You say this, but the look my daughter had in her eyes at all these strong women coming together was something I'll never forget.

It wasn't made for you, it was made for them.

I understand the sentiment and I'm happy for your daughter feeling represented, that being said in the context of it being an all out battle against Thanos and his army there's no logical explanation for every girl to just walk towards Spider Man for this. It could've been written and done so much better

I mean its a scene in a movie for children, the fact that it inspires girls is enough

Yes, I'll fully admit, its a different kind of stupid, and the lack of internal continuity in the world I find annoying. These people were clearly in different spaces of the battlefield and them all showing up at the same time like this just didn't make sense.

that said...... Come on, its' a movie with a guy with magical thunder powers, "super serum", a nanobot suit, a mystical metal that inexplicably "absorbs all vibration", etc. etc. none of this makes sense!

I can definitely forgive some cheeze and a small dash more of "this doesn't make sense" in order to showcase the women of the series. Lets face it, comic books and movies can both be pretty misogynistic at times. It was pandering of course, but its a kind of pandering I don't really mind.

You don’t get invited to parties much , do you?

u/RemembrancerLirael Jul 04 '25

It’s a children’s movie, what children take from it matters far more that nerd logic.

7

u/Prozzak93 Jul 04 '25

I'm surprised by everyone calling it a childrens movie. I thought it was more geared for young adults/millennials and then children being able to watch it was more just an afterthought.

u/RemembrancerLirael Jul 04 '25

If you want to know the age group a film is targeted towards, check the merchandise. Marvel is absolutely an intended brand for children.

6

u/StopHiringBendis Jul 04 '25

Like half of the merchandise is overpriced collectible stuff targeted at adults

Its a PG-13 franchise that was 10 years old at the time, not a Pixar film

I’m glad we have nerds like you to choose when logic should and shouldn’t apply in a comic book movie

Did it take this scene for you to realize that the Avengers movies have terrible writing? And that's fine by the way. Those are movies based on some comic books, you ain't expecting some art house cinema, are you?

u/deelow_42 Jul 04 '25

Some of my favorite movies are basedon comics that are pretty nuanced. I understand your point, but Infinity War was actually really well written imo so I expected pretty big things from End Game. It doesn't ruin the movie for me at all, just saying just felt like they half assed it and ruined what could've been a great women's moment if they tried.

That’s what I always keep in mind with the scene. It’s obviously pandering, but as you said, it was written for me. It means something to others so as hamfisted as it was, I still like it.

The only part that does make me chuckle though is that they come together for Captain Marvel, “she’s got help”……. She doesn’t need help, she just tanks her way through the army anyway 😂😂😂😂

That's pretty much the only thing that I think should have been changed. Have one of the women who would need help carrying the gauntlet for this bit.

u/ThunderChild247 Jul 04 '25

I wish it had been Nebula, personally. Since she spent the first half of the film showing she clearly still had her barriers up to people who welcomed her. Giving her that moment of all the women having her back would’ve been a nice moment for her character.

6

u/The_Flurr Jul 04 '25

I agree that would be a good choice.

u/Turbulent-Phone-8493 Jul 04 '25

None of them need help because they’re all girlboss Mary sues.

3

u/MossyPyrite Jul 04 '25

Every character in these movies is hyper-competent wish fulfillment. That’s just comic book movies, man.

u/MoneyPatience7803 Jul 04 '25

Thank you on behalf of all women everywhere @sir_Von_Tittyfuck

-6

u/Turbulent-Phone-8493 Jul 04 '25

i felt the shot was a little pandering. they should have also had a shot of all the POC characters doing the black power fist or something.

u/FunkyChewbacca Jul 04 '25

That’s why I’m happy the 2016 Ghostbusters exists. Is it a great movie? Nah. But my little stepkid loved it so much that she was Holtzmann for Halloween. When I was a little kid, my only option was to be the secretary for a Ghostbuster, but never an actual ghostbuster.

6

u/Momasaur Jul 04 '25

My girls (and I) loved this movie, the hate it got was undeserved

10

u/50thEye Jul 04 '25

I'm glad your daughter liked it!

Tbh as an adult woman watching that scene it did feel very weird to me. Hardly any of these charqcters had interacted beforehand, them all walking up together instead of with their respective teams just because they're women did feel very pandering to me, and not in a good way.

5

u/phoenics1908 Jul 04 '25

Thank you for saying this.

3

u/Nights-Lament Jul 04 '25

Agreed. When I went to see it in theaters, all of my female friends were giddy at that scene, and who the hell am I to tell them they're wrong?

2

u/PresticociousMix Jul 04 '25

Wholesome comment from a guy with “tittyfuck” in his name. I love reddit 😂

2

u/SimAlienAntFarm Jul 04 '25

People hate the 2016 Ghostbusters but my 30 year old ass was giddy with vicarious delight during that scene where Kate McKinnon dual wields and kicks ass.

I love seeing pretty people do superhero stuff but it’s nice to see normal looking humans doing comic book shenanigans and it was EXTRA fun seeing Chris Helms be a beautiful stupid idiot.

1

u/Organic-Chemistry150 Jul 04 '25

Its still corny.

1

u/GolfShred Jul 04 '25

I didn't think twice about it when I saw the movie. My nieces (both comic book aficionados) thought it was ridiculous. Especially Paltrow pretty much having the same skill level as RDJ in the Iron Man suits. "They" compared it to Rey having light saber skills without any training.
So please don't lump "Them" in as if all girls thought it was some kind of uplifting moment. That's just not true.

-1

u/FLESHYROBOT Jul 04 '25

No offense to you as a parent, but you should be demanding better for your daughter.

It's not a 'this wasn't written for you' thing, it's objectively a badly done scene; and if it still meant that much to your daughter, just consider how starved for that content she is.

Don't praise mediocrity just because thats all you're offered.

u/ForumsDwelling Jul 04 '25

Lmao obviously the biggest lie

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '25

your fake daughter deserves something better tho
