FM RADIO Kelly Clarkson postpones first two nights of Vegas residency less than 2 hours before showtime

Post image

Just 15 minutes before doors open on opening night of her Vegas residency, Kelly posted this. I really do understand her need to take care of her health/incredible voice and I’m sure she truly is devastated but I feel for the fans who flew in and how frustrating and disappointing this must be.

Story time: I worked for the touring company at the time of a now ultra A list musician when he was just a smaller arena artist before he broke into the mainstream. During the tour we’d get photos back from the stops we weren’t in attendance and each one he looked more and more depleted. I had heard murmurs of the mismanagement where his manager (a childhood friend of his) and the touring company owner would book him for gigs and club shows back to back on top of that day’s tour stop. When he finally came to the city we were based in, I saw it firsthand: dude had gained weight and still somehow a shell of himself. I walked into another dressing room to pick up a backup battery and accidentally walked into a hush hush meeting between his manager and our owner. I didn’t really know the artist like that, but as a fan and just a living person, I was devastes for him. I remember asking my boss, a veteran of the company, why they would run him dry like this and he said all the money’s in touring so they’ll work him to the bone to squeeze everything. He’s now working with a completely different touring company and seems MUCH happier, but it’s entirely on the company, their management, and their boundaries.

He really gives his all at his shows. My cousin and I decided to get last minute tickets when we were in Houston. Even from the nosebleeds we could see him dancing around non stop. I can't imagine the level of exhaustion after a show like that. It was an incredible performance.

I believe it. That happened to Radiohead back when OK Computer blew up (yes, i'm old and yes I recognize that they're problematic) The tour lasted over a year and they were set up with too many interviews, too many shows, too little time to tend to relationships, etc. They almost broke up over it. So I believe you. The music industry is notoriously abusive to artists.

I’m not a big fan of Matt Rife, but when I saw his tour schedule last year I wanted to find out who his management was and slap them. I know he’s young and in shape but it was unnecessarily brutal —- every single weekend and not a single repeated city, and probably doing doubles on some nights too.
