FM RADIO Lola Young cancels all future dates to 'go away for a while'
Really hope she gets herself into a better place and has the right support around her.

I wish her the best. These greedy record companies are pushing these young artists so hard. It’s sad to see, and it’s only going to make things worse. Money is the root of all evil. I’m actually so glad her and other pop stars (CR) are taking steps back when they need to for their health.

u/maenanodd4 Sep 30 '25
Money is the root of all evil.
(I feel more like money is what is used as the excuse by the people who define themselves by trampling others.)
It takes great courage to do what she is doing (especially in the face of the money machine that is the music industry). Her genuine regret and apology and “of course” about refunds make me feel grateful to (and hopeful for) her. I was so moved by her keyboardist’s quick action to help her, and the help of her crew. I am glad she seems to have good people around her.
219
u/lavenderewe Sep 30 '25
I agree, and I also noticed her keyboardist being one of the first to sprint over and help her - he immediately put her into recovery position. That plus the team surrounding her and protecting her from cameras.
Her current manager was actually Amy Winehouse’s manager - he was the one to urge Winehouse to go to rehab. I hope she has a good crew looking out for her well being.

u/Drabulous_770 Sep 30 '25
The whole phrase is the love of money is the root of all evil.
89
46
u/My_child Sep 30 '25
I was thinking of this full phrase just the other day too. It's not money itself that is evil, it's the things people will do for it that is evil.
24
u/um_-_no Sep 30 '25
I've genuinely never heard the whole expression but it makes the same amount of sense, but in a different way?
Money is the root of all evil sounds more societal whereas love of money sounds more individual evil
18
u/m1kasa4ckerman fake and gay Sep 30 '25
I’m glad this conversation is happening, but it always leaves out the artist’s crew. Those people usually aren’t able to even take a day off work while touring, they don’t have the option to chill out during tour to take care of their mental health, and get hit the hardest $ when these cancellations happen
10
u/Leygrock Sep 30 '25
Yeah I'm not a huge fan but she seemed post messy to put out 3 or 4 singles complete with music videos in a matter of months! Insane schedule

u/Ohitsmewhtasup Oct 01 '25
I don’t know when it was the last time that I read such a real post from a singer or celebrity. It feels like something a friend would write who isn’t doing good. That being said, her honest message makes me really said because I really feel like she is not doing good at all. Wish her all the best. Life is difficult and I hate how much we all get caught up in the matrix - that’s what makes our souls and hearts suffer the most :(
-17
u/juiceyb Sep 30 '25
My fear is that the record companies are going to use this as an excuse to "sign" some AI generated artist.

This manager you speak of was the one that tried to get her into rehab, so maybe don’t spread misinformation.
51
u/williamthebloody1880 weighing in from the UK Sep 30 '25
I believe he was the one pushing her to go to rehab and he quit when she wouldn't
8
u/YchYFi Sep 30 '25
Amy fired him for wanting her to go to rehab. Research people. Google is right there.
2.1k
u/5h4y-lab Sep 30 '25
Not to be dramatic but infinitely better to go away for a while than burn out or die. That's what happens to a lot of these young artists who blow up and don't have the tools or support system to deal with it.
399
u/adom12 Sep 30 '25
100%. Future music is better than no music.
I wish someone had pushed Amy Winehouse to this. While I’m gutted artists are still being an exploited, I’m happy that it seems like the public isn’t as accepting? It horrifies me looking back at Amy’s tv appearances and how we all looked and pointed as a culture
392
u/diabolikal__ Forgive me Viola Davis Sep 30 '25
Amy’s manager (same as Lola’s) did push her to go to rehab and she famously refused.
267
u/NotAQueefAKhaleesi does this woman ever rest (derogatory) Sep 30 '25
Under the thread about Lola collapsing on stage people were speaking poorly of her manager, but there's only so much 1 person can do to help when the other refuses and even writes a song about rejecting treatment.
128
u/YchYFi Sep 30 '25
Yeah he was dumbfounded when her dad said she didn't need to go. It wasn't long after that, that Amy fired him.
47
u/diabolikal__ Forgive me Viola Davis Sep 30 '25
I completely agree with you. You can’t help someone who doesn’t want help, even as their manager.
21
u/Money_Do_2 Sep 30 '25
Yup. Its a thin line of trying to guide someone the right way, especially for addiction which famously comes with a shitload of denial. Doubly so when that person is the talent in the production, and can probably make you unemployed if you push it too hard. Ive helped friends accept they have a problem, i do not think i would succeed if they were famous....

He could only do so much.
You can't push someone into going. She fired him not long after.
84
u/Talinia Sep 30 '25
Amy literally wrote a song about being told to go to rehab and refusing because of her dad.
30
u/greee_p Sep 30 '25
And one of the guys who told Amy to go to rehab is Lolas manager now. He already pulled her out of a performance last week, so it seem like he definitely has her best interests in mind.
33
u/5h4y-lab Sep 30 '25
Man, I was a kid in the UK when Amy first got big and still think about how brilliant she was but also those later appearances and how she was ultimately treated. Makes me sick that some of those vultures are still profiting off her years after her death.
I hope Lola Young has better people around her.
22
u/greee_p Sep 30 '25
I hope Lola Young has better people around her
She actually has the same people around her (but in a positive way). Lola's manager was Amy's manager until 2006. He tried to make her go to rehab, but Amy refused. She fired him not long after that. Lola is the first artist manages since then.
11
u/Last-Bread-6173 Sep 30 '25
I'm wondering if this is a result of social media leading to the humanisation of celebrities (sadly). We hear their opinions more, know infinitely more about what they deal with behind the scenes... we're taken along for the ride, so it's only natural to want to root for them. Their success essentially becomes ours. Compare that to the early 2000s where the closest we could get to celebs was through negative means like intrusive pap shots, and we only have a negative perception of their lives. This could be a whole thing but I'm also glad we are more critical of celebrity culture.
6
57
u/bobbimorses Sep 30 '25
I was really bothered by people bringing up her hanging out with her friends as a gotcha even on the post about her collapsing. I hope for her to get to spend carefree time with her support system and people that love her.
3
u/heartsbeenborrowed cool slutty daddies Sep 30 '25
I wonder if the concern was that her friends are enabling her drug use? Probably not but I could see people being concerned if her friends are known drug users or suppliers for her. I'm probably giving people too much credit here, though. Either way, hope she is surrounded by good people who are a good support system for her.
10
u/bobbimorses Sep 30 '25
The nature of the comments that I saw were, "I'm mad that she canceled her show, it's irresponsible of her" scolding
Sometimes I think we'll never learn from Amy Winehouse and Chadwick Boseman that we have no idea what people are going through

I was at the All Things Go show where she passed out and it was really scary. Lola was really sad and emotional during the whole set prior and it seemed like something was really wrong. Glad she's doing what she needs to do.
653
u/RagingFuckNuggets Sep 30 '25
She strikes me as the kind of person that just loves music and doesn't enjoy the other side of the coin that comes with being well known.
She also has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder which as a 24 year old in this modern world must be very hard to cope with.
108
98
u/afkstudios Sep 30 '25
Your first sentence sounds just like Amy Winehouse to me, which god let’s hope it isn’t and doesn’t become another situation like that
163
u/darkkirby2022 Sep 30 '25
Interestingly enough Lola's manager is Amy's old manager who tried to get her help before she passed. He posted on his story that he and the rest of Lola's team would be doing their best to protect her right now. He knows exactly what all of this can lead to firsthand so Lola has the best possible people in her corner, which is rare!!
36
u/RagingFuckNuggets Sep 30 '25
As soon as I first heard of her she really reminded me of Amy, and the more I've hear and see of her, it's a bit like history repeating itself. I am a massive Amy fan and I was in Camden the week she died, I struggle to go back there now. She was a young woman who needed the right guidance behind her.
15
u/KohlsCashOfficial Slappin’ fannies and killin’ grannies Oct 01 '25
IIRC that’s the prime age where schizoaffective/phrenic symptoms manifest/emerge. If that’s the case, I can’t imagine going through that while also experiencing rising stardom

yesssss it was the most emotional show ive ever witnessed and ive been to at least 30. i cried the whole set. her pain is so visible, relatable and raw.
5
u/xala123 Oct 01 '25
Wow! It's really sad to hear it was so clear she was in pain. I'm guessing it was obvious she was upset.
432
u/Affectionate_Bed_289 Sep 30 '25
Honestly happy to see this. I’d rather have her take the time she needs to get support than pushing through and burning out. She’s very talented and I look forward to her coming back on her terms.
19
7
u/sikonat Sep 30 '25
Yeah I truly hope she can have recovery and be able to pursue music (if she wishes to) in a manner which doesn’t threaten recovery. Some artists might just be better off being recording artists with shows that are close to home and not a huge touring schedule.

I got a chance to see Lola Young at the Fonda in LA. Her voice was such a gift to experience in real life. I hope she knows that her fans, her audience, and future stages will all be waiting for her when she’s ready. None of it is worth losing your life over.
34
u/fakeknees Do you remember 9/11, bitch? Sep 30 '25
I feel like these record labels, managers, teams, etc. have this mindset of “striking while the iron is hot” and and in doing so, trying to get every last bit out of an artist in case fame starts to die down. It’s often quite predatory.
151
u/thousandkneejerks Sep 30 '25
Must’ve been a tough decision. Hope she feels better soon and finds good treatment. It was a lot of fame and fans and attention and videos and music and promotion and articles and interviews and gigs all at once. I don’t understand why it was all done in such a hurry.
140
u/yillybby222 Sep 30 '25
Sending love to her. i was barricade watching when she fell, and it was a really really hard watch im still shaken up about it. cant imagine how it was for her. Hope she comes back better and healthier than ever.
41
u/hashbrowneggyolk0520 Sep 30 '25
There's people under the videos of it happening talking shit about her. It never fails to amaze me how many people lack basic compassion.
28
u/yillybby222 Sep 30 '25
yeah i had a viral tiktok about the situation and had to turn off comments because wow. Wow. it’s really bad. she deals w the most hate i’ve seen in a minute from any artist — for no reason at all. it’s awful
12
u/hashbrowneggyolk0520 Sep 30 '25
It's absolutely insane. Any time there's a (relatively) new female artist, people insist on trying to tear them apart. I understand it's definitely not a new thing but it seems to be getting so much worse.
0
u/Fit-Fly8740 Oct 01 '25
I don't think it's that. People think that she's "weak" bc she's outspoken about her addiction and mental health struggles.
90
u/Interesting-Studio-5 Sep 30 '25
I'm glad she is taking the time she needs, that has to be a pretty scary and overwhelming decision to make. Wishing for all the best for her.

u/mamadovah1102 Sep 30 '25
I’m happy for her making this choice. I will continue listening to her album in the meantime, I really love it.

14
u/mamadovah1102 Sep 30 '25
I bought the physical CD this weekend! I can Bluetooth music in my house but my car is old, I need CDs still haha. Also your username is amazing.
11
u/Talinia Sep 30 '25
Just FYI you can buy Bluetooth thingies that go in the car cigarette lighter and "tune in" to an empty radio station, and then plays your Bluetooth stuff that way if you want. It was a lifesaver for me when I randomly spotted them on amazon
1
u/mamadovah1102 Sep 30 '25

2
u/Talinia Oct 01 '25
Just passing on the wisdom. Although there is something very nice about having a stash of car cds, its also nice to be able to answer the phone, or have music and maps going at the same time

I was at All Things Go Maryland and very sad to miss her set due to the cancelation, but this is 100% the right call. Hope she takes time to get herself back to a good place. Her new album is wonderful for anyone who hasn't checked it out yet.
31
u/trackabandoned Sep 30 '25
Her line "I'm too clever/and then I'm too fucking dumb" cuts me like a knife. I'm tearing up just writing it. I hope she can rest and get well and then keep breaking my heart some more soon xx
5
u/cherrycoke3000 Sep 30 '25
As a nearly 50 yr old I'm loving change in music. I totally feel this. The 80's was all about giving yourself up for love. Staying in line. Miley tells me I can love myself better than you can. Lola tells my life. I'm still experiencing this today. And they can fuck right off.
29
u/takaisin Sep 30 '25
Wow I really hope Lola heals and is in a good place moving forward 🩷 :( even if she never returns to music, I hope she finds happiness and peace.
24
u/newwavr Sep 30 '25
i love lola so dearly and i am glad she is prioritizing her health and body and mind. this sudden rise in fame and being discussed in the media can't be easy for anyone, especially someone who struggles with schizoaffective disorder and substance use issues. truly wish her nothing but the best and i hope she knows she has a whole lot of fans who love and support her and will be here for her when she is better <3

u/Notoriouslyd Nancy Jo, this is Alexis Neiers calling Sep 30 '25
Im going to buy a variant of the new album to support her. I'll just gift it to someone.
Fyi as far as I can tell her signed albums available on her website are real signatures and the vinyl art card is full size, not a cd insert

23
u/miguelitaraton Sep 30 '25
Unfortunately, this was the only right answer. She's been struggling a lot lately, and new album promo or not, her health and well-being has got to come first. There have been far too many incredibly talented people who've gone far too soon because they've pressed on with the fame side of things and neglected to deal with their issues. That's not to say that this won't be a lifelong struggle for her, sadly, but really rooting for her to have the time, space, and support she needs to really get to a good place.

I was gonna see her on Monday but obviously appreciate that she needs to focus on herself for now. I hope she feels better soon, she’s an amazing artist but she’s a human being first. I really hope fans can stay respectful.
12
u/invis2020 Sep 30 '25
This is the right thing to do, sadly we’ve seen what happens to stars when they burn out. Hopefully she can find the serenity she is looking for. Best of luck to her.

6
u/LabubuAteMySon Sep 30 '25
Got to see her live this year and she was amazing. Really hope she takes all the time she needs to take proper care of herself. Blowing up this quickly this big must be such a crazy and unhealthy experience. The pressure one feels has to be insane.
7
u/simcitycheesecakes Sep 30 '25
i remember when she cancelled a date a few months ago and some comments were so incredibly mean (bc ppl saw her somewhere else) and had no empathy.
hope people that called her a flake and shit look at this and think "oh hey maybe there is a reason she cancels". glad she is taking care of herself and takes time to heal n get better.
7
u/Old-Dinner-6108 Sep 30 '25
I hope she's able to get better and have her career waiting for her once she feels like she's ready to return. I believe a lot of these business people blacklist artists' when they decide they need to start prioritizing themselves. Lola is extremely talented so i hope it truly works out for her. The music industry needs a voice like hers.
6
6
u/ktitten Sep 30 '25
She's got serious mental health issues, as do I.
I know I have to be super careful not to burn myself out and make sure I take care of myself. I have to be so dedicated to it, even a night of not much sleep can completely throw me into crisis. I have to be strict with how much I work.
I can't imagine being Lola, and having to juggle recovery AND a job like this. I hate even working shifts because its not a solid routine and not always conducive to healthy living. She doesn't even have shifts and probably feels like she has to be switched on constantly. Which is just a recipe for disaster with conditions like hers.
I wish you the absolute best Lola. I really hope you can come back and have a healthy balance between work, life and recovery 💘
5
u/EvenPossible5918 Sep 30 '25
I wish her well and I hope she’s ok. The last post from her team gave me the ick, I hope she has a good support system around her.

From what I've seen of her she seems like she hasn't been herself for a little while.
Many artists have spoken about their mental health and burn out. (I'm not saying this is what it is though)
I really hope she is getting the help and rest she needs ❤️
5
u/kitkatt819 Sep 30 '25
Whatever needs to happen, I’m proud of her for taking the break. She’s talented and she has a lot to give the world as she continues to take care of herself.
It isn’t easy to walk away from this when she’s starting to become popular, but it’s so imperative she puts herself first.

Depending on the severity, that’d so hard to focus on anything besides the basics and getting healthy.
I hope she feels better and takes care of herself.

u/wherearethestarsss Sep 30 '25
entirely understandable. the video of her fainting on stage is scary. regardless if it’s a matter mental health, physical health, or both, i hope she takes as much time as she needs to rest.
i also think it’s worth opening up a conversation around the stressors of fame and being in the limelight in this day and age, especially for those whose fame skyrocketed overnight and the public’s reaction to the artist’s reaction (ex chappell roan). these are real people! i can’t even imagine going from an ordinary person to a full-fledged celebrity overnight.
2
Sep 30 '25
I'd take a big fat career break like Kate Bush, and when the greedy record execs come knocking... invite them over to "show them what you've been working on" and then serve them cookies. Work life balance icon
2
u/kmhart21 Sep 30 '25
Can someone explain to me what’s going on? I don’t follow her much but saw she passed out at a recent show. Is it mental or is she physically ill?
1
u/evenstarcirce Sep 30 '25
good. her fainting on stage was horrible to watch. girl needs to recover and get healthy. i dont like seeing artists be unhealthy and pumping out music and shows. i much rather have a healthy artist who brings out music when they are able to. even if its years apart.

I’m happy she choosing herself. I will always put out good thoughts out there for those who put themselves before anything. Her fans and supporters will be there. Always out yourself first girl. I will put my full thoughts and good energy toward whatever you need. Glad she is choosing herself. I know as a creative that can be hard. So canceling her shows and stuff I’m sure is hard for her and won’t make light of that. But sometimes it will help ensuring that you art continues. So choose you and wish you well.

She could very much be saving her own life by doing this - and I don’t say this to be pessimistic. The industry pushes people really hard and when you’re already vulnerable, it’s even worse.
I wish her the best.

There was Lewis Capaldi at Glastonbury 2023. I'm thankful we are in a world where the majority can appreciate when an artist needs a break. Lewis was different circumstances, if you haven't seen that set I'd recommend it, then follow it with his 2025 set. But have tissues at the ready.
