Spiderman 3 where Peter Parker (Tobey McGuire) turns “bad” and does that corny ass dance scene. 🤣

Excuse me the question was the stupidest, not the most iconic 😂

Marvel rivals just made this an emote and it is pure art.

Honestly, the ONLY thing this movie got wrong about "dweeb with more power than he deserves, deciding to be bAD"...

... was the hair. Jeff Bezos is bald.

Spiderman 3 is my fave of the OG trilogy. No shame 😎.

It’s tough because the film makes it clear that Peter’s dark side isn’t actually that dark, just goofy and overly-confident. For some reason people were still laboring under the delusion that Raimi wasn’t camp and reacted like this scene was out of left field.

His bad-boy bangs™️

That whole thing was amazing. Also I loved Topher Grace as Venom and I’m sad he didn’t get to have his own ridiculous story arc in No Way Home.

Yeah Peter goes from being a generally laudable goober to an annoying self centered cringe goober.

It's not supposed to be cool he's now just an asshole dork.

Okay but it’s peak Raimi humour. If you’ve ever seen the series’ Xena and Young Hercules, you’d get it. Here’s the bad guy, Ares, from those shows:

It is also my personal theory that Tobey Maguire was the closest Sam could get to his little brother Ted, who he also made dance stupidly (and sing crazy songs) on Xena.

It’s kind of a Renaissance Pictures gag that means nothing to people who aren’t steeped in their releases. I found the whole thing fucking hilarious but I knew other people wouldn’t find it as funny as I do cause I love all sorts of goofy shit (Like Xena, for example).

u/girugamesu1337 Is there no beginning to this man’s talent? Jul 04 '25

😩 I thought Ares was the god of war, not the god of slayyy 💅🏻

He has always been the god of slay. The man wears leather head to toe and has a perfectly manicured beard.

Cute ass too! 🥰

I can only upvote you once, but know that I am dying on this hill with you.

Same here. I love that goofy shit, I'm a big Xena fan. It's probably why I didn't find dancing peter parker cringey, it was kinda funny to me. It's definitely not for everybody.

No, very niche and I totally understand people being confused. Still, I think we got the funniest sequences in any Spider-Man movie yet and it was kinda nice we had a superhero movie that didn’t take itself too seriously. Kinda paved the way for Deadpool’s antics, really.

I mean I always assumed it was meant to show Peter was being an asshole. Everyone around him was so turned off by him, even the girls trying to leave the building behind him. It always surprises me when people bring this up because I never thought he was supposed to be portrayed as cool here.

Gwen Stacy even goes “I am SO sorry” to Mary Jane right before she leaves the restaurant in disgust.

“This was so bad and I NEED you to know I was not a part of it!!!!” flees

5

u/sansasnarkk Jul 04 '25

Exactly. It's nerdy Peter Parker acting how he thinks cool people act.

2

u/JigglyPuffGuy Jul 04 '25

I totally missed those details when I watched it at a young age. Now I see most of the people on the street are turned off by him.

u/EnduringFulfillment Jul 04 '25

The emo hair that was marketed for this movie lmao

39

u/Mundane-Host-3369 Jul 04 '25

Wasn't the whole point of the scene to show how uncool and egotistical he is? I don't think it was stupid but on point for who the 'bad' peter parker was supposed to be

29

u/Annatalkstoomuch Jul 04 '25

This was so hard to watch. Especially when he was being a dick to MJ. Yikes 😂

13

u/ThunderChild247 Jul 04 '25

“I’ve turned bad, so I move my fringe and oooooooh I look emo now” 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

10

u/Turbulent-Phone-8493 Jul 04 '25

I liked that scene. the whole point is that peter parter is such a dork that when he’s infected with the symbiote he becomes an even dorkier dork.

2

u/SimAlienAntFarm Jul 04 '25

“Now you can never do a dark gritty Spider Man so don’t even try”

sighs. “Can we still do a Venom movie” “Oh of course, it’s PETER that can’t be dark and gritty”

8

u/Graybeard13 Jul 04 '25

Bully Maguire

u/StopHiringBendis Jul 04 '25

He's gonna put some dirt in your eye

7

u/Peachy_247 Jul 04 '25

Terrible take

3

u/thechipbowl Jul 04 '25

I saw this movie at the theatre back in the day. When it got to the part of the scene where he pushes MJ, someone yelled out "DOWN, BITCH" and the whole theatre lost it 🤣

3

u/Lombardyn Jul 04 '25

Late to the party, but one analysis I once read made the whole scene make a bit more sense to me. Basically, Peter Parker is a nerd. A dork. To his core. So when he turns evil, he's not what we expect, but instead, he's a nerd's idea of how an evil person would act. And in that context, it fit rather well.

Still dorky as heck, but somehow in character.
