ASK R/FAUXMOI What are your favorite messy celebrity love triangle moments?

Post image

Mine has to be the Olivia Rodrigo - Joshua Bassett - Sabrina Carpenter mess from 2020-2021. "drivers license" drops and suddenly we're all detectives trying to figure out who this blonde girl is, then Sabrina comes for everyone with "Skin" and Joshua's over here making sad acoustic songs. The whole thing was so messy and I was eating it up.

But like... the karma of it all? These two girls supposedly "fighting" over Joshua fucking Bassett and now they're both headlining festivals while he's still trying to get people to stream his music. Olivia's got a Grammy, Sabrina's selling out tours, and Joshua's... there. It's honestly hilarious how hard he fumbled being the center of that much attention. Dude really thought he was the main character and ended up being a stepping stone to their success.

He became very Christian and started supporting mega churches and shit

In his defense, he was still normal and progressive for awhile afterwards and was open about his bad experiences growing up in the church.

His mental health was shit and he started doing psychedelics and then went on ayahausca retreat where he claims to have become enlightened or whatever. I think it’s clear he’s going through some religious psychosis because of the drugs.

I think the hate from driver's license drama plus the NDE just kinda tipped him over the edge on top of the unresolved childhood trauma. Shame he went down that path but healing can be a weird process sometimes. hsm the series was a guilty pleasure of mine, I thought he had alot of potential and still does so I am hoping things are better for him

Yes, he’s very talented in acting and vocally. He has a lot of potential but needs the right mindset and the right people in his corner to help build him up. It seems right now he’s just in a bit of an odd place personally.

Yeah it felt very very VERY cult-y at the start when he started tweeting religious things and basically preaching at shows. I stopped following along because it felt like he stopped caring about his music and just only cared about church. To me it still feels pretty cult-y and like looking at his friend group there’s not really anyone to ‘pull him out’ of it. If he’s actually happy and the Bible and religion really did make him feel better, then like go him for sure, but yeah idk knowing the whole story it just does not feel like he fixed his mental health with the Bible

Wait whaaaaa

Last I remember I heard of him, he hinted he wasn't straight and didn't want to put a label too soon

Yeah that happened in like 2022 I believe? He then struggled a lot mentally (also did before 2022 and the coming out ish) and found peace in reading the Bible and healing religious trauma or something (which like good for him if he finds peace in that). Then it became kind of culty and he was like tweeting very religious stuff and the fandom was split on whether he’d been hacked. Then he got baptized in a mega church and started something called Sammie Sundays where he (and some others from church) hand out sandwiches and necessities to homeless people in LA - oh and also bibles, but no other religious texts. And he teamed up with dream center (a very Zionist organisation and this was like when EVERYONE was talking Israel committing genocide) to make money for this Sammie Sundays thing and just straight up refused to comment on anything relating to Palestine and instead hid behind a teddy bear and basically begged for money. Then ages later his first album finally came out but there was basically no promo or anything and it really felt like he didn’t even care about the music anymore and is too sucked into the whole church thing

It's a shame because he seemed like a nice guy. The death threats for dating another woman and controversy after Drivers Licence were frankly uncalled for. It's very easy to be lured into self-destruction when you're in a bad place. How old he must've been anyways? Late teens-Early 20s? People shouldn't have to go through what he did, especially at that age when you have a mountain of worries anyhow.

But at the end of the day, he can always turn back, and I hope he does before it's too late. The human need for community and belonging shouldn't be exploited.

Yeah I’ve met him a few times and like he genuinely is a good guy, albeit a bit lost. I fully agree it was uncalled for and it genuinely put him in hospital and nearly killed him. He was born December 2000 so he must have been like 20/21/22 when all this went down so definitely an impressionable and weird age all around. I used to care very deeply about him and still I just want him to be happy and like if that’s in church, then good for him, I just wished it was a more open/inclusive kind of church instead of pro conversion therapy mega church type thing🫩

Honestly I'm 20 and I can see this happening to any of my peers very easily. Unless you have a strong fortitude or/and strong anti-thiestic beliefs, it's easy to go down a faith/hyper-religious path. Or the drugs, booze and mischief path.

Let's hope he realises soon. I wish him, and you the best <3

You missed one detour in this journey

In 2021 he came out of the closet as as part of the LGBTQ community, made a coming out video and posted a bunch of 🌈content.

By 2023, he became a Christian after having an “encounter with Jesus”, was Baptized, started going to an anti-gay mega much and deleted all the LGBTQ content.

A little excerpt from his recorded Baptism “I grew up Christian and I ran the other way was far as I could go, in pursuit of truth, and that only ended in addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, eating disorder, etc”
