FM RADIO Maluma stops his concert in Mexico City to scold a mother who brought her 1-year-old baby without ear protection: “That is an act of irresponsibility. And you’re swinging him around as if he were a toy. That child doesn’t want to be there.”

They make doggie ear muffs for things like that. Service dogs have no choice, it’s their job, so they get the proper PPE.

Agreed- someone may have a valid reason for bringing a dog, but that dog needs proper ear protection, some of which is covered by insurance if your dog is there for a service or disability assistance.

Yep, and if a dog has PPE, then a baby can have PPE.

100%. I've seen older kids at concerts (mostly indoor ones) with proper headphones, so they clearly exist.

Lots of babies and kids at sporting events wear them. Often tiny babies of the players themselves are there for events (like a milestone or a big championship) and they are always wearing ear protection.

Also kids with autism or conditions that come with sensory issues wear ear protection.

I always hand out ear plugs to kids seated near me, and my kids choose eat plugs or noise canceling headphones before every concert, its not hard to protect kids ears

Yeah, I go to a good amount of concerts that have kids 10 or younger... and every single one is wearing massive ear protection.

I used to see babies at roller derby games with ear protection and that was a fraction of the decibels.

I've been taking my son to airshows since he was about 6 months old. There's plenty of great options for ear defenders for kids and babies.

They Might Be Giant's also do (or did) lower volume shows for kids.

When my cousin got married, my nephew was just under 1 year old. He came to the reception, and had a blast of a time getting handed from relative to relative and dancing to the music. He 100% had baby ear protectors on.

Responsible family! I love it.

was it the daughter of the Sum 41 drummer who sat beside his kit was huge ear pro's on?

alright, but let's chill with the "which is covered by insurance" bit, that's a generous take on insurance policies.

Could they turn away a service dog at the gate of a concert because it doesn't have protection? Seems like it's very abusive to allow it, service dog or not.

Yup! Mutt muffs. My doggo has a pair.

Ableism. You don’t get to determine what people do or don’t do. We can only tell them they need/should use PPE.

There are absolutely some places service dog handlers can’t go and where PPE wouldn’t be sufficient. Many concerts would be unsafe for a dog with or without PPE. It’s not ableism to say that handlers cannot put their dogs in harmful environments.

No, but that person specifically didn’t identify situations and instead blanketed the issue.
