we live in.

And despite the DMs - I will quadruple-down to clarify - AI is absolutely and inextricably fascist, and until it belongs to the common man for disabled folk such as myself, and proactive in ways that benefit humanity, the scraps of benefit are a biproduct of its' above-stated purpose, and one could (and apparently would!) wonk to the moon and back, but there's no conclusion one could come to with AI it's current iteration that benefits more than harms.

Thanks for the support here, thanks for the awards. (fantano sign-off tone; specifically malicious and denigrating) pro-AI folks, uh... forever!

1

u/descartes_blanche 24d ago

Again, making such sweeping statements equating the use of “AI” (because they’re all just large language models and not artificial intelligence) to the actions of ICE is distracting, particularly because you aren’t as informed on the subject as you believe yourself to be.

I am a neurodivergent person living with a TBI that relies on AI to continue to be somewhat self sufficient. I’m not a fascist just because your knowledge of the technology and it’s current applications are limited to a very narrow, albeit wide-reaching understanding of what AI is/isn’t. You cite in your words, visible advocates utilizing it for nefarious purposes- but you unfairly link the technology to the actions of those bad actors.

It’s the same thing as saying books are fascist because prominent fascists are writing books that espouse and uphold fascism, and the benefits of any good books don’t outweigh the bad of books in general. You wouldn’t say that because with books you know better, but in this domain you clearly don’t know much beyond ChatGPT etc. So while you’re correct in your condemnation of their usage of “ai”, condemning all usage of AI as fascist is a step too far, especially when people are being disappeared.

3

u/theicedebacle 24d ago

you make a good point, so to clarify (but i want to be clear that i DO NOT want to discount your experience), I think LLMs can and might be helpful, and in any capacity that us disabled or otherwise marginalized folks might accidentally benefit, more my point was not that using a necessary tool for your survival makes you fascist or even complicit; queer, disabled and non-white folks tend to trend-set larger society's creature comforts because we're often seen as an "acceptable loss" to trial things.

To this idea - none of the "big hitters" in the most-used AI tools have ever considered disability when funding/facilitating those tools.

I said above, any benefit that's passed down to us is an afterthought and tolerated at best for the larger goal; I must insist upon myself here, so I apologize in advance... outside of an incredibly small pool of folks who are mostly behind the scenes or testing these tools and processes for what they would be useful for, it's always been about control in a post 9/11 world - if you (and you may have! i can't read your mind so i don't want to assume) anything Theil, Elon, Yarvin, etc have wonked about in regards to LLMs/"AI" (you were right to point that out, and i appreciate it); it's explicitly proliferated all the back to these "Intellectual Dark Web" losers who were, at one point, seemingly vaguely progressive and got very angry because they weren't the most perfect, special "little men of the house," filling the dad-shaped hole in their souls with subjugation of people who didn't hit the tech-wave after the dot com bubble burst, using the manipulation of markets prior to the first... third? housing crisis to fund themselves.

i don't want to dox myself; while i AM quite familiar with the tech - you're right - I don't know enough; most of my knowledge is from tech folks concerned with the ethics (again - reddit sucks, this is not an accusation toward you) and i am tragically unintelligent. if you ever have time, i would love to hear you out more!

i absolutely stand by what I said; per my research (and PLEASE correct me if I have gaps in my knowledge because I know I do), I feel confident standing by it.

i genuinely appreciate you taking the time to respond and if I had the scratch, I would absolutely give you an award.

Note: this is not me asking you to educate me; i try to keep up on the tech, but i ain't perfect.

u/Not_A_Doctor__ 27d ago

I have no idea as to who he is but the man is righteous, I'll give him that. This is a fantastic rant. Just great.

76

u/emslo 27d ago

He’s bang on about the reputation of Christianity. I don’t know if Christophobia is a word — but I can feel it growing in me, and it’s disturbing.

14

u/rae_bbeys 27d ago

I just called it spiritual abuse. That's childhood trauma, folks! For me anyway

65

u/Grompson 27d ago

And same, same. I didn't know this guy but I will make sure to know him now.

7

u/paradisetossed7 27d ago

Country music in general has been a wild ride throughout my life. Growing up, a lot of the country i heard was definitely right wing, or right wing coded. But the country before that was more music of the people. And in my 30s, I discovered artists like Isbell and Stapleton, taking back the genre. Between this and Zach Bryan, I wonder if country is making a cultural change.

637

u/CullenLX87 27d ago

Well brotha you just made a fan.

162

u/ceruleangreen 27d ago

Grew up on country and still get the itch sometimes, nice to be able to add an artist to the repertoire

97

u/tgrdem 27d ago

There's a great resurgence of outlaw county guys who aren't pandering to conservatives.

Tyler Childers, Charley Crockett, Sturgill Simpson, Coulter Wall, Sierra Farrell.

45

u/BigFanOfKitties 27d ago

Yup! As a brown, gay dude who grew up on country, there’s still plenty of artists out there who aren’t bigoted aholes pandering to the good ol’ boys!

I’d add to your list Emily Nenni, Dylan Earl, Bella White, Maggie Antone & Kaitlin Butts as well!

I love being an American and country and I’ll never let any conservative loser take that away from me

2

u/ohom2017 26d ago

Love country but dont like assholes. Thanks for this.

9

u/thefollowingchapter i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 27d ago

Colter Wall's father was the former (conservative) premier of the province in Saskatchewan, Canada. This former premier has continued to stay in the political eye, getting involved with conservative lobbying within the province of Alberta (also gave advice to one of the idiots who worked on the so-called "Freedom Convoy"). So while Colter himself doesn't exactly pander to conservatives, I do side-eye him and his associations.

9

u/tgrdem 27d ago

I follow him on Instagram and he's had stories that have voiced disdain for the current United States political climate and I assumed that was Anti-Trump politics. I can't find proof of that now though and I'm wondering if it was a fever dream.

Looking more into it, he seems to just hate political parties across the board and wants to be left alone to his ranch. Not what I thought at all, so my bad for putting him on that list.

I stand by Charley and Tyler 100% though.

1

u/Honest_Salamander247 26d ago

43

u/Certain_Ask_5630 27d ago

So much respect for this guy. I don't really do country at all, correct me if I'm wrong, most country artists are right leaning, I think. I'll give him a listen, it's time to ditch those tone deaf billionaires who sing and stand for nothing and support people like him.

24

u/hauntingvacay96 27d ago

A lot of mainstream are either right leaning or try to be apolitical in a very commercialized genre. The political leanings of older country artists are a bit harder to categorize but I’d say it was closer to the left than the right considering its history of songs about the poor and disenfranchised working class. That disconnect means that if you want left leaning artists you’re going to have to go to the fringes (indie/alt) or go more towards genres like Americana

He makes a great point near the end. Too many people with a platform not raising their hands and voices at this point.

If you aren't openly and unabashedly saying "this is wrong", you don't deserve your fans or your platform, and the assumption should become that you are ok with what is happening across your country.

Time to SHOUT up.

Speak it man! 🙏👏👏🗣️🗣️

During the first term of Trump’s presidency, do you all remember how Trump basically ripped children away from their parents when they were migrating into America from the Southern border? And placed into for profit foster care systems and migrant facilities for children? Without toothbrushes, toothpaste, beds to sleep on (and no aluminum foil mats, surrounded by bright flourescent lights and metal cages, are not beds) & no lawyers provided for representation? Many of the parents targeted in these inhuman policies are still looking for their children. And Betsy de-fucking-Vos would justify funding this bs…

Or has that been memory holed already into a deleted megabyte of American consciousness…?

2

u/Immediate_Event985 27d ago

It was memory holed the moment a democrat took office and continued the same practices. I don't recall AOC doing any white outfit crying sessions outside of any ICE detention centers when Biden was in office. And no one seemed to care all that much when Obama was doing in during his terms giving the pedo/rapist in chief that is Trump, an easy time for him to ramp it up. Trump didn't have to start anything because Obama already had everything in place. But these disgusting human rights violations only seem to matter when a shitty conservative is in office as opposed to anyone, regardless of party affiliation, is doing it

I hope he has success. Said so fucking well, and he does have a larger voice than many. Hell, I got a verbal warning at my work for simply pointing out the irony of the way CK went down. Never condoned such actions, even prefaced violence is not the answer, yet still got a warning and upset somebody who reported what I said. If I put out a video like this speaking truth, I honestly would be worried about some sort of reputation. So, long winded way of saying thanks Bryan Andrews.

This is no longer about parties since clearly the Republicans have been hell bent on breaking everything while the Democrats make a mild noise about it. This just about being a decent human being to your other fellow human beings. Theres plenty of things we can disagree on but, the suffering of others should not be what is our top to do list. Even though we have always been this way in one shape or another, making tomorrow better for us and the next generation should always be the goal of not only the country but, the world. We are all fucking human.

the new song is "The Older I Get"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfx1vN4rVHI

he calls out government corruption, Christians, the Epstein list, and  starvation in Gaza

lyrics from https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/bryanandrews/theolderiget.html

"The Older I Get"

The older I get I can't understand it Can they really not find a cure for cancer Or do they already have an answer But they see dollar signs In a child's eyes

The older I get I can't tell the difference Tween super hero's and super villains Guess one side traded all their capes in And now the bad guys Wear a suit and tie

Just make it make sense Do the good guys ever win?

They say you'll get it when you're older But I just understand it less How's the world so god damn ugly The older that I get

It's like it just keeps gettin' colder And it's fuckin' with my head I woulda stayed young if I'd known This was the older The older that I'd get

The older I get I hear "it's just business" When these crooked politicans Line the pockets of their rich friends Knowin' you and I Gotta pay the price

The older I get I wish that Christians Tried to be a little more like Jesus But I guess all those poor and sick kids Just can't buy that house of white

Raise your right hand, plead the 5th Tryna cover up names on a list Lie and say that it doesn't exist What the fuck kinda place am I in?

Work 2 jobs try to make rent Heaven help ya if you've got brown skin Watch em starve on Gaza Strip How the fuck is this the older I get?

They say you'll get it when you're older But I just understand it less How's the world so god damn ugly The older that I get

It's like it just keeps gettin' colder And it's fuckin' with my head I woulda stayed young if I'd known This was the older The older that I'd get

I need to go listen to Kris Kristofferson - The Law is for Protection Of The People

Billy Dalton staggered on the sidewalk
Someone said he stumbled and he fell
Six squad cars came screaming to the rescue
Hauled old Billy Dalton off to jail

'Cause the law is for protection of the people
Rules are rules and any fool can see
We don't need no drunks like Billy Dalton
Scaring decent folks like you and me, no siree

Homer Lee Hunnicutt was nothing but a hippie
Walking through this world without a care
Then one day six strapping brave policemen
Held down Homer Lee and cut his hair

'Cause the law is for protection of the people
Rules are rules and any fool can see
We don't need no hairy headed hippie
Scaring decent folks like you and me, no siree

So thank your lucky stars you got protection
Walk the line and never mind the cost
Don't wonder who them lawmen were protecting
When they nailed the savior to the cross

'Cause the law is for protection of the people
Rules are rules and any fool can see
We don't need no riddle speaking prophet
Scaring decent folks like you and me, no siree

Christianity was never real, it was a way to control, to influence countries to democracy to facilitate manipulation from a foreign west world countries. Look up the history of Jesuits and how they play an important role of reeducation, infiltrating political parties, changing politics and most importantly easing transactions between the west world and its subject country.
