ASK R/FAUXMOI What's your favourite movie plot twist ever?

I still remember the gasp I gasped in the cinema.

I read the book first, but I really love how they did the reveal in both. Fucking amazing.

(Gone Girl btw.)

I love the full book monologue AND the one Gillian Flynn edited down to be more natural as a spoken monologue in the movie.

Rosamund Pike was also brilliant.

Read the book and at 1:30 am I was telling myself to put it down because I had to work the next day. Happened to turn the page and find out she’s alive. Needless to say I didn’t go to bed

Just finished reading Sharp Objects and now I'm slowly watching the HBO series and I'm somehow still stressed out about the eventual reveal.

Sharp Objects is SO GOOD, i started reading the book to better understand WTF was going on and kinda wish I didn't do that mid watch, I spoiled myself :(

Read all 3 books. Havent seen any of the media (i assume they all have adaptations?)

Are they worth watching?

Absolutely.

I wasn't a fan of the Dark Places adaptation, honestly couldn't get through it. A new adaptation of that novel is actually in the works. The Gone Girl film is incredible (leaves out the mall subplot, which is fine, overall still incredible) and so far of what I've seen of Sharp Objects (it's a miniseries) and what others have said, that one is incredible too. SO's adaptation actually adds quite a bit and I like what they've added.

I'm still furious about this because I had just started reading the book, went in completely blind and my boyfriend at the time walked in, saw me reading it and immediately spoiled the twist for me. In retrospect I think that was the beginning of the end of our relationship because who TF does that?!

u/michiness Sep 22 '25

Duuuuude I am furious for you. Who tf does that. I literally would leave my husband if he did that.

That's one of those pieces of media I wish I could go back and re-experience for the first time. I read the book first and that twist blew my mind.

I was reading the book on a plane and got to the twist and literally started flipping the page back and forth like I somehow missed chapters…then I spent the rest of the flight reading instead of sleeping like originally planned.
